OK so the apostles all spoke and wrote in 17th Century English... RIGHT?
Yes they had a Time machine. Unfortunately it only had enough juice to reach the 17th century otherwise they could have text it all.

There are no ''original'' scriptures. They turned to dust centuries ago. All we have are copies of copies. Even the Dead sea Scrolls are copies. So to say that the KJV is the closest to the originals is wishful thinking.
All this back and forth about the KJV is making my head hurt. May I suggest you all take a break and educate yourselves with the history of the KJV and discover how close it came to never being produced. It was the direct intervention by God that we have this wonderful book to show us the way. It has guided people toward the cross for over four hundred years. I have over twenty different version of the bible on my computer and I seriously doubt any of those other than the KJV will be around one hundred years from now let along four hundred years--That is if the present world last that long.
May I suggest you begin with researching the life of King James.

While you may be correct about the more recent versions not lasting as long as the KJV, you must concede the point when you consider that the Latin Vulgate had been around for over 1000 years before the KJV came along. The published Greek editions of Stephanus and Beza were considered "upstarts" at first. The length of time during which a translation has been used is no indication of its consistency with the originals. The KJV, though not perfect, is a good translation, and very few here are trying to say "don't use it". Rather, we are not accepting the argument that it is the only "true" Bible in English. That argument has been refuted many times, though some of its proponents refuse to accept plain facts. :)

I cant disagree with most of what you have said, but it has not done much to relieve my headache. You failed to identify who we are that are not accepting the argument that it is the only "true" Bible in English. You stated it has been refuted many time, but you failed to identify those who refute it. Allow me to further point out your failure to produce those so-called plane facts.
It is not my intent to convince you of the validity of the KJV, but I challenge you to identify any bible other than the KJV who's creation was ordained by God. If will take my suggestion and study the life of King James, it will set the foundation for further discussion to show evidence that God ordained the creation of the KLV. I look forward to engage in further discussion.

KNOW THE TRUTH AND THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE

"and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 ESV

"
Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:5-6 ESV

First, you have completely lost your credibility, by quoting John 8:32 without the reference, and in your context, you seem to be implying that the KJV is the "truth" instead of Jesus Christ, as he says only 6 chapters later. Jesus is the "truth." Not the KJV.

Second, there is a search function on the top right corner, if you want to read the threads in which people claim the KJV is the only proper translation, "authorized" by God - ie, King James, then you might want to do a search and spend a few days reading. You will get to know all the people who unsuccessfully tried to convince this forum that they were right about KJV Only, and those of us with training in reading Biblical languages were wrong about all the additions, mistakes which I in particular hammered home on many occasions. (Or read this thread - certainly many have posted on it - including me!)

Third, spend some time in this forum, before you ask these silly rhetorical questions in which we know the answers, but you pretend you don't. I have refuted the myth of the KJV being the only Bible on multiple occasions. Thank you!

As for the KJV, it is beyond my comprehension - all those archaic words and grammatical uses especially second person singular. Maybe if there were courses on Elizabethan grammar, I might feel differently, but until that day, the KJV is strange and alien to modern English. Then there are the mistakes which abound.

BUT- it has a wonderful history, and I think we should all be grateful, that at the time, it was a Bible in English for the common people. However, today, we need to use today's language to communicate, and certainly we have come so far in Bible scholarship with manuscripts that were not found until recently, especially the much earlier manuscripts than the 7 corrupt manuscripts that Erasmus, the Catholic priest used, which was then used by the KJV translation committee. (Yep the KJV is a Catholic Bible!)

So if the KJV works for you, I think that is wonderful. Continue to read it to grow closer to God. But no, you are never going to convince someone who loves reading Greek as much as me, with a Greek professor on the ESV and NIV translation committees that the KJV is the only right translation. The KJV is no longer communicates effectively, (and is ridden with small errors, although they don't change much doctrine,) and certainly for the average westerner, is not the best choice for devotions or study. Or preaching or teaching!

John 17:17, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

If you refute the KJV to being the word of God, then please give me what you go to that you can trust 100% and you call the holy, pure words of God. Me, I'm glad that the KJV is "strange and alien to modern English" because our modern English is watered down and slang as it is. I'm glad that the KJV sounds different. The "archaic" words in the KJV actually make it more accurate so who cares if it sounds strange. Instead of wanting to update the language, we should just study it and believe it. And you totally false about the Textus Receptus being corrupt. You should study it yourself and not take what your commentary and websites have to say.

Again, please provide a Bible you claim is the word of God and can be trusted 100%.

My Bible (the KJV) is the Written Word of God..............regardless of a few errors that HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH it being Gospel Truth!

Please show me the Scripture that says God is not powerful enough to assure His Written Word does not REMAIN His Written Word?

This is a canard. It has no logical soundness. It's like demanding of someone who denies doing something, "Then who did it?" The innocent party has no obligation to produce the guilty one. Similarly, stating (and proving) that the KJV is not without error does not obligate anyone to produce a translation which meets your (personal) standard. You have been told many times the answer to your request, but you reject it and continue to repeat the request.

I am late in this thread.
However, my popularity seems to be not growing in other threads?!?

I love the KJV. I plan to always have it in my arsenal.
I am not a KJV-Only guy. (at one point, I was a KJV-Only guy, years ago.)

ESV is my current favorite for daily reading, with often quick comparisons with the KJV, especially when reaching for the Strongs or Brown-Driver-Briggs.

The KJV is a must-own for English speaking Bible students, but not a perfect version.

i recently heard that some of you think "other" Bibles are copyrighted but the KJV is not.
and you go on with this, claiming that "other" translations were made with the sole, nefarious purpose of making money.

well.

gain a little knowledge, today, please.

Do you have something that you can hold in your hand that you can say without a doubt that "this is the word of God without error"? Do we have a perfect Bible or not? Do we have something we can trust 100%? If not, why do we even bother? Why should I trust in something that has errors? Call me what you will, but I am a Bible Believer.

if we didn't speak English as our native language, it wouldn't be :)

there are no apostles of the '
KJV-only-gospel' in China.
That makes perfect sense. I don't suppose non-English speaking countries have this sort of issue.

That makes perfect sense. I don't suppose non-English speaking countries have this sort of issue.

i'd say there is probably a bit of '
this is the better translation' or 'no, this one is' that goes on.

but somehow i suspect there isn't so much of a 'cult' of people in Russia who believe the Russian Synodal Version is the be-all, end-all perfect and flawless word of God and the New Russian Translation is from the pit of hell, and are willing to question the salvation of anyone who heard and believed the gospel in any other translation, the more naive of whom actually believe Christ and His apostles spoke Russian.

somehow i think that is a singularly English-speaking thing. i haven't really made a point of seeking out & asking Christians who are native speakers of other languages, but so far as i know that seems to be pretty much the case.

certainly no one whose native language is Arabic thinks the KJV is the perfect word of God to the exclusion of all others. given how Islam generally feels that the Qu'ran should be read in Arabic, i'd say people from those cultures probably feel that way about the Bible in Hebrew & Greek, if you want to get down to it. & i think that i fall into that category too.

God had this book written in Hebrew and in Greek. those manuscripts are the pure word in written form for us. every other language is a translation, and every translation has flaws. so the KJV is flawed just as much as anything else is.

that's just common sense, right?
but KJV-only people don't really respond to common sense, not on that subject. just like moon-landing-is-fake people, or the flat-earth people. at least on that one subject, they are nuts.

honestly, i bet we are all this way on one subject or another.

my opinion is that every single person on earth has mental issues - Christian and non-believer alike. Jesus is the medicine, and the cure comes when He returns to redeem our flesh and set all things right :)
