i was thinking the same thing but hey we're just little kids told to shut up and sit down :(

personally I think people are too caught up with their own pride and have harden their hearts because they are so sure they are RIGHT they don't bother to pray and ask GOD what is right, but anyways.

I'm going to find a good green meadow to frollick in....
That is an appropriate image for almost every thread. :)

you know I read through this whole thread and nothing about HOW Jesus would have us keep the sabbath or what it really means. Also Jesus spoke against some of the laws the Pharisees added concerning the Sabbath. they didn't want Him to heal but He pointed out people were circumcised during the Sabbath and How the Sabbath was made FOR MEN not Men for the Sabbath. no we don't have any talk about that. at least if this thread does I have over looked it. Also they were upset when Jesus healed a man and told him to get up and walk for he was not to be carrying his bedding during the Sabbath. You know what Jesus thought of such superficial rules and man-made laws

So what is the point of the Sabbath? to rest in the Lord and read His words and refresh ourselves to walk in obedience to Him through study and prayer. why is this important? well back then people acutally had to work for their food and not just go to supermarket for it. they had a lot less free time then we do now and could not daily take as much time as we do not contemplating the scriptures and making up fancy words and laws to make others obey.

so instead of saying "Should we keep the Sabbath?" why not answer "what does keeping the Sabbath truly involve?"

Jesus preached the Gospel, healed, fed His disciples and much more.

anyway the picture that comes to mind is this one because the Sabbath is a day of Rest and only God can give us that:

AnandaHya, for the most part, I have agreed and liked alot of what you say in your post. You seem to be sincere and truly seeking. Don't be a follower like Ciente, I've answered I think all questions you've asked, if not let me know. But this kind of chat for you is not in your character, so please don't lose that kindness approach on things you have. I'm not saying that because you may disagree with me on something. I don't care if people disagree with me, that's a part of life. But you have always come across as really nice. Don't lose that. Shalom

lol thank you Avinu.

I don't agree with a lot of things people post but I normally like to learn what others believe and will ask tons of questions. then I go in prayer to Our Heavenly Father and ask Him what is true, what is false and what I really need to know to be able to live life in a manner that will glorify His name.

could you condense it for me, what do you think people should do to honor God on the Sabbath day?

I listed the things I've learned: to rest and spend more time with God and doing the things God would have us do. to make it special so that we can be a testimony to the world and gather with fellow believers to worship Him.

This is the AnandaHya I've seen, lol. My only point, before everyone blew it out of the water, lol, is that God tells us to keep it. I don't if you read all the verses old and new T, that I gave for Sabbath, But in a nutshell Sabbath(not a day of our choosing) is to be set aside strictly for Him. It tells us to basically set aside ourselves and give it all to Him. Plus we are not to buy, sell, etc. I believe it's only as hard as we make it. Because if we truly love God and want to please Him(not for the sake of salvation) but to just please Him, then we would be willing to do whatever it takes and love doing it. I look forward to Sabbath every week. Does this make sense? lol Shalom, and Yah Bless.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hebrew Roots

Hebrew Roots FAQ's and Myths

Myth.

It is impossible to understand the Bible unless one uses a "Hebraic" mindset. Christians have a Greek mindset or western gentile mindset and therefore can't understand the true meaning of the Bible.

A.

Our understanding of Scripture is not dependant on anyone but the Holy Spirit. Since the majority of the New Testament is written for declaring Christ to all mankind and learning about Him, it would be foolish at best to suggest that Gentiles must think like someone else. The NT was written so that both Jews and Gentiles could understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ, first and foremost, and the need of salvation. God offered salvation to all mankind, which was what the prophets wrote about and waited for.
1 John 2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Matthew 13:17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Hebrews 11:13; 1Peter 1:10-11, Luke 24:44
Jeremiah 23:5-6 5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
2Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

1John 2:20-21 20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

1Co 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
1Co 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
If we can't understand the Scriptures or know it, we cannot wield it---it is spiritually discerned. And it doesn't say it requires thinking with a Hebraic mindset.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Frequently Asked Questions About Hebrew Roots : Hebrew Roots FAQ's and Myths
I dont know about anyone else, but my point wasnt that we wouldnt understand the bible without the hebrew mindset, but rather that we could have a richer, deeper knowledge of it. I believe the bible is beneficial, amazing and sufficient in ANY language/mindset after all it is Gods word but to get a real grasp on it and to deepen your relationship with God and what He was saying, i think reading it with a hebrew mindset is one way to get there.

Myth.

We need to go back to OUR Jewish Roots

A.

Many state and believe that this means that because Jesus was a Jew and followed Torah we must also. The Gentiles, who make a large part of the Messianic and Hebrew Roots movements are not Jewish. Therefore one cannot 'go back' to something that was not ours in the first place. There are Jews worldwide who find it an affront for Gentiles pretending to be Jewish, pretending to participate in what they feel are Jewish traditions and practices. In it is perhaps the ultimate anti-semitism, because the behaviors not only offend actual Jews, but Gentiles are known to be claiming to be the real Jews. That leaves those who are actual Jews as being imposters according to some within Hebrew Roots. We see then, that we have the doctrine of Jesus was Jewish being corrupted into being those within Hebrew Roots are the 'real Jews' and they are the ones having the only truth.

Christianity and Judaism are almost entirely different in beliefs, and those who do not understand that have become a stumbling block to Jews. Those within Judaism reject Jesus Christ, the New Testament and reinterpret prophecies and other Scriptures with that in mind, aside from the incorporation of the Talmud and Kabbalah by many. Judaism today is rabbinic Judaism. We cannot dismiss those facts. There are practicing Jews who have stated that those within Hebrew Roots and Messianics are straddling a fence with one foot in Judaism and one foot in Christianity. They urge that individuals make a choice on which they are actually going to follow, because it cannot be both.

We are followers of Jesus Christ who was God manifest in the flesh. And He brought a New Covenant that was unique.
Hebrews 3:1 Why, holy brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house. 3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who has built the house has more honor than the house.
4 For every house is built by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses truly was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
Hebrews 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

I dont believe in being a copycat, so I dont copy the jews, i simply appreciate and learn from their cultural and historical advantage when it comes to the Bible. I dont listen to rabbis and i very carefully weigh up what they with the Word but if they are both in agreement i dont shove the truth in my 'too hebrew for me' bin, i listen more and explore more. Im still young, and im still learning all this stuff but what im searching for is NOT talmudic or rabbinical judaism, im searching for God.

I think there is a balance to be achieved before falling into the legalism of judaism or seperating from the jews altogether. So heres what I believe. I believe the Jews were Gods chosen physical people who achieved salvation the same way we do, I believe they rejected God, I believe God then opened the door through Yeshua for gentiles to become spiritual NOT physical jews and be grafted INTO the tree of the jews. I believe I am a Jew, and therefore am under the Torah and Tanakh but not under the sacrifices as Yeshua was the one and only sacrifice needed, and not under the physical laws destined specifically for Isra'el and their culture in biblical times. I believe I come under the whole bible and especially the laws with spiritual context, destined for all peoples, in the OT. I believe the church hasnt replaced Isra'el and neither do I believe Isra'el is more important than the church, we are one being, one body, one tree with different roles.

So its because of my beliefs that I think a hebrew mindset when reading the Bible is a HUGE help and advantage, and that the sabbath should still be kept, seeing as its purpose wasnt cultural it was spiritual, it was to remember God as the Creator and to set aside a day to dwell on and with Him, and that it was intended for ALL people as history tells us (esp in that chart posted earlier) that even the pre-bible days, people were keeping Sabbath.

We need to go back to our jewish roots in that we go back to what we became a part of. When we chose to repent we inherited the history and beliefs of the Jews, and became jews. I dont believe I am a true Jew and Israelis arent or vice versa, I believe messianic jews and messianic gentiles are ALL true Jews.

Oh and can we PLEASE stop flaunting our ages on cc? I mean for goodness sake, so what if your physically older than others, there is NO NEED to humiliate them by calling them 'child' 'young man' or whatever. Its very prideful and quite frankly im getting sick of the negative attitude involved when people post that way.

I know Im not perfect and have posted in anger and sarcasm, but im working on it. Are you?

The jewish peoples culture and traditions are extremely important in finding out who our Saviour is and why He is needed, in my opinion. If you don't understand the jewish Passover how can you understand what Jesus did on the cross? If you don't understand why animals were sacrificed according to jewish tradition how can you understand that a sacrifice is necessary for the atonement of our souls? I'm not claiming to know all the jewish traditions but the ones I do know have blessed me in giving me more knowledge of my Saviour Jesus Christ.

God Bless You

Thankyou grandpa :) and you bring up an interesting point, the passover. Recently from reading the Torah Ive realised that there is a completely different concept we should be celebrating when it comes to communion. Communion in a way is our 'thanksgiving meal' we share with our Creator, ALOT like the priests eating some of the sacrifices after they were cooked.

When we eat of it we are thanking God for Yeshua being the completion of the sacrifices and other prophecies like the passover. Now what alot of christians today thank God for however is one sacrifice, the Yom Kippur (i think thats what its called), they thank God and His Son for taking away their sins, and for forgiving them, and then they finish the bread and wine/grapejuice/ribena(LOL) and walk out the door.

I believe there is SO much more we can thank God for.

1. The fulfillment of the 'burnt' offering or the Olah, in that through Yeshua we are purified not just from sinful acts but from our sinful natures and can therefore enjoy fellowship with our Daddy.
2. The fulfillment of the 'grain' offering or the Minchah, in that through Yeshuas death we offer up His sons body (the bread) as a tribute and gift to God, proclaiming our complete service to Him as His subjects and Him as our King.
3. The fulfillment of the 'peace' or 'fellowship' offering or the Zevah (zevah shelamim), in that through Yeshua we can ask God for anything, enjoy peace with one another and have the opportunity in our renewed relationship with God to thank Him for all Hes done for us and in our lives.
4. The fulfillment of the 'sin' offering in that through Yeshua we are cleared and forgiven for any sins which we didnt know we had or have committed.
5. The fulfillment of the 'guilt' offering in that through Yeshua we dont need to feel guilty for ANY sins committed after repentance because His blood covers over all.
6. The fulfillment of what I call the 'priestly offering' (found in Lev 6 and 7) in which Yeshua, as our High priest offered Himself for our sins thereby purifying us for service as priests in Gods kingdom.
7. The fulfillment of the day of atonement sacrifice or Yom Kippur, in which Yeshua became our scapegoat in bearing ALL our sins, willful and inadvertent, died, and entered into the holy of holies (Gods throne room in heaven itself) and completely atoned for all our sins, the effects of our sins, and the defilement of our sins to our bodies (the new temple), thereby making us pure and forgiven sons of God with pure and unstained bodies before Him.
8. The fulfillment of the Passover, in that through Yeshua, we are not only freed from our sin but also from the world. The israelites went from slavery to egypt into slavery to God, and they were freed, set apart and 'removed' from the egyptians (though they wouldve still had contact in trade etc), just like we have been taken from slavery to the world and to sin, and have entered into slavery to God, we have been freed from the worlds pleasures and desires, set apart from the worlds people and ways and removed from the world spiritually though not yet physically.

I could go on but I think thats enough, after all its just a cool little side note i wanted to share. By the way all the sacrifices I listed here are found in Leviticus 1-8 (i think) look em up if youre interested

Hebrews 4:9-11 There remains therfore a rest for the people of God. For he who hasentered His rest has himself also CEASED from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.
