sure. I carried on a good number of posts with him waaaay back...under another name

he is dead set on discounting genuine biblical tongues and he does follow some other religion but declines to tell us which it might be
He needs to know what happens to someone who preaches another Jesus and believes a different gospel to what Paul preached.

You are welcome to your opinion. I am sure that your view from NZ is exactly what you have said.

However.....here in the USA......the religious TV system is dominated by the "Prosperity Gospel" charlatans.

What I have posted here is exactly what I have observed and recorded. ANYONE can go to "YOU TUBE" and see for yourself without taking my word for anything.

Right here in the city where I am speaking to you from are 3 Pentecostals churches which I have sat in and seen what I have detailed for you so to think that I have "Generalized" my position is simply not true.

Again......IF, IF speaking or PRAYING in tongues is valid and tongues are in operation today.........
Then by all means, Go Ahead Right Now and do that.

Anyone.......post your utterances and do what you say is valid to do. Instead of telling all of us how this is done and how it is VALID.....
JUST DO IT!

If you can fake it or even if you can really do it, I see no reason what sover why you can not type out with your fingers what you are saying with your TONGUE!!!!

So...........DO IT!

The I will translate it for you!
and as has been said to you many times, and has been said to others of your belief system, you love to show videos of people who are not obedient to scripture and you love to pretend everyone is just like that

you distort or simply outright ignore scripture

you are typical of those who have gone before you and no doubt will enjoin the forum with the same venom in times to come

your distortions and lies are visible to all but not the spirit that is behind them

sad and too far gone, unless God has mercy, to see what you are doing

I don't use tongues publicly except in a fellowship service where I know that there is someone with the gift of interpretation, so I won't be typing anything of the sort here.

He needs to know what happens to someone who preaches another Jesus and believes a different gospel to what Paul preached.
he has a better chance of mercy than those who affirm Christianity and yet oppose all things Holy Spirit from what I understand

he is upfront stating he is not a believer...profile info

he is not culpable as those who call themselves Christian and blaspheme the Holy Spirit and mock believers

here again are Paul's 'notes' on tongues. there is nothing in them to suggest they will stop or should be stopped. in fact, he says do not stop them. and again, those scriptures are ignored while folks pat each other on the back with their HUMAN reasoning

I would say I feel sorry for you, but I actually am more concerned for those whom you forbid to drink of the Holy Spirit

Spiritual Gifts in Paul’s Letters

Romans 12:6–8
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

1 Corinthians 12:7–10
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues

1 Corinthians 12:28
28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.

Ephesians 4:11
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers
Don't feel sorry for me. I am perfectly happy with my Theological stands on Scripture. You see, my standing is based on many, many Doctrinal Truths not just on Spiritual Gifts. If in some way, my interpretation of the times of the Spiritual Gifts are off, it would not effect my belief in Truth. However, for those caught up in the lies and half truths of the less than 150 year old Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, it would devastate their beliefs. For if those who teach as I do are right, then it would cast a long shadow over everything that your church and you believe. Essentially nihilating all confidence in what is being taught.

For if these gifts are not presently coming from the Holy Spirit, then where are they coming from? This for the Pentecostals and the Charismatics would be a scary question.

Ah! You think you got me have you?

Which denomination do you think has influenced me? I have also been a member of an Anglican, a Baptist and a Presbyterian church fellowshipping with Charismatics in all of them. Those Charismatics were quite different from many Pentecostals I fellowshipped with from 1966-1978. Also I have an M.Div from a non-Charismatic Bible College. So, I wonder which of these have influenced me the most, seeing that after 40 years I have forgotten most of my Pentecostal teaching.

You see, not all Charismatics are of the health and wealth band of merry men led by Robbing Hood. Anglican, Baptist, and Presbyterian charismatics are as far away from health and wealth as Mars is from Earth. And they all pray in tongues, yet hold true to their own traditions. Maybe you have never met those charismatics to know the difference.
My friend.........please do not think that way. I am NOT TRYING to get YOU or anyone else!

That is how children operate. I am too old for such nonsense. I am only posting what GOD HAS SAID.

If you will take the time to look back at all the posts I have made on this, whether you admitt it or not...they are all based on the Scriptures, the WORD OF GOD!

By the way...I am a Charismatic. I am a Bapticostal. We shout....we raise hands.....we clap hands...we stand up....we say AMEN when the preaching is hot!

We do those things because the Bible says that they are acceptable.

But the Bible does NOT say speaking in tongues is acceptable in church.

READ ACTS. Those 120 HEARD WHAT THE APOSTLES SAID IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE.
THE 120 DID NOT SPEAK IN TONGUES. READ IT BROTHER!!!!

THEN THERE ARE WOMEN HERE INSISTING THAT THEY SPEAK IN TONGUES IN CHURCH BUT WHAT DOES THE bible say IN 1 CORINTHIANS 14:34............
"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law."

This is just not that hard to understand what is happening my friend!

I used to be a general in the Marine corp. Do you also believe that?

Most of time, we believe what we want to believe and leave truth on the shelf.

John 17:17...........
"Sanctify them with truth....THY WORD IS TRUTH"
I have absolute respect for the military. If you have served in areas where you have put yourself in harm's way you are a much braver man than I am and you would have my absolute respect.

The fact is that we all see through a glass darkly and have partial knowledge about the things of the Spirit. It is like looking through the wrong end of the telescope. We walk by faith and not by sight, and therefore our theological position is one of faith. The Scripture says for every person to be sure in their own mind. This is why, when we disagree, we respect each other.

I appreciate that in all our debates, you have been totally respectful and pleasant in your comments and replies. That makes our discussions interesting and stimulating.

I mean he does have a "sheepskin" behind him. Apparently the Lord didn't lead him to a particular assembly however, seems to be all over the map.

To bad more people don't learn their Theology from the Scriptures. I know one group that does.

I'm only joking!

I have jousted with many over my years on forums, and I have had to concede only once where the guy defeated me with good logic. I had to yield to him and acknowledge that he was right and I was wrong. But that was after 30 pages of debate in the thread! :)

The reference you have quoted was not about women speaking in tongues. It was about women interrupting prophecies by constant questioning, which they didn't have a right to do, and that they should be asking their husbands at home. Paul did not intend it to be a blanket prohibition of women speaking in churches.

No I didn't cherry pick Verses ignoring the other gifts but kept the discussion to "tongues" or languages.

You said:

language is to an identity of a people as their native Tongue. I see in your scriptural reference you failed to speak on the word "Unknown". glōssa from 1cor 12:2

which is speaking of a language that was not known to the person speaking it.

First let me say that the word "unknown" of 1 Cor. 14:2 (Not 12:2 - you might want to slow down a bit on your replies, these things are important), is not in the greek text. The word "unknown" was provided by the translators. In italics in the KJV. The term "unknown tongue" never is presented in the Greek text. As such the verse should look like this:

1Cor 14:2 For the one speaking in a tongue speaks not to men, but unto God: for no man is understanding; howbeit in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.

Explanation of the above verse: So the one speaking in a heretofore language they have never spoken before, which is the gift of the Spirit, is not being understood by those who hear that one speaking because they do not speak this language. Only God understands because God understands all languages. The person speaking, is speaking the mysteries of the Gospel and praising God but edifies only him/herself. This would be understood like this: If a person was granted the gift of being able to speak German in an English speaking church, no one hearing that one would understand what he was saying. You need an interpreter fluent in German and can speak English, otherwise only the person speaking is being edified. This leads us into the subject of verse 3:

1Cor 14:3 But the one that prophesies (In this context the Greek word translated "prophesies", προφητεύω, means to speak forth the Word of God or to teach.), speaks to men for edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

And the explanation given for verse 2, above, is verified in verse 4.

1Cor 14:4 The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but the one who prophesies is edifying the church.

Secondly, I answered your charge in my first post as to how these languages were to be understood but I will repeat it:

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
Acts 2:6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.
Act 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galileans?
Act 2:8 And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?

These verses of Scripture, are the clearest verses in Scripture, as to the understanding of Biblical languages.

The Galileans (v.7), were speaking a new language that they had not previously known, by the gift of the Spirit (v.4). These new languages were clearly recognized by the listeners (v.6&8). The miracle here... is not the nature or linguistics of the languages but rather, the source of these languages. The Holy Spirit. Non of the Galileans had any previous formal training in these languages.

These gifted languages, of the Spirit, are the languages of the men of this world. Not heavenly, higher than thou, languages made up in the mind of men. Scripture will not support this kind of twisting and folding of the Truth.
wrong! maybe you should let go of your bias. You do not apply a humanistic interpretation to the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

You says

"Explanation of the above verse: So the one speaking in a heretofore language they have never spoken before, which is the gift of the Spirit, is not being understood by those who hear that one speaking because they do not speak this language. "

That is not what it says.

2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God,

for no one understands him( to understand, perceive the sense of what is said)

; however, in the spirit he speaks( to speak ) mysteries. (hidden thing, secret, mystery )

3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

If a person was granted the gift of being able to speak German in an English speaking church, no one hearing that one would understand what he was saying. You need an interpreter fluent in German and can speak English, otherwise only the person speaking is being edified. This leads us into the subject of verse

the word "unknown" in the KJV In italics yes, however, the gift of the Holy Spirit and the context of Prophesying and speaking in tongues were gifts given by the Holy Spirit for 1. the person to the church as a body.

Paul said I will pray with my understanding and I will pray in the Spirit. this is parallel with 1cor 14:2-4

actually, it is not a scary question. We have dealt with that many threads and posts ago. You must have missed it.
For you, it is the dead belief that you are closer to God by your human intellect. I have seen more people like you use the occult to explain the gifts of the Holy Spirit instead of the word of God.

Here is the main reason why. You and others like you have failed to prove the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not for today. You took two verses in one chapter 1cor 13:8-9 and rip out the remaining three chapters.

As far as the people in the videos we all said they were in error and false and not reflective of what I have from the Holy Spirit. it's ok. You mock and scoff like most cowards would do and that's ok too. I served 20 years in the service to that did not make me a Theologian no more than being a Marine makes one. I l laugh when one says they are pentacostel because they raise their hands and display emotion which in early thread Mocked and scoff in video those who did the same thing That is a Hypocrite.

if you think using two verses in one chapter of 1cor, where the unit chapter contextually are starting in chapter 11 moving through 14, please be my guest.

Please use your worldly carnal linguist to explain the supernatural.

Yes Paul did write that but we know the emphasis here is understanding that all true believers pray in the spirit with the Spirit. For if you are not a born again believer and possess not the Spirit, then all prayer is meaningless. God will not hear you.

I do not deny these gifts but I do deny that they are happening in the church today. They will return in the Great Tribulation. You folks that believe they are taking place today, expend so much energy to prove it. To bad this energy is not spent on the Gospel message. Even Paul tried to check the enthusiasm over these gifts. They were a tool of the ministry in the beginning days of the Gospel but these things were to never be seen as an end all to all things.

You quoted 14:2-4 but what about 14:19-22:

1Cor 14:19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
1Cor 14:20 Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.
1Cor 14:21 In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.
1Cor14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe.

Tongues was the fulfillment of the OT prophesy of verse 21. This is what Paul is trying to get across, It was a sign for the Jews and was not to be elevated out of it's intended purpose. These kinds of signs are not needed today, so why would they be continued? Just as circumcision is no longer a sign, nor are physical sacrifices, the way God is working today has moved on. However this is why "tongues" and other gifts will return in the Great Tribulation because God is turning back to the Jews who presently have the veil of Moses before their eyes. Since they seek after signs, they will get signs.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit with be with you and in you and come upon you. John 14 and 16 and Acts 1:8.

It is the Lord Jesus himself who said this. Now you want to only apply salvation and not the empowering of the Holy Spirit to the Believer today for the ability to be a witness as Jesus said? We can get saved the way the Apostles did just not have the power and gifting of the Holy Spirit the way they did?

Now you want to assert again we are of the devil. That is a cowardly thing to say to a person while on the net in a chat.

You know nothing of me. How do you know what I spend on the gospel message? You are just a judgmental person who thinks you are better than anyone and even more when one disagrees with you.

1Cor 14:19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Yep that is what it says BUT that is not all HE said now is it?

Read Verse 39-40 in chapter 14 of 1cor. I am going to call you a cherry picker.

You have no dust on your feet you have it between your ears. You do not proclaim scripture you use it to control people most likely due to an inferiority complex. Anytime you would like to come out to the street and work it for the Kingdom of God I would love to see how you bring the word of god to those who are gang bangers and addicted.
