Baptism IS necessary for salvation...but it's NOT baptism in water, as most (if not all) Christians teach/believe.

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:37-38

Taking Scripture out of context is what baptismal regeneration has done to a generation of unsuspecting souls. Notice very carefully in Acts 2:38 it is addressing a GROUP of people. It in no way says that water baptism washes ones sins away(no, "for" does not mean "in order to get"). In fact, the issue has already been addressed PREVIOUS to Acts 2:38 on what must be done to be saved: "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 2:21. It is unsound Biblical practice to make doctrine off one verse when salvation is also addressed in many other passages.

If you were to look a little further in Acts you will see a direct question made about salvation:

"And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:30-31

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be ****ed." Mark 16:16

Notice it does not say "he that believeth not and is not baptized shall be ****ed", it says "he that believeth not shall be ****ed". This agrees fully with John 3:18 because the REASON why someone is condemned is because of UNBELIEF:

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18

It is sad that many cults who lie to their followers are sending many people to hell for teaching them that water washes sins away. In fact the Word makes it CLEAR that water baptism is not even part of the gospel!

"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect." 1 Corinthians 1:17

Notice throughout Acts, it is AFTER one got saved that they were baptized! Baptism is for believers ONLY.

Fellow brethren, all that is needed to quench the flaming arrows of the devil concerning heresy is to shine the light of the Word on everything(Isaiah 8:20). The Bible must be understood in its proper context and ALL interpretation must agree fully with the rest of the Bible for it to be the correct interpretation!

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

maybe it is like a wedding ring but water is only water maybe its more of the comittment "The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit"John 3: 8 maybe you are saved because you know you received the holy spirit and not just because they say you are

I think the correct thing to say is:

You should be baptised to be saved.
Actually the correct thing to say is Jesus has commanded us to be baptized so we need to be baptized after we get saved.

I think we should look at the definition of the word baptisim :

a Christian sacrament signifying spiritual cleansing and rebirth; "most churches baptize infants but some insist on adult baptism"

I personally acceptted Jesus Christ as my saviour and truelly repented for my sins when I was about 4/5/6. I dont really know, I was young anyway and have a very strong CHrsitan Faith. I was baptised when I was 7. In my bath, by my dad. The whole of the church came into the bathroom, and witnessed me my twin and one of my other brothers all get baptised. I was really happy that day, but I dont think that just because I was baptised 2 or 3 years after I accepted Christ, I became saved at that moment. I belive it is as soon as you accept Christ as your saviour, relisese he has died on the cross for you, and repenet for your sins.

Eph 2:8-10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- “not by works”

That however does not mean you should not be baptized because that would be stupid accepting Christ but refusing t be baptized :

Mark 16:16, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved."

But while on the cross with Jesus , I belive the man that would go to paradise with him, was not baptised.
I belive that I was saved when I was about 5 and baptised when I was 7, I feel i was saved when I was 5 and made a significant pucblic spirituall rebith.

I am trying to get back, and brining my wife with me. She, and I for that matter, have so many questions. Her biggest, mine to I guess, is she is not baptized. We are in the process of looking for a good local church, but in the meantime we are worried that if the end time comes before she is baptized, will she be lost? Thanks!

kyote1.. take baptism out of salvation.. if she has believed on Jesus Christ for eternal life.. then she has a place in heaven.. full stop.

i got baptised a few months ago, but have been a christian for about 5 years, and i've recieved the holy spirit around 1 year ago too. i think its more of a thing like, if you are saved, you would want to be baptised. jesus wanted us all to be baptised, but committing your life to god, by accepting jesus as your saviour is what gets you a ticket to heaven, whether you choose to be baptised or not.

Instances of people who were saved but never baptised..

most obvious is the fella next to Jesus on the cross.. who Jesus said 'would be with Him in paradise' .. because He believed in Jesus.

then there are tons of verses about salvation that have no baptism in them:

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,

there are lot's more verses like these..

many will say... that 'believe' means an ongoing, life long process.. but many of these verses are also in the past tense.. referring to something already done and dusted. Some are in the present tense.. but always with the assurance that the person in question WILL have eternal life.

Also 'believe' in the Greek:

G4100
πιστεύω
pisteuō
pist-yoo'-o

From G4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), that is, credit; by implication to entrust (especially one’s spiritual well being to Christ): - believe (-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with.

So really.. it is trusting Jesus with your salvation.. which for salvation.. happens once off.

Anyway..

baptism in the NT happened mostly straight after salvation.. hence why you see baptism in some verses with believing on Jesus for eternal life.

Also.. remember that baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from water baptism.

there you go :)
