This emotional compromise and distortion you speak of is a common thing regardless of the persons beliefs but as for hp not properly embracing the gospel to begin with is a pretty big assumption as we cannot group together people simply because of a doctrine they hold that would imply we know their hearts and their relationship with God.
I agree with you, but I am looking for a common thread, brother.
I have shared things very close to my heart and stirring, yet across the board the
HG guys did not bat an eyelid, they simply did not understand.
A lot of their theological steps do not work for me because of my emotional background.
So it struck me that the emotional theme is probably why HG dualism appeals to them.
A dualistic theology fits a dualistic psychology. And this also means no argument
is going to change their position, because it is not founded either on the Lord or
on argument but on disposition. One aspect of this condition is shutting out emotions
so emotional appeals will mean nothing to them. A common theme in their backgrounds
will be emotional trauma and addiction, which are not resolved so repressed, off limits.
So for them spirituality is a form of peace and resolution, but movement from this will
be completely rejected and everyone saying movement or growth is a good idea are evil.
And yes this occurs elsewhere in society, but this group who continually dominate discussions
with only one string on their bow, are not helpful, to any degree.
