You all are in a state of confusion with some truths and some errors . try this scriptures to connect the dots ,Gen 2:7 Adam
was a SOUL prior to Gods breath put in him,he now became a LIVING SOUL with the breath of life. Gen 3:19 for dust thou are
and to dust you shall RETURN. ps 146:4 Eccl 12:7 1st Cor 15:45-48. this is undisputable evidence that can not be contradicted
by any other interpretation ,now try to rightly dividing the word of truth 2 Tim 2:15 God bless .......
It does not say he was a soul before the breath of life entered him, it simply says that the clay and the addition of the breath of life made him a living soul.

you did a very good job explaining on the first part but on the last part you said man is just like animals just body and the life in the body that is called the soul. you are saying man and animals are all the same yet the Bible does not support that nor does it even hint such a thing.
The Bible says when a person dies the body and the soul are dead and no more plus it also says something returns to God and when animals die nothing returns to God.
Actually it does not say that...

Ecc 3:21 Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth?

is actually an awkward translation, there are better...

I am not a big fan of the NIV but they did get this one right...

New International Version
Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?"

New Living Translation
For who can prove that the human spirit goes up and the spirit of animals goes down into the earth?

New American Standard Bible
Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the beast descends downward to the earth?

International Standard Version
Who knows whether the spirit of human beings ascends, and whether the spirit of animals descends to the earth?

etc.

After Jesus returns and a dead person comes to life again how does that body get back the info that it had before it died.
Jesus died and He came back to life and He got back all of His life info and He was and is the example of what is to come. The question I ask you is how do you think the info of a person is going to be put back into the body and were does this info come from and how does it all happen?
Perhaps you should ask the Boss when He returns, I am pretty sure that no one really knows right now.

I read in the Bible that humans are born with God's "Spirit" installed in them and then when they die that 'Spirit" returns to God for safe keeping and later it is put back into the body it came from. I am nor speaking about God's Holy Spirit that makes a person a Christian that Spirit can come and go from a person.
There is a spirit in man...

Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.

And it works like the operating system of a computer. In fact, with the dawning of the computer age, we have a model that can help us tremendously...

Our body is the hardware, the spirit in man is the operating system and storage.

I am not very good with the English words so I will make sure the reader understand how I see one of the Spirits. A husband is one and a wife is one and the love is one and that makes three items that are one yet three separate items they are two persons and one love for them and others if they are Christians with God's love.

Mac.
You actually do quite well with the English language.

elect, Yes God is a soul even though is Spirit ,any entity , animal,or fish, or bird,is consider a soul, even spiritual entity,
here is your verses to consider, Isaiah 1:14 your new moons and your appointed feasts MY SOUL hates they are trouble unto me
I am weary of bearing them.
will the angels that sin in the days of Noah,if they be found guilty will they die or not?
will Satan at the end of the millennium will die or not ? Ezec 28:18 you defiled your sanctuaries by the multitude of your
iniquities ,by the iniquity of your trading; therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, and I turned you to ashes
upon the EARTH in the sight of all who saw you. v 19, All who new you among the peoples are astonished at you; you have
become a horror and shall be NO MORE FOREVER.
and so 1st Corinthians 15:45-49 verify the above scriptures, that there is fleshly entity, and a spiritual entity, call SOUL.God bless.

If you read it, there's some in there - reference to the bible in general, too - but you seem to like the smell of your own farts too much to look and see.

O.K. enough of wandering around the block. There is only one thing that makes you, you, and that is your mind, your consciousness, your window to the world that enables you to recognize who you are and know how to operate in the word, the software that runs your brain, which is the hardware. When we die, God, through the Holy Spirit, uploads our mind, seals our access to our memories, and saves us for the resurrection.

Gary, you have nailed this one 100 over 100. The spirit in man contains all that we are, the character, memories and thoughts. It, of itself is not conscious and must work through a body, whether that body be physical or spiritual. We are given spiritual bodies at the resurrection...

1Co 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
1Co 15:43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
1Co 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

The resurrection occurs when?

1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

For those who have died in Christ, the spirit of man and the Holy Spirit are united with a spiritual body and made alive again. This time, eternally alive.

John, Your biggest problem is that Paul did not have a clue what the soul was, nor what the
spirit was or how it operated. Explaining that was impossible until this day and age, when people have cell phones, which operate similar to the Holy spirit, and the internet, which allows millions of people to communicate at the same time which is how the Holy Spirit operates. There is only one spirit. the Holy spirit, we do not have a spirit, only a soul, and digging up scripture that was written and translated by people who were not dealing with an accurate encyclopedia, only leaves you in the Twilight Zone.
At the time of Jesus' crucifixion, no Jeue knew or believed in a soul as it exists, they did not understand the Holy spirit or how it worked. That was the reason Jesus was resurrected as He was, in order to prove to the disciples, that they had a form of life that could exist without a physical body, unfortunately when Ambrose, Augustine. and Jerome came along, they could not accept the fact that a soul could be removed from a physical body, so they changed the gospels to give Jesus a physical body after the resurrection, which has left Christianity in a no man's land where a physical body could pass through walls, it can't and won't. and a physical body that would go into a spiritual heaven, it can't, and won't, the way God has created the world, works beautifully, by removing our minds when we die and replacing them into babies as they are being formed in our mother's wombs, with our memories sealed until we have been remade into perfect spiritual images of Jesus, when all of our memories will be returned and open to us, as Jesus' was when He unseals the sealed scroll with seven seals in Revelation 6.

You may read into it all you want, that is why there are so many interpretations today.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

The soul is the cognitive part of you that lives in your body, your personality, your conscious life. God makes a differentiation between spirit and soul.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isn't the idea that a human is made up of three parts: body, spirit and soul? The body is the physical, the soul is the intellect, personality and character, and the spirit is the part that connects us to God?

I would not say that he did not have a clue, he had the best Teacher one could EVER have...

Gal 1:1 Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead),

Gal 1:11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.
Gal 1:12 For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me through His grace,
Gal 1:16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood,
Gal 1:17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus.
Gal 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.

2Co 12:2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven.

Paul was taught directly by Christ, I think he understood better than we do. Now as far as those he spoke to, I think that we understand the way the spirit (operating system) works with the body (the hardware) far better since the advent of computers. But as for Paul himself, no doubt Christ was able to make him understand.

sir John, In Genesis 1, God gave Moses, this verse:7. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Now when devising this verse and trying to give Moses an understanding of "space", God knew that it would be impossible for Moses with his knowledge of 3500 years ago to understand what He was trying to explain. But Moses knew what water was, he knew that if you went under water, you would drown, he knew you could float in water. The amazing thing is, this is also true of space. the "firmament" is our atmosphere, which divides the water below from space above. "Space" is the water above, that is referred to in Genesis 1:7. Most people would think it meant rain, but rain happens "IN" the firmament, NOT above the firmament. God knew that, and that was what God was saying in Genesis 1:7, but He knew no one would understand it, as Daniel wrote in chapter 12: 4. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
That is my job, to increase the knowledge of those who have been prepared to receive it, remember the parable of the sower. You obviously have not been prepared to receive it, so quit reading other people's mail !!
