None of what I say is to scare anyone. Concern yes. To scare no. It is just reality. I dont know all the national facts. But local facts are ugly.

If any form of government, being it city, state, or national establishes a law that says it is against the law to assemble for the purpose of worshiping God, it would be contrary to the constitution of the United States. If the Preacher who was arrested and put in jail in Florida was to file a lawsuit, He would win. What do you think?
I think pastors who don't obey the shelter in place rules are as crazy as Jim Jones. Along with those who listen to them.

I am in agreement that it is a good suggestion not to assemble in large groups, But it is still unconstitutional to restrict groups from meeting together for the purpose of praising and honoring God. Heb 10:25, Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much more, as ye see the day approaching. Acts 5:27-29, And when they had brought them, they set them before the council, and the high priest ask them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Then Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than man.

I understand the seriousness of the virus, but I also know that the constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." If the people choose not to meet together, that is their rightful choice, but if the government arrests you for attending a worship service, it is against the constitution of the United States.
suppose my neighbor is blasting polka music on his stereo at 2am, and there's a noise ordinance.
suppose i get upset and start blasting gospel music out my own window.
suppose another neighbor alerts the police -- when they come and give us both fines, am i being religiously persecuted?

I am NOT...repeat...NOT....hanging off the TV and shuddering in fear

I will use the expression again..COMMON SENSE

common sense alone should tell a person to stay home when they have any illness that is contagious

It was not against the law to assemble for the purpose of worshiping God, it was against the law to assemble, period. I believe that all the corona regulations to inhibit spread of the virus may come under the martial law provisions in the US Constitution

The preacher would lose in the US Supreme Court. What the preacher did was reckless and needlessly increased the risk of those in attendance of transmitting and becoming infected with the virus. Those in attendance were foolish to attend and by their actions may transmit the virus to those they come into contact with in public.

I don't like these restrictions either but do know that they are temporary, necessary, and for the good of the public. This too shall pass.

exactly

common sense

national security cannot override the 1st amendment.
by our nation's laws, yes, it can.

if i divulge state secrets as though a spy, or if i violate any non-disclosure agreement, i'm not covered by 'free speech' -- you can be jailed or fined for inciting a riot any day of the week, or for trespassing, or printing libel / defamation of character, 1st amendment notwithstanding.

quarantine restrictions are not directly targeting churches; they involve all kinds of gatherings.

Reminds me of a anecdote of my life.
Had my neighbors kids shouting blasphemes and making fun of me one nice summer evening.. they were crazy loud and evil. So I got my stero, put the box out of the window for a few hrs blasting cotton eye joe on repeat...it cured em

Why couldn't they assemble virtually?

this right here is a discussion i think we ought to be having

thousands of churches are streaming services now over the internet, either live or pre-recorded, for congregations that are normally meeting together.

does this still count as 'church' or is it imperative that we meet 'in the flesh' and have proximal physical contact?
we have a great advantage today compared with the last time the nation went through something like this - 1918/19, the so-called 'Spanish' flu
we can instantly communicate with each other virtually; we can even have hundreds of people in video-chat with each other at the same time. we can sing and hear each other singing too; we can talk and interact, we can listen and read all without actually being next to each other in the flesh.

no one is restricting churches from teleconferencing. no one is shutting down facebook streams or sermonaudio.
should we be thanking God for this?
or does this leave something missing?
is laying on of hands & physically eating of the same bread & drinking of the same cup something necessary?

Quarantine is for sick, not healthy. See Tuberculosis.
my co-worker's two children live in NYC. both tested positive and quarantined. one was briefly hospitalized but recovered, the other never showed any symptoms at all - was only tested because she had been in contact with her brother, who fell ill.

you may not even realize that you are full of, and spreading sickness. see plankeye.

What constitutes a better testimony for Christ? Setting an example and not holding meetings as the government declares or resisting government and later being seen as a source of the virus spreading?

Each must act according to their conscious before the Lord. I'm not concerned so much with Christians dying but if they infect unbelievers who die and enter into eternal condemnation well that's a problem. Believers die and go into the presence of Christ but unbelievers die and enter into eternal condemnation.

Which is the better testimony?

For the cause of Christ
