18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.
not "like" animals.

indeed, animals.

Ecclesiastes 3:18
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

But a human has a benefit above animals spiritually for they can be with God.
what in the world makes you think the other living souls can't be with God?
they don't even sin, but we do!

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
how can you quote that and then say this?

All spirits go back to God no matter how they behave on earth but animal spirits go downward and not to Him.
all animals are living souls. the creation was subjected to frustration not because of its own, but for Adam's sake.

a squirrel's spirit is not dust, it is spirit. the body is dust, and it will be resurrected. if it is sown a natural body, it will be raised a spiritual body.

Isaiah chapter 6. Animals will be in heaven. Lion will be harmless. There in spiritual body, not flesh. Ezekiel chapter 1. There were port holes in the vehicle that transported God from heaven to earth. Point is. People were in the circular vehicle. Nothing complicated. Animals, and people will co exist together.

King James Version
Eccl 3:19-21
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Living Bible

Eccl 3:19-21
For men and animals both breathe the same air, and both die. So mankind has no real advantage over the beasts; what an absurdity! All go to one place—the dust from which they came and to which they must return. For who can prove that the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of animals goes downward into dust?
It is personally between God and you, wherever anyone goes once die.
We can live presently daily as are already dead, Romans 6 in believe sets one free if one will not quit, will you? it is between God and you not me or anyone else, thank you

Living Bible
Romans 8:16

For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we really are God’s children.

Authorized (King James) Version

Romans 8:16

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Luke chapter 16. Jesus decides what side of the Gulf people go. Righteous to paradise. The wicked and spiritually dead go to sheol.

therefore what really matters? Belief or Unbelief to risen Son for us to get saved by Father through Son's done work as if one never sinned once?

1 john chapter 3:8. Habitual simners. They won't repent and suppress the truth, Romans chapter 1. Classification is reprobates/wicked. 1 john 1:7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and blood of Jesus Christ His son cleans us from all sin. 1:8 . If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1:6. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, do not the truth.
2 Corinthians 13::5
Examine yourself, whether ye be in the faith, prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be Reprobates ? Peace.

It means that if there is no God, then everything is meaningless, because humans suffer the same fate as animals, but since no one knows for sure what happens after death and we all walk by faith regarding this issue, it is wise to believe/hope a loving God exists, who provides meaning and salvation from death.

Yes, examine self, believe, receive and see new in Father’s Spirit and Truth. John 4:23-24. Christ is risen, where new life is given. The one time death is over, we are reconciled to either believe God in Son as risen for us or not
die daily to self and this world of corruption, is what I am now seeing to do daily, understanding the flesh is not redeemed.
love to Father first, is personally between each person and God for sure. Where the children get taught new by God personally. These seeto love all, not just those that love them back, at least me thanks love all, as is done by son going to that cross willingly to save us in his resurrection

The writer is simply bemoaning the state of the world as he sees it. He doesn't know the answer to his questions so no, it is not detailing what happens when a person dies.
it is after all a question - "who knows?"

and the answer to the question is God.
