Give us truth.....

You allege that tongues had not ceased. (which tongues is another question)

But,... here you go.

If God snapped his fingers, and made tongues cease today.
What would happen to the church?...
MOST of the "Visible Church" wouldn't even notice.

God has called me to be a prophet, but I don't understand the point of it.
Then God hasn't called you to be a "Prophet" at all. What makes you thing you are one????

THE POINT IS: "Prophesy" is GOD SPEAKING TO PEOPLE something that HE WANTS THEM TO HEAR.

Who are you to judge God's WISDOM, message, or timing????

Edgar Cayce was a prophet.
Was he a prophet of God is another story.

Just like pagans speak in tongues, does not make speaking in tongues today being of God.
It's a real experience. Only accepting what the Word of God actually says will keep us from deception...
Not all are deceived....

I speak in tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit. Light and darkness don't mix. Anyone who is saved can seek the empowering of the Holy Spirit to be a witness of the Resurrected Lord. Those who ask the Lord receive what they are asking for. They don't get a devil

Jesus said in Luke 11:13

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

Correct!
And, that is why the Word of God instructs Christians to stay away from divisive persons who are having a form of godliness.

Anyone who is saved can seek the empowering of the Holy Spirit to be a witness of the Resurrected Lord. Those who ask the Lord receive what they are asking for. They don't get a devil
We are not supposed to ask for the gift of tongues!

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message
of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another
gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy,
to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,
and to still another, the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same
Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."
1 Corinthians 12:8-11

If God did not determine and choose to give you a gift?

You do not ask for it! He knows better than you do who gets what!

Jesus said in Luke 11:13

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"
Jesus was speaking to those who were yet Jews!
Not to the Church! You need to rightly divide the Word of God!

Before the Church age, Jews who were born again had no indwelling of the Holy Spirit given at regeneration.
If asked? God could give enabling power for a task assigned them.
I am sure there were many Jews who asked for Samson's gift - and never received it!

Try asking God for the gift of pastor-teacher?
Evangelist? Those gifts also God gives without a person asking for them.

Now, try to ask the Devil for tongues? Not seeing the Devil as you do?
Now, that's another story.
Especially, when the devil comes as an angel of light!

For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. "
2 Corinthians 11:13-14

I ask you?

Where are these masquerading as apostles of Christ today in the church? Nowhere?
You will know them by the false doctrine they promote!

Sometimes, I do not like what I have to do.
This is one of them...

Jesus to the disciples in Acts 1: 8

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Paul said in 1cor chapter 12 through 14

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that[a] you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Then he goes on to say :

chapter 14:1-5 where the context continue from chap[ter 12 and 13

14 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

Nowhere in the text did Paul say NOT to speak in tongue or it was wrong to desire to speak in tongues or any of then Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Notice verse 5 that tongues and interpretation = edification, the same as Prophesying.

I never said one is to desire speaking in tongues, but all who have been empowered have either spoken in tongues or Prophesied by the empowering of the Holy Spirit.

I thank the Lord for all his gifts, which are not greater than salvation.

Here. My Facebook. Another prophetic dream fulfilled. Today is my birthday and Hassan Nasrallah has been targeted by Israel in Beirut over a month after a prophetic dream I had.

Posted on 8/6/2024

Had a dream the other night I forgot to write down.
A man was walking through my home, and he had a rifle pointed at the back of another man's head, forcing him to go wherever he wanted him too. He made the other man to leave my house, and I asked him why he was doing that. He said he was military, and it was war. I said, I understand that terrible things happen during war, but what is your purpose for doing so. Like, why are you doing these evil things.
He didn't give me an answer, but I then heard someone say, "Beirut."
That's all I remember.

Had a dream the other night I forgot to... - Jon Christian Minor | Facebook
Here's one for people who don't think the Lord sends me prophetic dreams. This is timestamped on my Facebook with a link to an unedited post to see the Lord sent me this dream in advance.

If you scroll down my Facebook page, you'll see a post and I commented on this dream:

I was told it would be helpful if I explained my prophetic dreams. I can only explain them after the fact, but I will tell you why the recent one is so significant.

Jared Kushner said this yesterday: "September 27th is the most important day in the Middle East since the Abraham Accords breakthrough."

September 27th will be remembered as a historical day of tremendous significance in the history of the Israel as they killed one of their major enemies in the region, Hassan Nasrallah. It was also my birthday.

So what? The odds of this day happening on my birthday are 1 in 365. It could have happened on anyone's birthday.

On August 5th, the Lord gave me a prophetic dream which I posted on Facebook August 6th. The crux of this dream was to watch for "Beirut" during a war. I Googled "How many cities are there in the world?" And the answer was that there are over 10,000 cities in the world.

On my birthday, September 27th, the city of Beirut was in the headline of every major news outlet on Earth because Israel killed Hassan Nasrallah on this date in this city.

Now, let's say I'm a man the Lord has called to prophesy. I travel the country prophesying, telling people what the Lord is going to do to the USA. I wrote a book about prophecy. I have prophetic dreams. What are the odds the Lord would give me a dream about this particular city and that it would be in the news headlines around the world on my birthday? The bare minimum odds of this happening are (days in a year) 1/365 x (cities on Earth) 1/10,000 = 1 in 3,650,000. Factor in that the dream was given to me of all people: 1 in 8 billion.

From a purely mathematical standpoint, do you understand the odds of this being "just a coincidence" are extremely low?

Why would the Lord give me this dream? I'd say it is so people will listen and prepare themselves for what He plans to do in the future: destroy the USA. You need to amend your life and prepare your soul to meet our Lord Jesus Christ. Do it very soon and continue in it. "He that endures unto the end shall be saved." -Jesus

You speak tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit.
And, then you turn around and quote Jesus saying he will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
We do not ask the Father to give us the Holy Spirit.
If you are truly born again, you were given the Holy Spirit when you believed.
The Holy Spirit gives us the power to know God's Word and to become transformed in doing so.

You just wanted power?

Yes, I did say I speak in tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit, and Yes Jesus is the baptized in the Holy Spirit as John 1:33

I myself did not know him, but [God] who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

You don't ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit, but Jesus said we can, as Luke 11:13 states. Jesus speaking.

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Yes, I am Born again. You are not suggesting I am not, are you? You clearly don't see everything in scripture that the Holy Spirit does.

If you read the Gospel of John, chapters 14 through 16, you will see Jesus tell us what the Holy Spirit will do, known as the "Comforter."

John 14:16
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

JOhn 14: 17
“the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 15:26

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

John 16: 7-8

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

“And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Some refuse to see that the Holy Spirit does far more than Convict a person of sin and enable them to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ

I did not say, "You shall receive power After the Holy Spirit has come upon you to be my witnesses."

It was the Lord Jesus who said that. If we read the Word of God the Holy Spirit who is God Has not changed what he has done or do.

He now has been poured out on all Flesh men and women, not just Kings, Prophets, Judges, and rulers and priests. as Joel chapter 2 states, and

Peter quoted on the day of Pentacost. " This is that" concerning what the Prophet Joel said.

The Holy Spirit comes upon and lives within the believer. The Holy Spirit comes into the believer to bear witness to the truth that they are saved. The Holy Spirit comes upon a person to empower, equip, and edify the body of Christ.

as Jesus said in John chapters 14, 15 , and 16, and Paul teaches from the Lord found in 1cor Chapters 12, 13, and 14. and in Eph chapter 4:7-13.

As we are saved, we now are in the Sanctification process and are learning to walk in the Spirit as Gal 5:16-25

The idea the Holy Spirit, as you say,:

"The Holy Spirit gives us the power to know God's Word and to become transformed in doing so."

That is all the Holy Spirit does?

let see in the word of God again what does the Holy Spirit actually do today:

The Holy Spirit's work is to glorify Jesus Christ and make him real in the lives of believers. The Holy Spirit's work includes:

Conviction: The Holy Spirit convinces unbelievers of the truth of the gospel.

Salvation: The Holy Spirit applies salvation to individuals, uniting them with Christ and placing them in the church.

Transformation: The Holy Spirit transforms believers into new creations through their faith and repentance.

Empowerment: The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live the life that Jesus died to give them.

Guidance: The Holy Spirit provides guidance to the church, such as where to go and who to address.

Comfort: The Holy Spirit comforts believers, such as when they experience persecution for preaching the gospel.

Spiritual gifts: The Holy Spirit provides spiritual gifts to the church.

Love: The Holy Spirit sheds the love of God into believers' hearts.

All those long-winded words can not nullify the following...

1 Corinthians 12:8-11

For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another
the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by
the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the
working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish
between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation
of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, distributing to
each one individually, just as He wills.
The only thing we can ask for is wisdom (James 1:5 ) so we can know how to live with the gifts
That HE HAD DETERMINED for each believer to have. You are to never ask for a gift.

Tongues churches I have seen sell the idea like cookies for kids.

It's funny that you call others "long-winded" when you do the same thing.

Again short and sweet for you:

Jesus said in John chapters 14 through 16 the Holy Spirit will be with you and in you. He will come upon you. 1cor Chapters 12 through 14 list the " Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which we are told to desire. No one is saying or suggesting.

You are trying to create a strawman and false narrative that I can demand or claim a gift without the Holy Spirit's approval. Will all speak in tongues? No, but can all do so as the Holy Spirit gives the ability? YES!, just like he did on the Day of Pentacost, all spoke in tongues.

you like to cherry-pick too :

oops you forgot to continue in Chapter 12:30

30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

Who is Paul speaking to that are to Earnestly DESIRE the best gifts? The Church those in the church setting.

What is the Greek understanding of "Desire the best Gifts'?Does that mean Tongues are not to be desired?

Best means= krite'-tohn, which is asking for the needed gifts or best to get the job done. If one needs healing, desire, and ask and seeks for heating, Tongues are not that gift; Prophesying is not that gift. FYI, Paul said much more contextually in chapter 14 about specific gifts, like it or not.

You, like the rest of the Pentecostal ilk are but claiming a physical supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit which you should have evidence of but do not. This shows an irreverence toward the Holy Spirit and guilt of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. This goes for all who claim but have no physical evidence of their physical claim.

I know this is my first thread, but I came to this site to ask people's opinions.

God has called me to be a prophet, but I don't understand the point of it. What good is it to know what is going to happen? What good is it to tell people what's going to happen?

When I do tell people what is going to happen, they don't believe me and they come up with any explanation they can to say that what God has shown me will happen won't happen.

Deuteronomy 18:21,22 gives the test of a prophet: "[SUP]21 [/SUP]You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” [SUP]22 [/SUP]If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed." I will pass that test when what God has shown me comes to pass. The only problem is that when what I say comes to pass, there will not be anyone alive or on this forum to verify it.

Even the most devout Christians on this forum will not be able to accept what I have to say. God is going to do a thing so great and terrible that you cannot even fathom it, let alone accept it. And again I ask, what good is it for me to tell anyone? I fear, and think I know deep down in my heart, that God has raised me up to be the unheard prophet: a raving madman preaching from the street corner about what He is going to do and that no one will listen or heed my warning. And then it will be too late.
1 Cor 14: 23-33
If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth. How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1 Cor 14: 37-40
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.
