Perhaps they read Daniels writings (when he was exiled in Babylon, which was conquered by the Medes/Persians) and believed them.
i would think they were well read in all the Hebrew scriptures.

Sometimes it seems Christians are less tolerant towards their own.
Jesus wasnt very tolerant to His own.
500-1000 years later the church was less tolerant to its own burning thousand of Christians every year.
Jesus practiced what He taught, the middle age bishops and cardinals lived in lavish homes at the poor persons expense.
the fruits define the teacher.

He calls them hypocrites, thats a person that says one thing and does another. i dont thnk they were misteaching the scripture, they were manipulating their positions of power for their own personal agendas, church leaders still do it to this day.

Matthew 23:3
so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.

here Jesus says do what they teach, dont do what they do. if what they taught was wrong it makes little sense for Jesus to command people to obey it.
I can bring one example after another showing they were false teachers...

Mark 7:9-13 NASB
[9] He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. [10] For Moses said, 'Honor YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER'; and, 'He WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH'; [11] but you say, 'If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),' [12] you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; [13] thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that."

I agree, the Lord's is truly an important example to always take into account. He did seem to act more harshly in regard to the leaders of the people who were false teachers (like many of the Pharisees were), of course.

~Deut

Yep, He called them Vipers and full of dead bones. That is basically telling someone to sit on something and spin. He even told Peter, Get thee behind Me Satan, when Peter rebuked Him about His soon coming death.

i agree they were false teachers. false teachers doesnt mean they were making up scriptures as they go. it means they taught one thing and did another. we know they were false teachers by their actions and not their words. this is the point i been making all along.

im talking about mainstream Judaism at the time of Jesus which was the pharisee school of thought.

I've been dealing with this issue for a while now. Several family and friends on FB have pointed this out to me. So I'd like some Biblical opinions,Scripture verses would be a big help on the subject of tolerance of other religions and beliefs. I don't think people understand what is meant by tolerance and a key word the follows is "acceptance". I think Christians are being deceived on this issue. So I'd appreciate if anyone could enlighten me to where the Bible says tolerate or accept other religious views and beliefs. Thank you.
Paul writes in Romans that many pagans or gentiles, have teh truth written on their hearts with their own conscience accusing or excusing them as they act. For me this has alway been a strong warning not to judge others, but this does not translate we accept any other faith tha that delivered to us by the Holy Spirit.

We are to pray for others, ,even ur enemies, but we do not pry for the sins (wrongdoings) of others for that is taken as participating in their sins.

The bottom line of tolerance is all in love. We love all men but we cannot deny Christ by praying for their wrong-doing, het we pray for their salvation…….I think this should be more than sufficient to explain how we are to tolerate others.

Many may be deceived by this tolerance for other religions, and the acceptance of them, for we love the people, and have to show love for them, but we do not tolerate their religious positions with the attitude that they are compatible, or have some truth, as some would say, including the Pope, but that they do not have the truth, for the only truth is Jesus is Lord, and anybody that says that will certainly go by the Bible, and not another religion.

People say it is freedom in America, and of God, to allow us freedom of choice to choose our religion without oppression of any religion, but that is not true.

For America allows Satanism, God's enemy to be practiced there, and the occult, and the new age movement that will pave the way to the beast kingdom where God will put them down.

God told Israel to not allow any other religious ways in their nation, but people think it is of God to have a choice without oppression to practice what religion you want.

The American government is to do the will of God like all people, and not allow any religion to be practiced there, and since they do it testifies that they truly are not doing the will of God, so why do they not admit that and stop acting like they are doing the will of God, when they allow Satanism to be practiced there without oppression.

They say God bless you, but you can practice Satanism, God's enemy, and it is freedom from God, for He says you should not be oppressed by people, but choose how you want to live.

Not we have a choice as God gave us, so choose how you want to live, but we are supposed to put forth only the ways of God, and let them choose from another source if they do not want to hear the truth, for that is how we do the will of God, not present a smorgasbord of truth, and falsehood, and then say we give you a choice as God says you have.

Does not make any sense.

We should not be tolerant of other religions, for they do not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, although they might look at Him as a great teacher in spiritual enlightenment, and love, but it is part of the deception, along with United Nations, and others, to get the nations to harmonize to bring them together as one, so they can produce the New Age Christ so they can evolve to be greater, and spiritual.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said,

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition,

I hope this helps saint😃😃😃😃

Then why did Jesus say do what they teach if what they taught was false? And how could they be hypocrites if they taught the same evil they lived? Doesn't make sense.

That's not what Jesus said. He told them to observe what they bid. This held true until the New Testament was instituted. In the Book of Acts, they no longer observed what they bid unless it was for conscience sake.

Matthew 23:2-3 KJV
[2] Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: [3] All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Acts 5:27-29,41-42 KJV
[27] And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, [28] Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. [29] Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. [41] And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. [42] And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Obviously you misunderstand what he was saying.....because he does not contradict himself....

Blind leaders of the blind
Hypocrites
Teaching for the commandments of God the traditions of men
Making two fold the children of hell
Generation of vipers and snakes <--John's view

So which is it.........

Im not sure on that. He says do what they teach, not what they do and follows with they preach but don't practice. That sounds very plain that it was their works that was at fault and not their teachings.

Some good answes here, just want to add one thing

ROmans 5:6-8
For when we were without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet persdventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, CHrist died for us.

Who did Christ die for...? All of mankind, because all of us were sinners. Before we believed, we did not believe, right? So we must tell others who dont yet believe the gospel and love them into the Kingdom.

I dont know what you really mean about tolerate or acceptance of other relgious beliefs maybe give an example, but Jesus died for these people who didnt know Him and were on their way to death being the wages of sin, instead of eternal life.

Someone wrote tolerance is like forbearance, well we can suffer at the hands of unbelievers but Jesus does not call us into bondage with them, he sets us free. Dont be seduced by accepting their beliefs or rather, unbeliefs. There really is only one way, truth and the life to believe in Jesus...anything else is unbelief, believing a lie is the same as unbelief in Jesus.
