Oh but it can be.......it’s understanding ,what one can receive through persecution...that can and does bring forth the Love of Christ....

I couldn’t understand why I was so persecuted.......then the Lord showed me....it was because I was a believer.......through that persecution I learnt so much......and thank God,greatly for it.

Perseverance!
Amen! We become more united to Jesus. United to Christ and that much more conformed to Him. More and more it's Christ living in us.

As I recall you are Catholic, I understand how suffering ties into your thinking .. however that would mean only those who suffer would bear the best fruit and frankly a suffering tree does not grow the best fruit but the tree that is well connected to the ground/roots and the nutrients.

Lisa Appelo.

Our darkest places can also produce good fruit.these are lessons we would never learn, insight we would never have, character that would never get shaped, unless we have been broken open in the darkest of place of suffering.
We may grieve over the circumstances that got us here, but suffering- if we let it- can produce good fruit.
There is good fruit in brokenness- fruit that would never have come if we lived every day in the sun.

Amen..Amen...Amen....Lisa.

No one said suffering bears the best fruit....but it does bear great fruit, nonetheless.

Thank God for great suffering......and that he breaks us.

If you rely on human effort.. not if the Love is poured from God... persecution can cause us to rely on Him, however persecution does have to necessarily be the precursor to relying and trusting Him.
I am not saying persicution is the only way to grow in him but it does have it's benefits

Not saying Christians will not be persecuted, I just have not seen in scripture where "fruit of the Spirit" and persecution are tied together as one necessary for the other.

Perhaps you are thinking more about chastening and discipline... I think that is something different.

Yes we see this in Roman Catholicism for sure.

"If God sends you many sufferings, it is a sign that He has great plans for you and certainly wants to make you a saint."

This is a quote from St. Ignatius of Loyola.

It depends on how you look it, sometimes there are hidden truths in scripture that are not at point blank, the scriptures all tie together in one way or another it like God is one not contrary to itself. Discipline and chastening can produce fruits of the spirit if it was not fruits of the spirit that was produced from chastening and dicipline then it would be the work of the flesh and produce nothing of value.

You aren’t understanding what he means.....which is fine.....of course persecution is tied to producing fruit....you just can’t see it....which is ok....

Your comment caused me to recall what Tertullian wrote concerning persecution,

”The oftener we are mown down by you, the more in number we grow; the blood of Christians is seed.”

(Apology, 50.13)

It is from this statement of his that the popular phrase, “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church,” is derived.

This is a quote from St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Whether it is or isn't I do not know but most of my life all I have known is suffering and sadness, my parents severely abused and starved me drugged me sexually assulted me treated me as a slave to the point I was so starved I was an eight year the size of a five year old , I was taken away and put in a foster home but soon after I got cancer I don't think I need to explain how severely painful and horrible that can be my body was permanently damaged my brain which was already under developed from my parents was damaged even more and even after I was finally cured I still never knew the love of a family I was always alone uncared about my family never listened to me I felt uncared about unloved and just simply alone now for almost two years my eyes have been fighting to be saved I was almost completely blind at one point and I have had to go through horrible treatments to save my eyes including having needles in my eye sockets.

All of this though helped me to grow and trust in God even I am able to help and understand others who have known suffering because I myself have known suffering, God used all of this.
I cannot say if it is a roman catholic beleif but it has ringed true in my life

All I am saying is "the fruit of the Spirit" does not comely solely from suffering.... scripture makes it clear victory over sin and living out our new identity comes by His Grace, walking in the Spirit and recognizing we are new creations in Him.
