I understand what you mean so let phrase it this way? How do reconcile verses that seem to contradict each other? Rather than me giving you an example could you please provide one or if not I will provide one, it's your choice.

The best way that I've found to know the truth about a subject, is to do topic studies. You need good software to make this easier. Then you know which is speaking correctly.

Taking scriptures out of context will lead to error.

I was like this for years...

Best advice I can give you is spend a good amount of time in prayer asking God for guidance. One thing that worked for me personally as well was reading large chunks of the bible at once. You could start with the New Testament and read through it in no time. Doing that really showed me the bigger picture unlike a few verses here and there that were causing complications.

The very best you can do is read the Bible and ask the Lord to show you the truth. Bible studies are a good way to learn. But coming here and listening to people throwing around terms and doctrines will really only confuse you more. I believe what I believe because Gods Word teaches it. While you may read a book by an author that helps you understand parts of the Bible better the Bible is always first. Listen to the Holy Spirit and you cannot go wrong.

Well we've all been there done that. Don't feel alone. Learn and grow. Accept all of what Scripture says.

As far as all points being backed up from Scripture including opposing views on both sides, only one can be correct. This takes time for one to discern between truth and error, after of course Holy Spirit illumination to proper exegesis and 2 Timothy 2:15. Keep studying. I pray God leads you to truth and into biblical discernment wrought by proper exegetical interpretation.

John 3:3-8
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

1 Peter 1:23
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Ephesians 1:13-14
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

1 Corinthians 2:12-14

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 John 2:26-27
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

2 Peter 1:19-21
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

People also need to recognize Ephesians 4:11ff and lose their pride. Accept others who are sound in doctrine as helpers, God has sent them to help His sheep.

Read God's Word, spend time in close fellowship with Father, and pray for understanding.

And be patient with God. He will give understanding over your whole lifetime.

Many of us (if not all of us) have picked up our Bibles, started reading, and a verse which we have read a gazillion times suddenly pops out at us and we now understand something about that verse that we had never seen before. That is God bringing increase to our hearts. Why does it take time? I believe it's because we're not ready to understand. There are certain concepts which must be understood and built upon.

And you have what you need right there! Dont get bogged down buy all the stuff that is discussed here. The Bible is all we really need. Yes,pastors can expound on the Word, but we need to know the Bible for ourselves and that the most important thing. You sound like you are right where you should be! Dont let hard discussions here get you sidetracked or make you lose focus. The Holy Spirit is your guide and God will speak these truths to your heart. Keep on keepin on.! :)

Ok muzungu, good question? First of all I am not a Calvnist even though I have friends who are. But to answer your question which is based on John 6:44 where Jesus said the following. "No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me DRAWS him; and I will raise him up on the last day."

God always takes the intiative in seeking out man because man is "depraved" in our hearts that we are incapable of seeking or choosing God. There is Jeremiah 17:9, and you can read Romans 3:9-12 and many other verses. So when the Holy Spirit makes you aware in your inner man that something is not right God is drawing you to Him and you realize you have to repent and invite Jesus Christ into your heart. Then you start a life long journey of getting to know Him by reading and studying your Bible. And as you travel through the peaks and MANY, MANY VALLEYS you learn and your relationship becomes more intimate than you can imagine.

Lastly, why God choose certain people and not others I don't know. I do know He knows mans heart and one of the questions I want to ask Him is, "Why me?" Does this make sense to you?

The answer is: Consistency. The view which is consistent, thats the right one. And context, obviously.

This was me also. The bible just made sense. I didnt subject myself to human doctrine until i had the foundation of the Bible read cover to cover.

Obviously there is a few topics strongly disagreed on. So I studied using my foundational understanding and Spirit guiding instincts ( some confuse this with that gut feeling that wants to guide you) to study the different opinions of the most debated topics.

Come to find out what scripture has revealed to me through the foundational reading was not a alone belief as to many others saw the same concept I had read in my first read through.

In fact my foundational belief only needed help to explain it and learn to defend it.

I believe the very first time reading the Bible can reveal the foundation of the true core of the bible. But many get lost in human doctrines before even reading the whole bible or get lost in human doctrines after.

When all along if they would build the foundation first then test human doctrines against it. I truly believe the Spirit will guide you in truth.

Correct me if im wrong but scrolls didnt have paragraphs or punctuation. And was read as one continued process.

You will get more insight out of reading each book or letter all the way through in one sit down.
