hi all! i can recognize myself from this scripture of thrown around by every wind of doctrine!!!!!!!!!! its sad but i must be honest, what i mean is that i read something on this forum and i agree with it, then i read something contrary and also agree with it why??????? because its all backed by scripture!!

how do i know whats a good doctrine and whats not if everything is scriptural????? its not enough if its scriptural?????
My suggestion is read scripture and also meditate on it...even if you read a
chapter a day, you'll begin to experience the depths and meanings...eventually you will
come to understand where scripture leads...that doesn't mean you disregard everyone
if you need some help...but in a while you will see you don't need as much help as you
once did...so by meditating, I mean absorb what you read internally and not just read
it as a novel...you'll find that in a while, things fall into context rather than letting
everything dangling in the air :D

I think the Lord has really helped me in that respect. I was a Christian at 14 but never read the bible until 18, I will not go into why, just that when I begin to read the bible I made up my mind to read and study it every night. I was in the Navy at the time and for two years I read the bible from cover to cover and then over again, without any outside source telling me how I was suppose to interpret what I read. Also, I have very good reading comprehension. Anyway, I got a really good understanding of the bible that was not tainted by bias. Now later on, after I knew the bible really well, then I begin to listen to what others thought about the bible. My opinion is, if possible just read the bible for yourself, cover to cover without prejudice.

People also need to recognize Ephesians 4:11ff and lose their pride. Accept others who are sound in doctrine as helpers, God has sent them to help His sheep.
You reminded me of Proverbs 27:17 :)

And yes, all believers in the body have different gifts... we're like a well oiled car, all parts of it needed :)

The scriptures are spiritually discerned, therefore the unsaved man cannot understand them. There will always be non believers (without the Holy Spirit) who will always get the wrong interpretation. At the same time you'll come across some believers who do have the Holy Spirit, but because they favor their particular (non salvational) view they will unfortunately end up twisting multiple scriptures to support that view. We're supposed to change our view to match the scriptures, not change the scriptures to support our view. Check out my signature below my post :)

The bible is flawless with no contradictions. God is perfect. Men aren't. I do agree with what someone said here, that the ongoing debates will confuse you. So pray on it and ask God to help you in your studying of the scriptures. Make sure to read by chapter so you get the correct context and also read the chapters that follow and precede because they usually give you messages that relate to what you just read. Too often on here I have noticed someone will pull out a verse to support a false teaching but if they had just read the rest of the chapter the context would be very clear.

Here's a scripture on spiritual wisdom.

1 Corinthians...

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Since all things are possible with God because it is impossible for God to lie, without the principles of the Gospel then it is hard to tell what is possible and what is a lie.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Stop being a child and mature in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

Ac 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded

For the cause of Christ

I think a lesson here might be that we need to learn to reason things out. We can't just lean on scripture.

The Bible is the "word" of God, not a series of how-God-is-doing-today. Word -- singular. Not words -- plural. And yet, many make it the fortune cookie at the end of their meal.

The same God who flushed the entire army of Egypt into the Red Sea is the same God who tells us to love our enemy.

The same God who killed 2800 of his chosen people one day for making a gold calf, is also the God who is long-suffering.

The same God who told his chosen people to commit genocide for all who already live in the land Promised to his people, is the same God who said, "Forgive 7 X 70."

It's one word. It's from that God. Rectify that, and you won't be swept around by every wind like a plastic bag in a supermarket parking lot on a windy day. You'll be anchored. And even there, you need to know there is only one way to be anchored -- by the same God who wrote that one word for the people he has chosen by his strength, not our ability to flutter around at any breeze. :)

When people post a verse, check context. Because many people are out to prove their god by picking the matching fortune cookie inserts to what they want him to be.

I understand what you mean so let phrase it this way? How do reconcile verses that seem to contradict each other? Rather than me giving you an example could you please provide one or if not I will provide one, it's your choice.

The very best you can do is read the Bible and ask the Lord to show you the truth. Bible studies are a good way to learn. But coming here and listening to people throwing around terms and doctrines will really only confuse you more. I believe what I believe because Gods Word teaches it. While you may read a book by an author that helps you understand parts of the Bible better the Bible is always first. Listen to the Holy Spirit and you cannot go wrong.
And yet, Muzu can say the exact same thing...

And believes God saves all, too.

Hello, as many have said, the best way to find truth in Scripture is thru prayer and study. Topical studies woukd be a good start by looking at both sides of tge "argument". Study should ALWAYS begin with pray for direction by the Holy Spirir. It is also good to read what other Theologians have written on the subject but remember that Gods Word has final say.
