Should a Christian go to war?

Should a Christian go to war where he might kill other people when the Bible says to "turn the other cheek" (Luke 6:29) ?
Is it right to do war against others or does the Bible forbid it?

It is difficult to determine when war would be a righteous endeavor given that leaders of nations are not Christian and could easily have ungodly reasons for going to war. Nevertheless, war is an unfortunate reality in this world and it causes great destruction, misery, and loss of life. It should be avoided if possible and undertaken only as a last resort.

HOWEVER IF YOU ARE CALLED TO FIGHT IN A WAR WILL YOU GO ? THAT IS THE BURNING QUESTION
surly if your country was being invaded you would join the war to defend your friends and family

yes the Word tells us to love our enemies and to pray for those whom persecute us. However as Christians we are not to be doormats and allow the ungodly to walk over us and to dictate our lives. So it all goes back to the motivation of the war and where God is drawing you in your life. I don't believe that being a soldier is a sin in fact i see it as a way to bring the Word of God to others and other countries.

[SUP]2 [/SUP]Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

What i get from this verse is that those who choose only violence in their life will live and die a violent life. this however does not say that you can not defend your friends, family or country. In fact in many verses say that in the second coming He will come with a sword and will war against the His enemies and bring sin to an end.

it is war right now everyday is a battle do not be decieved to think that every man and women are of good is ultimately being decieved, he who kills by the sword shall die by the sword, the law of the land is mentioned in the bible and one must respect the law of the land and its people, you either toe the line or yer locked up or booted out, same for war under the peace settlement, any country crosses a red line or any sick terrorist group takes innocent shedding of blood is not only held acountable to god for there actions but also the law of the land, look at africa and see the mass killings that is taking place,, and terrorists and weopon dealers love these things weopon dealers thrive on it,, dictators and crazy people exist, people who have lost loved ones from war exist too which is sad i know,, but who know one day maybe one day there may be a bridge between nations (gods great plan) where people walk togeather where people no longer fear and reject what they dont understand, but with hope and belief that one day the world will awaken to a new way and thats when the bridge will be there it could com tomorrow who knows but be on guard and stand up and be a soilder on the look out to serve and protect thos you love through prayer and through actions

Did David spare the life of those he had to kill? (except Shaul). The Israelites were ordered to kill those who were in the land they were to posses... Should I defend my land and property from those who broke in and try to kill my family?

[SUP]Matthew 5[/SUP]
[SUP]43[/SUP] Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
[SUP]44[/SUP] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
[SUP]45[/SUP] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
[SUP]46[/SUP] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
[SUP]47[/SUP] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
[SUP]48[/SUP] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Well I suppose if it came to a war and a Christian soldier pulled the trigger and the bullet struck and killed the enemy, the soldier could do this without hate, but I do not see much love in the act.

I think it depends on the war too, is it justified? For example, Hitler was a nutter invading other countries with his political and evolutionary ideas, that man had to be stopped even if that meant killing thousand of men standing in the way of getting to him.

Should a Christian go to war?
I don't believe so, no. I'm not saying being a soldier is a sin, but I think in this day and age, soldiers are often used in the same ways the Mafia uses hitmen. If you're a soldier in the army, or a hitman in the Mafia, it is a very difficult decision to say no, when you're ordered to murder the innocent. Such a decision would not be without great personal cost. It would be prudent to avoid such a situation altogether (i.e. don't join the army, don't join criminal gangs).

Should a Christian go to war where he might kill other people when the Bible says to "turn the other cheek" (Luke 6:29) ?
"Love your neighbour as yourself" might be a better support scripture. I would say generally, in this day and age, no.

Is it right to do war against others or does the Bible forbid it?
War is not forbidden in the bible, but in bible times, God was the leader of the Israelites. When God says to kill men, women, children and even animals, you can 100% trust his motives. When some guy called Barry from Kenya who seems to lie about everything says to kill people - I reckon you better be asking what for.

Agreed. I guess I would be pacifist as far as possible. But if it came to war, then make sure you do it right. An all-out nuclear/chemical/biological holocaust. War is hell - let's not play games, or do things by half-measures. If that is what is truly needed, so be it.

HOWEVER IF YOU ARE CALLED TO FIGHT IN A WAR WILL YOU GO ? THAT IS THE BURNING QUESTION
If the government wants to kill innocent people on the other side of the world, let them kill their own victims, and be subject to judgement for it. Why should I take on the guilt for their crimes?

theres a revolution in everyones heart its just some revolutionaries are freedom fighters,
and you saying that the only war not being a scam from the french revolution may actually insight a war of words,, seariously dude the french revolution was a just war over all other wars since then,

i mean come on dude you support that war but not any other war since then ,,, come on shine a light ,, there has been probbaly hundres of little wars you dont know about that if they hadnt of been fort they would of been as big as a french revolution, such as africa right now and so called freedom fighters,, you know the reasons for these wars on there part is to strike fear and get into power by some sort of peace settlement, thats what happens it starts with a small group and through media it grows and through other groups it gets supported because the other groups know if the group there supporting gets into power they have a foothold to exort money leagaly ,, this stuff happens

Including that war! They are all for profit. The French revolution was planned years in advance.

I fully expect the US to end up in a civil war. If it comes to that then you better believe I'll protect me and my own. I already have a metal sign on my door that says WARNING: protected by 2nd Amendment Security. Of course that has more to do with teenage punks that tried to break in my house recently than a war. I think I just got off track.
