[h=1]Should a Christian go to war?[/h]
Should a Christian go to war where he might kill other people when the Bible says to "turn the other cheek" (Luke 6:29) ?
Is it right to do war against others or does the Bible forbid it?

It is difficult to determine when war would be a righteous endeavor given that leaders of nations are not Christian and could easily have ungodly reasons for going to war. Nevertheless, war is an unfortunate reality in this world and it causes great destruction, misery, and loss of life. It should be avoided if possible and undertaken only as a last resort.

HOWEVER IF YOU ARE CALLED TO FIGHT IN A WAR WILL YOU GO ? THAT IS THE BURNING QUESTION

I would yes...

When Cornelius the Roman centurion became the first non-Jewish convert to Christianity, the apostle Peter did not tell him that he needed to leave the army (Acts 10:1-48). Likewise, when the Philippian jailer –presumably, a soldier- was converted by the apostle Paul and his companion Silas, they did not insist that he abandon his profession (Acts 16:25-34). This suggests that the apostles didn't think that was any necessary contradiction between Christian life and military life, including participation in warfare.

I got the words in blue off the internet, sorry for not researching this for myself I did not even search up the scripture so I urge you to do so... I will do so later...

Didn’t Jesus say that we are to turn the other cheek if someone strikes us? Isn’t it written that we are to love our neighbor as our self? How can Christians justify going to war when we are told to love even our enemies? Is it biblical to go to war?

How is a father suppose to discipline his child if he is suppose to turn the other cheek and love the child as himself?

The thing is this is really a debate only if you give into "worldly logic" but to my knowledge of scripture, especially the old testament... War is not sinful nor bad nor wrong... If you do it for correct reasons, so the whole question lies around how do you judge/discern if it is for a just cause...

"Turn the other cheek" is referring to civil matters. Not war. The NT speaks of good soldiers and never once were they told to quit their job.

Revelation 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

If I wasn't a mother then yes I would. I would have joined the navy had I not had medical issues.

My my son has two choices when he turns 18. College or military.

There are plenty of decent verses for a pacifist view of war, and turning the other cheek is not one of them.

[SUP]Matthew 26

49 [/SUP]And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. [SUP]50 [/SUP]And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.
[SUP]51 [/SUP]And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

[SUP]52 [/SUP]Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
[SUP]53 [/SUP]Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Dude come on... Dieing in this world does not mean you enter hell... He is saying that if the man who used the sword was to continue to use it; he would be killed by the Romans that were there...

If Jesus was against violence like you said, how could he drive merchants and tax collectors out of a synagogue with a whip?

I think you are failing to realize what Christians ask of God in their own personalities...

Again a worldly death does not mean that you are doomed to hell... I am done with this. for you have not responded to my second post, nor have you pointed out any credible evidence... Because if that verse is like you say, surely Jesus would not have allowed that disciple to have a sword in the first place... Nor would he tell a Roman soldier that his faith was so great that many Jews will spend eternity wishing theirs was such as his...

The verse that says "turn the other" cheek is a verse that is taken out of context by pacifists against war. That verse is not saying that Christians should just sit on the sidelines allowing themselves to be trampled. God gave us the ability to stand up for ourselves if needed. Have you not read of the incident in the New Testament where Christ fled events that could have killed him until his appropriate time? There are a few of them.
