Heard another translation for perfect is not being sinless but being mature in Christ....being firmly establish in the milk and eating the meat of discernment

Firmly planted in God so that false doctrines and false teachers can not away you from His truth and cause you to lash out but always display love as God loves us and others.

*And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, *for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, *till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; *that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, *but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— *from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. - Ephesians 4:11-16 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians4:11-16&version=NIV

*until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.*Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. - Ephesians 4:13-14 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians4:13-14&version=NIV

After spending years talking to muslims, the core point is love through Christ works. It changes people and brings heaven to earth. Jesus talks about love being the sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit and His gospel.

I have lived in christian communities so I know how hard this is. I have changed my views on what being in the world and not of it, and how this works. If Jesus means nothing at a life social level, what is the gospel.

Put simply Jesus set us free to walk as children of the light. It is such a gift, yet so elusive to so many.
It is true that He set us free from fear of death. We won't die. We won't pay the wages of sin, which is death. And that gives us the freedom to run boldly to Him for help when we need it instead of servile fear and uncertainty and trying to hide our heart from Him in fear.

What most of us need help with is walking AFTER receiving such mercy. Like...how it is that we want so badly to become like Christ more and more yet can see so much awful in us when we get angry, resent, want to get even with others in our heart, etc.? Why do we fail? What are the things that hold us back for so many years sometimes? To be saved, to know you are saved, but then to be in great pains over our hearts, to want holiness and see that we do not have the virtue we desire. These are the things we need help with - why we don't have victory and see we aren't loving and forgiving. We need men who can help us to understand these things to move on to be more like Christ.

It doesn't help to hear that He has given us a new heart and we just have to start believing that He has when we can plainly see so much awful in ourselves. I agree that we read the verse and want it very badly, that we are truly hungering for righteousness and thirsting for it. But I do not agree that it happens overnight that we are made like Jesus. I would be insane to my own eyes if I insisted on affirming that I am a completely new creature when I see this awful, old creature in me over and over again.

And yet I know I must be holy because He is holy. So what man can help with my understanding? These are the practical things that men who have learned from Him can help me with. Because for the most part, I don't tend to see much difference in the behavior of believers and unbelievers. I see believers get every bit as angry and rude as unbelievers. I see them insisting they weren't angry at all, but we are all very good at reading body language, the flare of red on the cheeks that shows someone was angry despite what they insist, etc.

I have recently read a man who did help me some, but I wish we could get past the same arguments and move on to helping each other in our walk now that we do not have to fear death. Because we are not supposed to be such defeated people but are supposed to have victory over anger, selfishness, resentment, pettiness, feeling slighted, the need to defend ourselves against each other. That's what we need help with. We need help with WHY we are so hindered and bound again and emotionally sick.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

It is not the faith that he gave or gives us. By God's grace, we are saved through our faith in him. It is not grace that God gives us. It is salvation.
It's all a gift. \:D/

I agree that we are not able to be completely obedient, but as we grow in Christ our obedience to him also grows, and the battle with the flesh becomes less significant.
He gives us the victory. Let Him lead us as our Captain. Jesus said, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.' :)

Plain old grace is what they do have a problem with, Ariel82. The term 'Hyper-grace' was coined as a pejorative term to make it seem like another heresy out there.

Please do understand: HRFTD and PJ are preaching a grace+works equation for salvation; a Jesus+ equation for salvation. They may claim that salvation is attained by grace, but they will fight tooth and nail that it is MAINTAINED by works.

Grace and peace to you,
-JGIG
Not true. Grace + works is a false dichotomy. I promote faith + works = obedience. It's a good formula because only the obedient are saved.
Romans 10:16, "But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?"

The obedience that is required is believing the gospel.
Excellent.
Good corection, and very helpful for the listeners.:)

Stunnedbygrace, the answer is that we have spiritual strongholds that war against the knowledge of God. That is why it's so hard to see the new heart and our new lives.

Everyone has a different set of lies they learnt growing up in this sinful world. Worldly wisdom that teaches things like....

"You have to look out for number one."
"God help those who help themselves"

Unspoken things like the dress code for church....

I know God has revealed to me many lies I believed and torn down false pride.

As we grow and mature in Christ, we look and act totally strangely and marvelously different from the rest,of the world. We let go of pride, greed envy.

Anger is okay as long as we forgive and give it to God at the end of the day.

God is making diamonds out of us so we can shine His pure light and love into the world.

Those who choose to be with God are not only His friends but are His children. Those who believe themselves to be separate from God undoubtedly think themselves superior to His will, and they are servants of the enemy.

People are all given time to choose where they are going, and if they are not, theonly true God is just. If you do not believe this, you do not believe God.

That's what we need help with. We need help with WHY we are so hindered and bound again and emotionally sick.
I wish I could embrace you sister. It is this question which I have been pondering all my christian life.
As a body exploring these issues makes a real difference.
Key to this is confession of sin or just problems, forgiveness for hurt done to us, support and love from each other, and reaching out to God for His guidance and love. We tend to be so insular and individualistic, so much remains hidden all our lives, we do not give God a chance or ourselves to resolve these issues and let God heal us.

The thing that will condemn us is if we refused to come to the light for fear our sins would be exposed. The light is truthfulness. The darkness is self deceit.

But truthfully, we read the verse about how sick and deceitful our hearts are and since we have met God and commune with Him, having received His Spirit, we think the verse does not apply to us but only to everyone else.

But even we who have His Spirit still have enmity against the Spirit in us. We still cover up sin in our heart - angers, resentments, lack of real forgiveness. We insist we haven't sinned instead of letting Him show us we have. We do it all the time. We don't think we need to grow more or be chastised by Him but everyone else does.

The way we are taught by our parents and the world is to have "manners." But a very mannered person isn't what God is looking for. He's looking for brutal honesty with Him about ourselves. Outwardly mannered does not always equal inwardly clean.

The useless conversation handed to us by the tradition of our fathers is that all's fair as long as we are outwardly mannered. And so, we are sneaky in our murders. We get even with a smile on our face and we feel secure that no one has been able to catch us cheating. It's okay to stab someone in the back but never in the face. It's useless and deceitful and we are taught it's okay. We can resent inwardly and still be approved of by society. As long as we bear an offense with outward manners, we can hold a grudge inside.

It's approved for me to have murderous resentment that mom will never rinse off a plate or do dishes as long as I don't vocalize my resentment. But God looks at the inside. So this is not okay with Him. And yet, I still insist I did not murder her because the world says I didn't. I am agreeing with the world and the useless conversation handing to me by the tradition of my father. I am not agreeing with God. I am deceiving my mom AND I myself am deceiving myself. I am refusing the light of truthfulness and embracing the darkness of self deceit.

If our parents told us not to do something and we did it anyway, did the defense of but everyone elses mom lets them do it ever work for us? No it did not. Because we were disobeying.

Until He can get us to the place of brutal honesty about ourselves when we talk with Him, we will never grow in virtue. We have to admit we have some sickness before we can go to Him to be healed of it. How can wwe ever grow in the virtues of love and forgiveness if we will never admit we are lacking in them or have failed in them? He will not answer our prayers if we cover up sin in our heart and we can never grow to be more like our Lord if we insist we are acting like Him already and have no lack. And if we don't grow in these virtues, we are only fooling ourselves that we are helping God and showing Him to others.

This IS our warfare. And just trying harder will never fix it. We have to admit the truth and flee to Him to help us and to change it. Admitting there is a problem is the first step. Fleeing to Him for safety from these enemies inside us is the second step.

I realised something simple.

Who is a friend of Jesus and who is an enemy?

I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.
Luke 12:4

You are my friends if you do what I command.
John 15:14

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:15

Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
Acts 13:38

We are friends of Christ if we do what he commands. Obedience is the key way we show our heart change.
Peter preached after the cross sin still needed to be resolved through Jesus by faith.

If you cannot hold to these two principles you are not a friend of Jesus but an enemy.
If you hold to these two principles you are a friend and part of the Kingdom of God.

Now I know many of the readers of this note will feel condemnation at these words because they claim to know Jesus yet deny these realities. You will call me self righteous, arrogant and proud.

I call you to repent and bow the knee to the King of Kings not because these are my words but His and His sons, Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God.

I also know the anger this stirs up in you will bring great problems to many people, but this is the gospel of light and truth, love and righteousness. It is also the gospel of judgement, and the second death. It is not nice, and friendly, it is life to those who believe and judgement to those who rebel and stay in sin.

My heart breaks at the lostness of this world and how people stumble into death and judgement when the door to forgiveness and life is open before all. And yet so many shout loudly they know Christ yet trample on His realities.

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.
Matt 11:19

Christ came to set us free from sin, not to leave us lost and bound by this world.
Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Gal 4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

If people do not like people that uphold that that they have to act like Christ,by the Holy Spirit,no exception, they must of really not liked Paul back when He was preaching, and teaching.

1Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Act 2:45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Act 4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
Act 4:35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

It is more strict than some people realize,of how we are to live like Christ, which an enemy of God is anyone that likes things in the world.
