Most scholars and translators state that Mark 16:16-18 does not even appear in the earliest manuscripts.

Here is an example of what they know...

How would someone who in the future will be told by the Lord... "I never knew you."

How would they react now, when shown that tongues were a sign of pending judgement
that was to come upon the Jews refusing to believe in Christ?
Which judgement, finally, was made manifest in 70AD?

In the Law it has been written:
By other tongues, and by other lips, I will speak to this people,
(this people = specifically speaking about Jews)...
And not even then they will not listen to Me, says the Lord. 1 Cor 14:21

It says that they (the unbelieving Jews) would not listen to Him.
Like Pharaoh refused to heed the signs God gave him, the Jews also refused to heed the sign of tongues.

So what happened?

In 70 AD, Titus led the Roman army into Jerusalem, destroying it, and it's Temple.

From that point on? What was to happen?
God was no more needing to provide a sign of pending judgement to those who would refuse to believe.

Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers. 1 Cor 14:22a

And.... those today who fail to rightly handle the word of God? They will end up deceived like the woman
in the Garden was who listened to the devil's lying and pursued false doctrine.

It could not be made more plain than I just did.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid.

Proverbs 12:1

Amen ........

Everyone reading this thread and is understanding what is being explained could be used as witnesses against those hating to be corrected...

Maybe God will call them as witnesses when the one who refused correction will still be looking for a way to justify his own erroneous actions and choice.

Sometimes God allows for things to seemingly drag on ....

Who do you think you are?

It's the Word of God that had been showing you correction.

In the meantime, you have been revealing a typical mindset of those who speak in tongues.
How you can not properly analyze and think straight with the Word of God.

The following was not GeneZ 14:21-22a
You can't think straight and you are acting like I wrote it.
It is 1 Corinthians 14:21-22a - - not GeneZ 14:21-22a.

The way you can not think clearly was the main reason when I was younger that I first became leery of the tongues crowd.

This mindset is contrary to the very word of GOD.

Joel 2 doesn't support that. Which Peter Quoted in Acts 2

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: (nations) and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

You don't know the word of God guy.

Putin has clarified Russia's nuclear deterrence to include the use of nuclear weapons in the event that a "Non-nuclear state [e.g., Ukraine] with participation or support of a nuclear state [e.g., USA/UK/France] propose as their joint attack on the Russian Federation. We will consider this possibility upon receiving reliable information about a massive launch of air and space attack weapons [satellite-guided] and their crossing of our state border - I mean strategic and tactical aircrafts, cruise missiles, drones, hypersonics, and other aircraft [e.g., British Storm missiles, USA ATACMS]."

Here. My Facebook. Another prophetic dream fulfilled. Today is my birthday and Hassan Nasrallah has been targeted by Israel in Beirut over a month after a prophetic dream I had.

Posted on 8/6/2024

Had a dream the other night I forgot to write down.
A man was walking through my home, and he had a rifle pointed at the back of another man's head, forcing him to go wherever he wanted him too. He made the other man to leave my house, and I asked him why he was doing that. He said he was military, and it was war. I said, I understand that terrible things happen during war, but what is your purpose for doing so. Like, why are you doing these evil things.
He didn't give me an answer, but I then heard someone say, "Beirut."
That's all I remember.

I lived in Israel the summer of 1968.
I attended an American college in Jerusalem.

Before going to Israel, I was given a dream and was shown a young woman.
When I got to the college one of the students was that woman.

Would you call that prophetic?

Possibly.

Could also be wishful thinking, a lie, of the occult, false memory etc.

Keep that thought in mind as to how it might apply to those who today claim to be prophets.
Especially after the Bible tells us the prophesies were to end.

1 Corinthians 13:8-10

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues,
they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and
we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

That passage is there to protect us from deceptions that God knew would come our way.

Years ago on my birthday, a friend drove over to see me, and told me to get in the car.
She began driving to a town, and then into a residential area.

She stopped in front of a house. I asked her what was going on.
She told me she was giving me a birthday gift. I was going to have a psychic reading.

Its was s simple arrangement. I sat at a table with a young woman concentrating about me.
She began to list off a bunch of things about my life and relatives... Some were scary on target.

To make a long story short. She missed one thing as a prediction which was a major one.

Demons are like flies on the wall.
They will listen in and know what is said in private and detect what tomorrow has in store for the world.

That is why the Word of God protects those who obey it and do not find ways to fight it.

The word perfect could also speak in reference to something becoming fully mature.

Ever see a chef adding and tasting something he has on the stove,..... then suddenly stops adding things, and says..."perfect!"
The rule of hermeneutics of the immediate context speaks of "that which is perfect" is when he sees face to face. 12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
So taking this into consideration the author is speaking about a state of perfection that he does not yet have but will obtain and when it happens he will know at the same level that he is known. The most logical explanation of authorial intent is that Paul is speaking about the same thing he was speaking about when he said he would be PERFECT when he was resurrected from the dead in Philippians 3.
10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

So using another rule of hermeneutics, we look at where else the author has spoken about a coming perfection and we see that Paul viewed the resurrection of the dead to be that state when he will finally OBTAIN this perfection. And of course in that state he would see God face to face and KNOW even as he is known. In that perfect post resurrection state he truly would have obtained complete maturity.

So you see by using the rules of interpreting scripture that the author is not referring to the "second coming of Jesus" as though he were calling Jesus "that which is perfect" nor was he referring to the completion of the canon of New Testament scriptures, because he never says anything about himself or any other saint becoming perfect once John completed the book of Revelation, but rather that STATE of Perfection promised to all the saints, when we are either changed in the twinkling of an eye and rise and meet the Lord in the air, or rise from the graves in our resurrected state. Until then we need the gifts of the Spirit to assist us in all of the benifits that Christ intended in giving them to the church.

Why then bother to tell us tongues will cease? Prophecy will become silenced?

And, Jesus admonished us to be perfect as the Father is perfect?

Why then bother to tell us tongues will cease?
Because we will not need the gifts of the Spirit that operate in the assembly like tongues, and prophesy in our perfect state of full knowledge. Today we sometimes need a confirmation or exhortation, edification, edification that comes from these gifts, but then we will have graduated to a more perfect state where we know all things.

You are however correct about the sign of tongues for unbelievers being a rebuke to the unbeliever. Many mistake Pauls statement as though he were saying unbelievers become believers when they see the gift of tongues. But Paul actually meant that those who reject it will have no excuse in the day of judgment when they think to say "Why didn't you show us a sign? We would have beleived if you showed us a sign!" Tongues and all the gifts of the Spirit that people reject as "fake" and mock and ridicule might be eating their words at the Bema Seat of Christ. I think there will be those who are still saved though they fought hard to turn away people from believing in 1st century gifts for today, because they were so convinced that they were trying to help people, but they will suffer loss as all of their efforts will be considered wood, hay and stubble with no reward.

So I would encourage you to not take a stand against the gifts of the Spirit, and take on a self acclaimed call to "correct" those that you think are ignorant, but rather allow every man to be convinced in their own mind by using the rules of hermeneutics, and as sure as you are about your views, others might be even better than you at presenting their views using proper interpretation of scripture. Stay open to learn and keep studying all of the scriptures on this subject. And then leave room for differences of opinion, and let every man be thuroughly convinced in his own mind as we all have to answer to the Lord that we were obedient to the illumination and light from the scripture for ourselves. And God knows the heart.
