Why would someone need to be a member of a denomination to deal with that issue?
It probably has something to do with the church feeling they then have some control and jurisdiction over the members.

Same way at the church I'm attending. And a communion table open to all. Also,
they don't pass a plate or make a big scene about collecting money either. There's a wooden box in the back of the church where you can give your financial gift. You can put it in a envelope with your name on it for tax purposes if you want to, or give privately.
Just so you understand communion is a big deal to the Lord and He doesn't want people taking it to their own damnation not realising what it is intended for and the minister is also held accountable to God for those taking it. I wouldn't want to be in that position CARELESSLY.

Yeah, right. I was told to believe all that stuff, too.

Actually there is scripture to back it up. Now why would you be against what God laid out for us to follow?
Please show me where The Bible says the minister is to stop people not of his denomination from taking the Lord's Supper.

They use 1 Corinthians 11:27-32.

Yeah, I know all too well the various verses the church uses to justify their often barbaric behavior. But, just like these verses, they seldom seem to ever say what is claimed.

I think you should approach leadership in a non-member church (or they should approach you), discuss your confession of Christ with them, and decide from that whether you should (be allowed to) participate in communion.

Found it in a box of cereal.
I was brought up in a Methodist Church. When it was time for me to start going to a church as an adult, I suppose I was most comfortable going to another (United) Methodist Church. Churches are more about people, than anything else, I think.

IMO, there are at least 2 valid reasons for denominations:

1) Denominational labels do make it easier to find a congregation of like-minded believers.

2) A denomination can co-operatively do more to carry on mission work than a small local church can do alone.
