The jewish peoples culture and traditions are extremely important in finding out who our Saviour is and why He is needed, in my opinion. If you don't understand the jewish Passover how can you understand what Jesus did on the cross? If you don't understand why animals were sacrificed according to jewish tradition how can you understand that a sacrifice is necessary for the atonement of our souls? I'm not claiming to know all the jewish traditions but the ones I do know have blessed me in giving me more knowledge of my Saviour Jesus Christ.
God Bless You
Thankyou grandpa
and you bring up an interesting point, the passover. Recently from reading the Torah Ive realised that there is a completely different concept we should be celebrating when it comes to communion. Communion in a way is our 'thanksgiving meal' we share with our Creator, ALOT like the priests eating some of the sacrifices after they were cooked.
When we eat of it we are thanking God for Yeshua being the completion of the sacrifices and other prophecies like the passover. Now what alot of christians today thank God for however is one sacrifice, the Yom Kippur (i think thats what its called), they thank God and His Son for taking away their sins, and for forgiving them, and then they finish the bread and wine/grapejuice/ribena(LOL) and walk out the door.
I believe there is SO much more we can thank God for.
1. The fulfillment of the 'burnt' offering or the Olah, in that through Yeshua we are purified not just from sinful acts but from our sinful natures and can therefore enjoy fellowship with our Daddy.
2. The fulfillment of the 'grain' offering or the Minchah, in that through Yeshuas death we offer up His sons body (the bread) as a tribute and gift to God, proclaiming our complete service to Him as His subjects and Him as our King.
3. The fulfillment of the 'peace' or 'fellowship' offering or the Zevah (zevah shelamim), in that through Yeshua we can ask God for anything, enjoy peace with one another and have the opportunity in our renewed relationship with God to thank Him for all Hes done for us and in our lives.
4. The fulfillment of the 'sin' offering in that through Yeshua we are cleared and forgiven for any sins which we didnt know we had or have committed.
5. The fulfillment of the 'guilt' offering in that through Yeshua we dont need to feel guilty for ANY sins committed after repentance because His blood covers over all.
6. The fulfillment of what I call the 'priestly offering' (found in Lev 6 and 7) in which Yeshua, as our High priest offered Himself for our sins thereby purifying us for service as priests in Gods kingdom.
7. The fulfillment of the day of atonement sacrifice or Yom Kippur, in which Yeshua became our scapegoat in bearing ALL our sins, willful and inadvertent, died, and entered into the holy of holies (Gods throne room in heaven itself) and completely atoned for all our sins, the effects of our sins, and the defilement of our sins to our bodies (the new temple), thereby making us pure and forgiven sons of God with pure and unstained bodies before Him.
8. The fulfillment of the Passover, in that through Yeshua, we are not only freed from our sin but also from the world. The israelites went from slavery to egypt into slavery to God, and they were freed, set apart and 'removed' from the egyptians (though they wouldve still had contact in trade etc), just like we have been taken from slavery to the world and to sin, and have entered into slavery to God, we have been freed from the worlds pleasures and desires, set apart from the worlds people and ways and removed from the world spiritually though not yet physically.
I could go on but I think thats enough, after all its just a cool little side note i wanted to share. By the way all the sacrifices I listed here are found in Leviticus 1-8 (i think) look em up if youre interested
