Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

and what is the doctrine of Christ? to believe in Him, and love one another?

you can selectively edit Scripture all you want, but those of us who know the truth will not fall for it.

Everything that Christ taught.

The Lord taught His disciples in order for them to teach their disciples.

Everything His disciples taught came from Christ; His teaching, His word, His doctrine.

This is why we are to obey Jesus Christ as Lord, because by obeying the Gospel, we now have Jesus as our Lord.

Satan is no longer our lord, because we have turned to Christ in obedience to the Gospel, and thus we have turned away from Satan as our ruler, master, lord, and king.

Those who obey Christ and His doctrine have Jesus as their Lord.

Those who obey Christ, but later begin to obey sin and self and Satan again, no longer have Jesus as their Lord.

16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. Romans 6:16-17

  • Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey,

  • though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine

Here are some scriptures for you to consider.

He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:3

Again

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 2:15

again

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
1 John 2:24-25

again

24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24

The way we abide, remain, continue to dwell in Him is by keeping His commandments.

15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

If you believe that Salvation is conditional then say and state the condition
John 3:7
Mark 16:16
Just 2 right off the top of my head

Makes one think about what Jesus meant in John 3:7 wherein it is written, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The word again is a bad translation, The word in the greek is an'othen which actually means from above. So when reading like it is in the manuscripts it reads
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born from above.
Letting us know that the only way we can achieve salvation, is the angel's ( who have a spiritual body ) must take on the flesh, Just like God did through Christ.
I Corinthians 15:42-54
We had to be born into corruption so we could put on incorruption, The angels in Jude chose not to and so now they have no chance at salvation. Then you would be correct, Because of Christ also took on corruption and overcame, now he gives freely and we also can now have salvation.
It may seem like I'm splitting hairs, but it is conditional.

Now, this is where it gets interesting, all souls ( that's all an angel is a soul that God sent as a messenger ) had a chance to choose of there own free will to come to this earth age through the womb of women, being born from above, whereby taking on flesh and blood, except five. These five had no choice in the matter.
Now, also we know according to Jude there were some who chose of there own free will not to do that, and that was there unforgivable sin. and those are who we are fighting against now, those are the principalities and powers in high places. ( there were others along the way but they were the first, ).
The Geber who came through the offspring of the angels is another story for another time.

What must one do to be saved.

I believe God decides who will be saved and who won't.

There are many scriptures which support the view that we don't decide to believe in Christ, but faith in Christ is a gift that God gives only to His elect.

Most folks don't agree with the doctrine of predestination/election, because many other scriptures say things like you must obey and remain faithful to the end etc...

These two opposing views have been debated for centuries, so today we have the benefit of many good good books on the subject but have we arrived at a consensus in the Church.

I would love to see the Church unite and resolve this dividing issue. But I fear that it will continue to be an enigma for the Church. Why can't we let the Bible be the final authority and accept what it really says and unite in the truth.
It all comes down to how a person understands the scriptures regarding salvation. You can use scripture to support both views.

Regeneration is that change in the person that occurs when God indwells him and makes him a new creature (John 3:3-8; 14:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17). The question is when does it occur, before or after faith. Within Christian theology, there has been a wide variety of disagreements on this topic, but the two basic camps of thought are Arminian and Calvinist.

Generally speaking, in the Arminian camp regeneration comes after faith. In the Calvinist camp, regeneration comes before faith.
Arminians assert that we must believe in order to become Christians and when we become Christians we are regenerated. Calvinists assert that a person is not able to believe of his own free will because of the doctrine of total depravity (that his free will is a slave of sin). Therefore, in the Calvinist camp regeneration precedes faith.

and what are the commandments?? believe in the name of the Son and love one another. chapter 3 of the same letter from the same man that you just quoted.

I am by no means supporting sin, I am supporting the proper use of Scripture.

His Commandments are about Loving God and Loving your neighbor.

Breaking the commandments is hating your neighbor and hating God.

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5:21-22

  • This is what Jesus taught: The doctrine of Christ.
  • Everything that Jesus taught is about Love.
  • Loving God, and Loving our neighbor.

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

again

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

If we don't love our brother, then we hate. Those who hate are as murderers.

27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matthew 5:27-30

If we are lusting after our neighbors wife, then that is not loving our brother, that is hating our brother.

  • Committing adultery with our brother's wife is hating our brother.

Christ taught us to love God and love our brother.

  • If we disregard, ignore, disobey this teaching, this doctrine of loving God and loving our brother, whereby we transgress it and instead we hate of brother, then we are not abiding in Christ, nor are we abiding in His doctrine.

Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:24

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:6

The way we love God and love our brother, is to obey His doctrine, Obey His commandments.

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

So your belief caused your salvation?

What activated my faith was to believe the Gospel message, which means obeying the Gospel message.

If you like, I can explain what the Gospel Message is, and what it means to obey it, and why the faith we receive when we hear God, must be activated or it is dead, dormant, inactive, and unable to produce the intended diving result.

You silly Kids tricks are for Lucifer. It doesn't matter what we say or do. God has a plan. it is being worked even as we speak or communicate. If you were born into this world then you qualify to use your free will. Read above post, the elect already made their decision and already chosen, Hence the reason they are the elect. Not because they are better than anybody else. The rest of us will have to go through the millennium. then we use free will. Remember Lucifer deceived 1/3rd of the angels when exactly do you think he did this, Christians can't even agree on what the bible says. How do non-Christians stand a chance?

So your belief caused your salvation?
Logical fallacy. What caused man to sin? Certainly not God. A man believes because he hears the word of God both written and incarnate. The Holy Spirit ministers in the heart and brings conviction of sin, righteousness and judgment. Until sin becomes personal no man is able to see a reason to repent and receive Christ as Savior.

Adam chose to sin. Man is able to choose to receive Christ. Some cling to their sin and self righteousness more than others but all who believe receive the gift of eternal life. Not earned or merited but because God had mercy on all that they might repent. The goodness of God not the goodness of men lead them to repent.

Actually you can use Scripture to prove election, predestination -- that God chose, or you can misuse it to fight against it.
Charles Spurgeon is considered to be the Prince of preachers. I wouldn't argue with him, and you make a very good point. The scriptures can be misused to support a false belief. So we need to handle the Word of God with great care, we should always pray that God would help us understand the true context of the particular scriptures we are studying.

There's a mine field of different views on this issue of election or free choice.

I actually pretty much agree with this.

now, as long as you stay here, and don't bring Sabbath, the dietary laws, the festivals, etc... into the picture. those commands were given to Israel only.

How do you take those scriptures like, those that speak about God choosing people before He created the world. there are quite a few other scriptures which speak about Gods elect. How are we to understand what God is saying about them

Spurgeon is a good man and worthy of note. Jesus is far better and Spurgeon would not argue against that statement.

Spurgeon was under much pressure to side with the Calvinists so as to not appear to side with the Catholics in their works based salvation doctrine.

The question is not about God saving by grace through faith but does God make His offer of grace through His Son to all or only to an elite few?

Yes. The Sabbath is dealt with by Paul.

Good question, do you think the Bible gives us the answer or is it a matter of each to his own interpretation. I have heard some very interesting debates on this issue and I have to say that the Bible supports election by God more than it does the mans choice view.

Did the apostles teach it or did they teach that election was the result of salvation and not the influencing factor of salvation?

On this subject I think that men on both sides have perverted the truth.
