If that's true then spiritual death would mean that only a believer could spiritually die wouldn't it?
I would say because of the nature of sin that dwells in us from birth we are all firstborn "spiritually" dead toward God.

SpiritUAL death is not spirit death, its the nature of the death not the death of the spirit.
Yes, and here we see Jesus preached to the dead....

1 Peter 4:3-6[SUP]3 [/SUP]For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

So spiritually dead is a metaphor for being out of fellowship with God and not literally our spirit being dead. This is why I asked the question to begin with... I don't see a literal death of the spirit in the bible, hence this is why I believe there is no such thing as spiritual death.

Those who are born of God are spiritually alive and not dead, so the spiritually dead are not of God. By the way, this is my own thread. :)
My mistake...... that means I'm the one that needs to leave then.....

Yeah, I would say it is like a spiritual separation from God's Holy Spirit which is the Spirit of Truth and Life.

I believe this event, that moment, is the reference point of life, my life, and the life of all who believe. God bless all in Jesus Christ, amen

Amen, I love it! What a wonderful feeling indeed! Thanks for sharing.:)

When I sleep at night, I'm still living. Cannot those in Christ still be alive though they are in a 'sleep' state they we know not of?
Problem is this...

Luk 8:52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
Luk 8:53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
Luk 8:54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.

Now to this we add...

Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Ecc 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

And then...

Eze 37:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
Eze 37:4 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
Eze 37:5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
Eze 37:6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

(A picture of the second resurrection at the Last Great Day)

The dead are dead. Unconscious, not aware of anything until the resurrection.

hmmmmm? Got My Thinking. The Dead In Christ Are Only Sleeping? Yet God Of The Living?
Just because you are asleep does not mean you are not alive. Moses and Elijah are physically dead, yet are spiritually alive.

You know how when you are asleep for hours and hours, yet when you wake it seems like only a minute went by? That is how it is for the dead- they fall asleep (die) and before you know it it is judgement day. But God is still the God of the living- those who die in Christ will live forever, they are sealed with the Holy Spirit Who marks them for salvation. I think we get confused when we mix up physical and spiritual. When Jesus said to let the dead bury the dead, He meant let the spiritually dead bury the physically dead.

Uh, they are dead and awaiting the resurrection...

Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

1Co 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

When will they by made alive again?

1Co 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
