Is an infidel the WORST kind of person you can be in the Bible?
Cos there is someone even worse than an infidel in 1 Timothy 5:8

I just wonder about how those men who choose NOT to provide for their family can ever live it down. (Not just those who cant afford to, but stay even if they are struggling, but those that WONT even bother)
Like knowing that you've left your own children to possibly starve and your wife destitute and heartbroken. What does God do about these men? Aside from eternal punishment, does He do anything with them while they get off scot free on this earth

What do we call these men??

I'm not sure what Bible version uses the word "infidel". In my NKJV it uses the word "unbeliever". In my study notes it says that we are called to live a higher standard then unbelievers. As for getting away with sin in this life, there is nothing worse then eternal punishment. It's truly hard to even fathom from what I have read about peoples near death experiences. I don't wish that on anyone.

well i guess if divorce wasnt so easy there would be less single parents .

So KJV
1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV)
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

infidel original word means from Greek
from <G1> (a) (as a negative particle) and <G4103> (pistos); (active) disbelieving, i.e. without Christian faith (specially a heathen); (passive) untrustworthy (person), or incredible (thing) :- that believeth not, faithless, incredible thing, infidel, unbeliever (-ing).
Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

So not a dirty rotten sinner , just not beign a good example of someone who says they beleive.

So for any unbeleiver who doesnt support their familiy it isnt an issue anyway. This is only for Christians not the world.
and any beleiver that is not supporting their family, questions need to be asked , why is the family separated? Why isnt the man or woman supporting the family? IS the Church involved?

I said that last part just based off of what I have witnessed in the dating arena. Lots of single mothers who basically used men as a sperm donor with the intent of pivoting directly to the government and legal system to get monetary support. Maybe being a social worker you are well-acquainted with this.

That's why I think Uncle Sam has replaced men and I think it's intentionally designed to weaken the family unit.

Our family unity on a societal level is part of our strength. Among many other factors, government welfare divides and conquers families.
Yeah, I can agree with that, as well. Many women are abusing the system and sometimes it is just for financial gain or some type of benefit or assistance. However, then again there are also men who are out having sex and impregnating many different women and don't want any of the responsibility that goes with it. So then they just move on to the next woman. They want to play but they don't want to pay...lol So it is not only women but men who have came to rely on the system or Uncle Sam to bail them out and to support their children. So yeah, I agree it is definitely weakening the family unit. Some men and some women don't want to, and know that they don't really have to take responsibility for their own children or families.

I think in those instance you dont kick them out but send them to a dedicated rehab facility. Some of the places cost a bit to run and often paid for by contributions but they do provide a bed and a roof over their head and food and proper care. You dont just leave them on the street to become even MORE addicted.
I won't leave them homeless/without food. I will help them to apply for benefits, find housing in a safe place, etc. If there are truly no other options, I would find a home where there is a private basement/garage home where there is some space/privacy.

I think welfare/uncle sam or whatever had existed because of the wars when basically half the men died there was NOBODY to look after the widows. But in the Bible its talking about the rule of being over 60 and making sure they were really widows and not abusing the charity of the church.

I dont think it was INTENTIONAL that welfare is that way but one of the consequences is that people will find ways to abuse it. For the most part, what Ive seen is it is the men who abandon their wives/partners as soo.nas they find out she is pregnant or a few years later. Not many women that I know just want men as a sperm donor and think they are able to live off the govt or welfare. They not THAT stupid.
Because you cant, its not enough. which mother in her right mind can live off the little that is given esp if they are raising more than one child?

or maybe they are stupid and the Bible actually agrees with that and calls them silly.

For those YOUNG women who find them abandoned then the Bible says they ought to marry again. So I guess that is why they are trying to find dates and marry rather than expect their families to provide. It makes the point to ask if they are actually widows indeed.

it doesnt specify that they are meant to marry someone ELSE, maybe it meant they were to marry the father of their children! Cos obviously he is still alive. Not dead.

Otherwise they are not really widows.
