Scott, you are making an arguement against God's own Word. Also, who said keeping Sabbath had anything to do with salvation, I really wish people would pay attention to what is written. So your whole arguement here is futile. And scripture says in the NT as I have it in the many verses put in the thread, Sabbath is a commandment, period. Shalom
Maybe the point is; to get the final Sabbath command figured out.

If anyone wants to dialogue with a former Sabbathkeeper who changed from that view, feel free to contact me through email here on christianchat.com.

I also have a lot of details regarding my assertions in my profile.

Sabbathkeepers generally fail to understand the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. Their reasoning sounds pretty good to those who are unacquainted with the faulty assumptions they are making.

I observed the Sabbath from about 1985, as a new Christian, to about 1995.

It's mostly a waste of time to argue with Sabbathkeepers concerning this issue. They are already indoctrinated into a worldview which is almost impossible to penetrate. They are convinced that they are the ones who know "the truth" and that everyone else is deceived.

I would suggest the book Sabbath in Christ by Dale Ratzlaff in this regard before wasting years with their nonsense, instead of focusing on Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice, and leading others to know Him. Most Sabbathkeepers do not have Him as their focus, but instead preach a mixture of Sabbath, festival, and clean/unclean meat observance.

In addition, the Sabbath/festival/clean unclean meat observance is usually only the tip of the iceberg with these guys. The cult I was involved with denied the Trinity, claimed they were going to be fully God in the resurrection, and denied the salvation of all other believers. They considered Sabbath-breaking to be the Mark of the Beast. Some challenge the full deity of Jesus Christ and the writings of the apostle Paul, and follow extra-biblical writings such as their prophet or prophetess or the Talmud.

Avinu!!!!!!!! How are ya! I bet you missed me didn't ya? That's ok. You don't have to admit it. I know you did! ;)

Ok, here is what I discovered from the NT.

Matthew 28:1 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb (Jesus rose from the grave on the first day of the week)...Also Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1, and John 20:1 all record where Jesus rose on the first day of the week.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were all written years after the actual events occurred and the writers would have already been participating in first century worship long before they picked up the inspired pen to jot these things down. So it is not without reason that they all mention that Jesus was resurrected upon the first day of the week. Yet at this point in our discussion we know not what that reason might be. But it would certainly be fitting to say that we meet upon the first day of the week because that was the day in which our Lord was raised.

We find that the preaching of the first gospel sermon and the terms of the entrance into the kingdom of God was upon the first day of the week. Acts 2 states that the apostles met together on the day of the Pentecost.
The day of Pentecost was fifty days after the Passover Sabbath according to Leviticus 23:15, 16. So fifty days later would be forty-nine days (seven weeks) plus one day. Seven weeks from the Sabbath would be on a Saturday, so the fiftieth day would be on a Sunday or the first day of the week. Acts 2:41,42 we read the following, "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."

There is also Acts 20:7 7 On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.

Revelation 1:10
10 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,

from the evidence that is contained within the scriptures we may come to the conclusion that early Christians worshipped upon the first day of the week. They partook of the Lord's supper upon the first day of the week. They gave of their means upon the first day of the week. This day came to be known as the Lord's day.

Am I making sense here?
Yes you are. Only if I may ask just one thing of you, on what day of the week did they begin counting the Omar?

If anyone is sincerely concerned with the Sabbath issue after being subjected to Sabbathkeeper rhetoric I highly suggest the book Sabbath in Christ by Dale Ratzlaff. It addresses the Seventh Day Adventist claims concerning Colossians 2:16-17. The portion on this is written by Old Testament scholar Jerry Gladson. There is a Seventh Day Adventist on the forums aggressively spamming threads advertising his own website claiming Sabbathbreaking will be the Mark of the Beast. I grew up in a family with a similar mentality and am aggressively against that sort of paranoid, uninformed mentality.

Anyways it is a PDF file and is 8.00. This is not my website. I am simply providing the link as I am concerned about Judaizer influences here.

Just provoking thought here. But some countries start their weeks on different days than others. Does it really matter which day one keeps the Sabbath? As long as it is always the 7th day from when they started work?

There are so many debates about Sabbath, when Scripture is so clear from front to back about what God wants us to do with it, in it and on it!

So instead of a bunch of my comments, I'm going to let God's Word do all the talking.

First the OT verses.

Exodus 16: 23,25-26,29 23)Then he said to them, " Then he said to them, "This is what the Lord has said; "Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a Holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.
25) Then Moses said, " Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field.
26) "Six days you shall gather it, but on the SEVENTH DAY, THE SABBATH DAY, there will be none."
29)"See! For the has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

Leviticus 16:31 It is a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a STATUTE FOREVER.
Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a Holy convocation. YOU SHALL DO NO WORK ON IT; it is THE Sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.
Leviticus 24:8 Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the Lord continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an EVERLASTING COVENANT.
Leviticus 25:4 But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard.

Deuteronomy 5:12 Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy, as the Lord your God COMMANDED YOU.

Nehemiah 13:15-18 15)In those days I saw people in Judah treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys with wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And I warned them about the day on which they wre selling provisions.
16) Men of Tyre dwelt there also, who brought in fish and all kinds of goods, and sold them on the Sabbath to the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
17) Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, "what evil thing is this that you do, by which you PROFANE THE SABBATH DAY?
18) Did not your fathers do thus, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring added wrath on Israel by PROFANING THE SABBATH."

Psalm 92 , whole chapter is a song for the Sabbath, wow a song for the Sabbath, that makes me think, Sabbath is special to God. Hmmmm, something to think about.

Isaiah 56: 2, 6 2) Blessed is the man who does this, And the son of man who lays hold on it; Who KEEPS FROM DEFILLING THE SABBATH, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.
6) Also the sons of the FOREIGNER who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him. And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants, Everyone who keeps from DEFILLING THE SABBATH, AND HOLDS FAST MY COVENANT.

NOW FOR THE NT VERSES.

Matt. 12:12 "Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

Mark 1:21 Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the Synagogue and taught.
Mark 15:42 Now when evening had come, because it was the PREPARATION DAY, that is, the day before the Sabbath.

Luke 4:16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His CUSTOM was , He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Luke 4:31 Then He went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the SABBATHS.
Luke 13:10 Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
Luke 23:56 Then they returned and prepared spices and fragrant oils. And they RESTED on the Sabbath ACCORDING TO THE COMMANDMENT.

Acts 13:42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the GENTILES BEGGED that these words might be preached to them the NEXT SABBATH.
Acts 15:21 "For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.
Acts 17:2 Then Paul, as his CUSTOM was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures.
Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded the jews and the greeks.

There are even more, so we see here, that Sabbath is just as relevant in the NT as in the OT. It has not gone away or changed as some would believe. It is a commandment for all to keep. We have no excuses.

Shalom, Avinu
It the O.T. it was a physical Sabbath, in the N.T. it is a spiritual Sabbath. When it was changed under Christ, not everyone knew. They still celebrated it. Paul went there during that time, but not to participate. It was mentioned to describe the time frame.

Under Moses God's law was done physically. Under Christ it is done spiritually. You cannot follow both laws at the same time- that's commiting religious adultery (Romans 7:1-4).

The Bible says if you obey a law that you must obey all of that law. If you obey Moses instead of Christ, you have to take certain sinners outside the city and stone them, pay for certain things with certain animals, oh and good luck finding a high priest to sacrifice on your behalf, seeing as he'd have to be over 2,017 years old.

I'm not trying to sound rude, I'm just telling you like it is. I remember when I learned this truth, and now I share it with you.

The idea that "every day" is Holy is a fallacy. The Bible declares only one day Holy that day is the Sabbath Day - see Ex. 20:11. Further, it is the only day God asks us to keep Holy.
