Jesus, when giving instruction on how to pray, specifically said to pray to the Father.

Question.

Does it matter who we pray to?
Can we pray to Jesus?
Can we pray to the Holy Spirit?

Or are we only to pray to the Father, seeing that Jesus specifically said to pray to the Father?

If you don't pray only to the Father are you going against what Jesus taught?

Does any of it matter?

Disclaimer: Of course I know we're not to pray to saints, other gods, the dead, and the like.

When I pray, I'm praying unto other people, asking my father, remembering Jesus, talking, feeling, reaching out. All these things at once.

But since God knows what I will say before I say it, and what's in my heart:

'Our father who lives in heaven. Holy is your name. Your kingdom comes. Your will shall be done. Then let it be on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day what we need, and forgive us our sins. Let us forgive those who sin against us. Lead us away from temptation and deliver us from evil. Your way is the kingdom. You are our strength and glory. Forever and ever. So be it'.

plenty of verses, here is one for example
Matthew 3:12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable
I say again, scripture please. The subject of the matter is to whom we are to pray to. Understand this sir, God don't not contradict Himself. He will not say one thing one place and say contrary to that in another. I saw scripture explicitly state in clear, simple, and easy to understand English, to pray to the Father in Jesus' name. What part of this scripture do you not understand?
I thought to myself, that this subject was so simple and easy, but interestingly enough, I was wrong. If most of you so called Christians would stop holding on to your church doctrines, you wouldn't be blinded to the truth. Love the truth more than your church or your own beliefs. Seek God with an honest and pure heart and He will reveal the truth to you.

why would you pray to Father or Holy Spirit when Jesus is the one who gives you eternal life or not

John 10:28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

if you pray to Father and Jesus doesn't know you you are in BIG troubles no matter how often you prayed to the Father or Holy Spirit or both of them simultaneously

Matthew 7:23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
I should also point out that one will not lose their salvation regardless of who they pray to.
As to the scripture above, "I never knew you", means just that. You were never born again. And if Jesus doesn't know you, then neither does the Father.

Sorry for sounding so sarcastic and hard. Even though I disagree with you sir, I was not trying to belittle you. I usually just try to state things matter-of-factly but I have to admit, this time I was not walking in love. So, for that, I apologize.
Having said that though, scripture does not support your claim.

Well know1 it’s up to you who you’d like to pray to.

For me it’s absolutely crystal clear.

Jesus is God
He is the one who gives you Holy Spirit.
He is the one who baptise you.
He is the one who died for you.
Here is the one who forgives you of your sins.
He is the one who heals you.
He is the one who intercedes for you.
If you ask for something He is the one who does it for you (John 14:14)
In our heart we are commanded to sing and make melody to him (Eph 5:19)
Without him we can’t do anything (John 15:5)
Here is the one who gives you Eternal Life (John 10:27-28) (….uhm what more do you want?)
In his Book of Lamb (or Book of Life) your name is written.
Here is the one who has got the key to death and Hell.
Apostles prayed to him (Acts 8:24)
Some people prayed to him (Acts 1:24)

Why would you want to pray to anyone apart from Jesus I guess will always remain a mystery to me.

The trinity is a bit of mystery, the 3 in 1 God, is it not?

The God of the Holy Bible desires to be worshiped just as He has revealed Himself....as Triune.

That's very good and I wouldn't want to take any of that away. For Jesus is truly those things any much much more.
But again, the scripture you continue to ignore.
Joh_15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Joh_16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
I can't make it any plainer than that. Ask or pray to the Father in the name of Jesus, this is very clear to me and to a child.
I am happy to see you honoring Jesus, and if you honor the Son, you honor the Father, for they two are one. God Bless

It is somewhat but I see it clearer now that I understand a little of how man is made, for we are made not only in his image but after His likeness as well. I have yet to get anyone to see or much less to understand this simple truth.

ask of the Father in my name,
You can pray to the Father all your life and never know Jesus. That’s what Jews do
You can pray to the Spirit all your life and never know Jesus. That’s what Native Americans do.
If you pray to the Father or Holy Spirit and don’t know Jesus you are in Big Big trouble

So by praying to Father or Holy Spirit you can be very wrong

By praying to Jesus you are never wrong.

If you pray to Jesus he gives you Holy Spirit and Father.
The expression “Pray to the Father in my name” make sense only if you understand it as follows “Pray to Jesus. In him you’ve got the Father”

In scriptures it is reiterated over and over again that your fate is entirely in in Jesus hands now and Jesus is the one who does it all for you. Why would you then pray to anyone else? Makes no sense whatsoever.
It’s not about quoting few verses and doing exactly what is written them in a religious or monkey-like or Monk-like fashion.
It’s about making sense and seeing the whole picture holistically.

Keep in mind too that no one comes to the Father but through Jesus so through Jesus, we pray to Father God..through Jesus we commune with Father God

That is correct. Earlier I posted on this matter but I would just like to add the following Scripture as it concerns In Whose NAME we should pray to.

"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." -- JOHN 14:13-14 (KJV)

So many people misunderstand the expression “Pray to the Father in my name”. What it means is this: “Pray to Jesus. That's the name for you to pray to. If you pray to Jesus you get the Father”

Jesus Christ is the one who literally walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He was the One who dealt directly with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He was the One who spoke "face to face" with Moses (Numbers 12:8). He was the One who spoke the Ten Commandments from the top of Mount Sinai.

You don't need to pray to anyone else but Jesus because in Jesus you get it all

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily

This is going to sound like what someone :))) has described as 'spot the kook' but whatever... We shall overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

I was praying about this because I was confused too. I have always prayed starting out with 'Lord Jesus'. But I had heard some people start out with 'Father God'.

While I was praying I came to a point where I had stopped and I was just waiting and being quiet. I saw in my head that I was in a temple and there were many other people there. We were all on our faces before the throne. I saw steps at the place where everyone was facing towards. I fully expected there to be two places to sit at the top of these steps. One where Father God would sit and then one on His right hand where Jesus would sit. But there was only one throne. There was only one place to sit.

When we are praying are we not presenting ourselves before God?? Is there in fact only one God or are there 3?

I don't think anyone knows the name of God but He knows you and He knows who you are presenting yourself to.

I hope this helps someone...
And not just to spot the kook, lol

I pray to them all but I find myself most often praying "Lord". Sometimes different names just pop out and I don't think it matters much. When I was little I called my dad different names. Usually it had to do with my own heart. Dad, daddy, Papi, Daddy-o, hey you! :).

I pray to the Father in the Name of His Son. Can't get to the Father but through the Son.

Well, I did a bit of research and 'seeking' for God's name and the name of His Son. God's name is YHWH and it's pronounced like a breath (Hwooah). God is a spirit and He breathed His 'breath' into all livng things. His son's name is Yashua, He was never called Jesus in His day because there was and is no 'J' in the Hebrew language (long story). It took a while for me to accept and get used to it, but if you search for the truth you WILL get it!
Hope this helps. God bless!
