My preference and what I recommend and buy for others is KJV.

I use the NASB, and the NLT. I also have a ESV that I use sometimes.

My latest version is the new Modern Literal Version. It is supposed to be very closely translated from the Greek.... a literal, word for word version. I haven't gotten to spend much time with it yet, but what I've read so far seems interesting.

Can't really pick a "favorite", but I like reading the KJV, NKJV, (original) NIV and HCSB.

My favorite Bible for studying is The Companion Bible. It's KJV, but, has marginal notes, which help with clarity, and a whole lot of appendixes, which also helps with clarity. I also use the "hard-bound" Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, which has most, if not every word of the Hebrew and Greek translated. I also ask for help in understanding what I'm reading, by knocking on the door.
