Is born again a mental or physical condition? Many Christians are taught that born again is a change of mind, is it?

I will start off with this verse from Peter then I will head to Jesus conversation with Nicodemus.

1 Peter 1:22-24 KJV
[22] Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: [23] Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. [24] For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

Being born again of a incorruptible seed? Everyone one who is flesh is corrupt!
At the first resurrection or judgement day is when some and all will remove this corruptible flesh

I gonna take this verse by verse because Jesus makes a simple and clear statement here

John 3:3-4 KJV
[3] Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Jesus said 2 things here
Except a man must be born again
he cannot see the kingdom of God

the word again is a key word that must not be overlooked!
Man cannot see God's kingdom unless he is born again!

John 3:4 KJV
[4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Nicodemus asked a very intelligent question.
He knew man has been born once from woman
He knew that again means a second time.

To be a child of God, you need to be a direct creation by God. Adam and Eve were direct creations by
God as was Jesus in His Humanity. In Job, the angels are refered to as "sons of God" because they
too were direct creation of God. One needs to be "born again" and there God will make a direct
creation. The Bible says we are a new creation.

The immediate thing we "see" and "enter" is the spiritual Kingdom of God ,not the physical kingdom of God. And peter is not talking of our bodies , but the incorruptible Word of God. 1Pet,1:23 "...born again,.." by "but incorruptible, through the word of God.." The new birth has nothing to do with our physical body, it is our soul/spirit which is recreated into the image of God. Adam and Eve lost the image of God when they sinned, but God recreated them back into His image ,when He gave them His new birth. They were born of the incorruptible Word of God ,even as we are born of God by His incorruptible Word, preached by men and spoken to our hearts by God. God has always saved His "chosen" people the same way, in all ages,
God gives His new birth and forgiveness because of and through the blood of Jesus,His son. This is the mystery of the O.T. that the N.T. explains. No one today,as far as I have heard, understands this. But it is true. More latter, Love to all, Hoffco

To be born again requires not a change of mind not spirit but a change of heart. Often times it takes us to be at our lowest point to have this change of heart and be born again. it isn't an automatic full blown change of the heart but there is a spark in the change and it takes the ripple effect. day by day if we are born again our hearts become closer and closer to his own and eventually there is a connection made and we begin love others as he does and we see with a new pair of eyes.

This change happened to me after a while when I finally became a christian, and this connection of the hearts defines my faith because this connection is when the lord and I fell madly in love with each other. the speed of how this happens however depends on the person, for me it happened quite fast even though I am not sure why

It's pretty simple, We are born of corruptible seed, which is to say we belong to the family of Satan (Sin/rebellion) at birth. To be born again means to be taken out of this former family of Satan and placed into the family of God through faith by grace alone in the one sacrifice acceptable to God via the Son. By a genuine repentance and acceptance of this wonderful gift and by receiving Christ as our Lord and savior is by the means of which regeneration and salvation is obtained.

This is how I understand it.

Let me give you more on the Mystery of God hide in the O.T.. Study these passages ,not just one verse: Mk.4:11 ; Eph.1:9 3:3-4 6:19 ; Col.1:26 2:2 4:3 ;1Cor. 2:7 and all of ch.1 ; tie these all together with the theme of the whole Bible in Rom. 8:29-30 . The mystery of the O.T. is that, the elect of God are all saved the same way, "in Christ", eternally loved, eternally chosen, eternally called, eternally justified, eternally glorified, In Christ, salvation is a done deal! As good as done in the mind of God. The theme of the Bible is: God's eternal covenant of Grace. Therefore as we preach the Gospel we are garentteed success because God will save all His chosen children. and we must be careful to preach the whole message of 1.repent 2. trust and 3. obey Jesus, to the glory of God. Love to all. Hoffco

. When we are born again we receive the Holy Ghost, and then we are enabled to understand spiritual things. We may still choose to follow God or not to follow God, it gives us the ability to understand God so that we can do that. Everyone who lives only for the material world with no spiritual awareness is called in the flesh, and after being born again we may decide not to seek God. We still have our freedom.

When the bible speaks of "in the flesh is corrupt" it means that those who are not alive spiritually. We are mortals in a human body that was created by God and is the temple of God. We can be purified by Christ, cleansed. We are born in sin that we inherited from Adam, we are reborn in the Holy Spirit. Sin still separates us from God, we may be disobedient. We purify our souls by obeying truth through the spirit. If we do not know God we wither and fall away, if we are cleansed by Christ through repentance we have eternal life.

After being born again we are to purify our soul by being obedient. We are to love our brethren. When it says everyone in the flesh is corrupt is means that everyone who has no knowledge of God within them is corrupt. It does not mean that we are never made clean and forgiven through Christ.

Please keep in mind, the new birth is not caused by our faith or repentance or works, they are the fruit of Gods new birth, The faith is the gift of God; There is a delicate balance of actions here. The hand of God should never be tied by our faith, He is the sovereign one at work on a dead soul. He must make us alive, before we chose Him. the false teaching of the free will of man is a terrible shame on God. the new birth is not by"the will of the flesh nor of the will man" But in a real sense, we must "ask" God to do to us ,His work of the new birth. But God waits for no man. study Rom. ch.6 ending with vs.22-23. never quote v.23, without v22. Be bless of God. Hoffco

I feel that God is dealing with you GOI don't let anyone talk you out of what you see in the scriptures. I may have missed it but I didn't understand anyone to have addressed your question in the title of this thread,

So I will - The answer in my opinion is yes you are right we are resurrected when we initially come to Christ and as a proof text refer to Col 3:1.

Col 3:1 ¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (KJV)

This is the first resurrection or standing up as the Greek word literally means.

Respectfully - Brian

Sorry, Redtent, You have no understanding of the new Birth. You need to go back to the scriptures and start over with the basics, as I have spelled out. Love Hoffco

Sorry, brmicke, one doesn't get a physical resurrection when one is "born of God". it is a spiritual "risen" with Christ not Physical. These people Paul was talking to are here on earth ,in their physical bodies, and not Physically raised. Are you Here on earth talking to us, or are you in Heaven,LOL, talking to us. If I have miss read you, sorry, but you sound like you are way out in space, out of touch with reality. Are you a Christian Scientists believer? Do you spiritualize all of life? and deny all of the Scriptures and earthly thinges? Love Hoffco

Our experiences are either of God or are of the Devil, we need to evaluate our exp. with God's word,, All of our Faith must be acc. to the Bible. Love Hoffco

That's the thing though, it is good to evaluate with God's word but so many people not just misinterpret it but twist it to fit their own agendas. Seen it many times on here.

To the OP. To be born again is a simple thing. First we are born to sin. When we accept Christ, we are born to the Spirit and the work of the cross breaks the power of sin. Most people, when they get saved, experience a lightness as they could float away, so to speak. That is the burden of sin being lifted off their shoulder. Jesus said" come unto me all you that heavy laden, for my yoke is easy and my burden light". To be born again is to be free from the power of sin.

I have no idea what you are talking about. People get the idea that they do not have to do anything because it is "of the flesh". They have no idea that there is a connection between the physical world and the spiritual world. There is. When we sin it affects the spiritual. God is not physical and the Holy Spirit is not physical. But when we separate ourselves so we say we can act in any way only the spiritual matters, or take the gnostic stance that all physical is evil, we are not being correct. I wanted to make that clear.

I am surprised at you, Hoffco. I have read your posts and I had you spotted as a Christian who would state your views and never in such a judgmental way, but more in keeping with scripture. And making the statement that you know I do not study scripture!
