as I stated this is a topic that has been flung about until people quit exhausted by the effort

and often enough, it is started by men who, it turns out, actually do blame women for whatever they have a problem with

don't take that personally...you have plenty of time to change my mind ;)

Anyway, what do you think about modesty? do you see the importance of biblical modesty and are you seeking to fight for it in your church?
I believe in being modest but I don't believe in fighting for the cause.

When you see a grandma who should know better showing cleavage, what can you do huh? What can you do but shake your head in disbelief.

The real importance is to seek to get the elders in the church to preach on it, that's when heart change begins, alot of pastors have abandoned God's doctrines and are seeking to please people instead of pleasing God.

Well, you can think whatever you want, but would you agree that Modesty is important biblicaly?

The pastor could preach modesty until he out of breath. It won't make a difference. Some people are just fully convinced in their hearts that God does not mind them dressing in tight, revealing outfits.

I don't see why a man should wear shorts to church. Would he turn up at the office in a shorts?

I can understand not having anything else to wear, and making do with what you have. But as for the rest, I just shake my head.

you can also think whatever you want as you have indicated

I just don't care for the subtrefuge you appear to be engaged in

Jesus was called a sinner because He did not think to avoid the real 'bad' sinners like whores and such

women have a best friend in Jesus

in self righteous men not so much

way too much whitewash going on in this thread

Im sorry that you feel that way, im praying for you, i know that this is a sensitive subject, but i think this really has nothing to do with anything. We are talking about Modesty in the church and its importance and i am all for hanging out with sinners and evangelizing with them, that's indeed what Jesus was like :)

Fair enough, but we can still keep trying, lets not give up Sister in Christ, lets go forward in Jesus name and confront the pastors, with the loving truth of modesty, because God's Spirit can make hearts soft :)

Outside of how alluring and enticing wearing skanty and revealing clothes can be (offensive to the beholder), I don't think that anyway will deny the fact that such attire is nether comfortable nor convenient. One must always be cautious how they twist, turn, cross their legs and bend over (if they're able to bend over). Therefore, I would question the motive behind wearing such impractical outfits. And this is where the self respect comes in. People flaunt their greatest assets, and if your drawing attention to your flesh, you are basically saying, what you see is all that you're going to get, i.e. i haven't much else to offer, or this is one of my more important assets. Men and women beware, you can tell a lot about a person from how they comport themselves, and you will be judged accordingly. With such superficial and base allurements, you will attract the worst of the worst, and be labelled simple and shallow (and rightly so to a certain degree, for again, this is not practical wear). Whether or not one can control other people's regard, one must question the need and incentive behind wearing sexy and inconvenient clothing. Men and women respect yourselves, gain people's interest with your personality and good character, not with superficial ostentation that merely demeans you to be objectified, that even the wicked can succeed at.

self respect. exactly

IMO, too many women suffer from a bad self image and think that by dressing in a certain way, they portray what is sadly popular today

I don't have the strength for such things. And these same people can quote every scripture except the one where it says to dress modest. They quote instead, God looks at the heart, not appearance. Twisting the scripture to suit their need to show cleavage.

the best person to tap someone on the shoulder regarding things that so called mature Christians believe are so important, is actually the person of the Holy Spirit

prayer is more effective than saying 'thank God I am not like that person'

anyway, nothing to be gained or lost here IMO so enjoy

7Seas, you were being a bit harsh, what Kim82 said was correct in the context that she meant it. Yes, God looks at the heart, but that's a double edged sword. The fact that he does check the heart means you can be both exonerated or incriminated, for people may do the right thing but for the wrong reason, or the wrong thing but for the right reason. God, the wise judge, inspects the intent. Therefore, to justify a superficial act by stating that God looks only at the inside, is deceitful, they are exploiting the principle. As much as the unrighteous like to claim that God is all forgiving, so that they need not control their lascivious desires. They are making a mockery of God's wisdom and grace. Kim82 was just pointing this out, in this particular context.

Excuse me, your comment is very rude and ungodly, you don't know this persons situation, she is saying that people are twisting the word of God where she is at. God looks at the heart is often an excuse that people make that is unscriptural to destroy modesty.

You should apologize to her for your rudeness.

Also for a general edifcation for people reading this: make sure if your going to judge things thats its a righteous judgment, because God will judge every idle word.

I wear jeans to church.

I’m also on the music team.

We can talk about stuff left and right, but the Holy Spirit is the only One who changes hearts.

P.S. a man or woman can dress covered head to toe and still be immodest in heart/mind/character.
