I am a spender....At least I was.... I buy stuff and I have a lot of stuff and I don't need so much stuff...

My husband who is not so new now since we have been married a year in November has a saying that he says that.... He travels light..... meaning he doesn't have so much stuff. During the year we have been married I have bought him stuff because he doesn't....lol

O.K. it would be funny but it is really not as I have now been officially laid off from my job since June 27, 2013 and the 401k I have been living off of is starting to get low and I still have a year before I turn 62 and able to collect social security, which by the way will not make anyone rich, but it is a source of income monthly.

So my goal for the year is to not buy extra stuff. So thought I would blog about it and let you know how I am doing. I also have been taught how to sell things on Ebay and am going to try and sell $5,000.00 in the 2016 year.

So to recap....Not buy stuff to save money and sell stuff that I am going to make and extra items out of the house, (some of my stuff), to make money to pay down the principal on the mortgage.

January 1, 2016 - I didn't buy anything or spend any money today!!! Blond is off to a good start.. For the month (Part November/December 2015) that I was learning how to sell on Ebay I have made over $200.00 to put on the mortgage!!

So far so good....365 days to go....this is a leap year you know....

To be continued.

Well an update.....I was tempted to buy something on the 2nd...off to a real good start, but good news it that I refrained and did not make the purchase. Look I have already saved $37.00 for the year as that was the cost of what I thought I wanted to buy.

It was an internet diet program and if you have seen my picture you know I really need to loose weight. Well that is on the menu for this year too, but that is another blog that has been neglected for a while.... stay tuned as it should and will be resurrected soon.

January 3rd I did make a purchase but the thing is I have rewards at different places and I am not going to let that free money get off the table. So I at least purchased a very needed item in most households..... TP so it isn't like I got an unneeded item.

I am going to have to buy groceries and household items as there is no getting away from that, but it is the extra spending that is not going to happen... It would be interesting to see what I would have spent when I have the temptations as listed above till the end of the year to see how much money I would save during the year.... Maybe I will make a chart of the unpurchased items and tally them at the end... Good thing I am retired and have nothing better to do. lol

Went grocery shopping today with Jerry and spent less than $100.00 at Costco which is great. Got the three items we needed and out of there.

Then on to Target and spent less than $100.00 so I am doing pretty good and have not cheat spent yet. Trying to just get items we really need and not get the extras.

I was tempted to get a $5.00 item out with my daughter yesterday but didn't so that is now $42.00 I have saved so far this year...

Yae Sister you are a mover and shaker...I am excited by your post as I fell into the traps of consumer therapy NOT... I walk with my Grandmother of 90 years through the $ store each week for fun and exercise, BUT I have to really be aware I some times ask Jesus about each thing that ends up in my cart and often feel a sense that I should put them back where I found them lol so I sheepishly go and put them back with a thankful spirit that God is so patient and kind to me...Our God is alive and He wants you to succeed and You will because You have an awesome God and a wonderful attitude...I am thinking of the scripture that be thankful for what you have God will make sure we have a cup running over with goodness and mercy...Congrats on your marriage what a blessing...well you are a warrior of Christ keep up the good fight Sister and I will be checking in on you again soon Shabbat Shalom <><

Ah the spending thing is going well as in not doing it... I now talk to my husband if I am going to spend money. I did have to get some new medical supplies for my sleep apnea machine tubing and such but it had been well over a year since I had replenished those so much needed and as I talked to the supplier who said it would be $139.00.....

I said nicely to her is there anyway to get a discount because I haven't worked in over two years. I know discounts are given to insurance companies who's CEO's make millions and I personally think I deserve a discount more than they do....Miraculously the bill went down to $86.00 so thank God for my big mouth.... I was sweet about it and so was she.

The other good news thing is that I have started making money at home selling things on Ebay and so far have put an extra $200.00 toward the principal of the mortgage and will be able to put $260.00 extra toward it this month. My goal for the year is to put $5,000.00 on the principal and I would love to get the house paid off in 5 years. Tourist said we won't get it paid in our lifetime but this Blond just loves a challenge and I do set goals and paying off the mortgage is the main one I am working on now besides not spending money.

I will keep you guys posted. At last count we owe $95,293.42 I like watching balances go down.....Just a couple of years ago I owed about $145,000.00 on it so that's pretty good for two years.... Help me to keep on track Lord....Thanks a bunch for all Your help.... Until next time...
