"Some redefine the fear of God for believers to “respecting” Him. While respect is definitely included in the concept of fearing God, there is more to it than that. A biblical fear of God, for the believer, includes understanding how much God hates sin and fearing His judgment on sin—even in the life of a believer. Hebrews 12:5-11 describes God’s discipline of the believer. While it is done in love (Hebrews 12:6), it is still a fearful thing. As children, the fear of discipline from our parents no doubt prevented some evil actions. The same should be true in our relationship with God. We should fear His discipline, and therefore seek to live our lives in such a way that pleases Him."

Yes and no. We should fear not experiencing God's discipline as it is evidence of being born again. Discipline is not the same as punishment. Discipline is a positive thing as well as negative. The best athletes are not always the most gifted. The athlete who trains hard and follows the advice of his coach may well outperform the talented but lazy individual. I play the guitar. I'm not very good. The difference between me and a good player is mostly a matter of practice and studying music principles. It's hard work and I'm not motivated enough.

Discipline can be as simple as making good choices. I played table tennis at a very low level. I wanted to improve, so I practiced and trained. It started to take over my life. I had to decide what was more important, my Christian life or sport. I gave up table tennis. Oddly, I did not miss it. That is the grace of God. If I had continued playing, I may have suffered an injury or something that would have gained my attention. God always gives us the easy way first! I am not very good at choosing the easy way.

I don't try to change the meaning of the word fear to "respecting" Fearing God is fearing God..

The scripture which says::
(Proverbs 9:10) "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
It truth.. But note the important word i have in bold and underlined..

The fear of God is the Beginning of wisdom but is it the end or is it meant to be continuous?

We read the next scripture::
(1 John 4:15-19) "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. {16} And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. {17} Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. {18} There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. {19} We love him, because he first loved us."

So while the fear of God motivates a person to seek the will of God once one ends up understanding the will of God the revelation of the Love of God removes that fear and one comes to know the peace of mind that comes by knowing Jesus..
