Oh daddy why are you annoyed?
Are you upset? What have I done?
You know I really need that toy
I told you all my friends have one
I must have that crusader truck
Those marbles and that soccer ball
So please put back that Toilet Duck
And hold these sweets before they fall

Oh dad I need your help in here
So could you give your son a hand?
This bike has driven me to tears
Perhaps you could lend me your van?
Don’t look at me that way, don’t tease
I know deep down you understand
At one time you were seventeen
And asked the same of your old man

Oh papa you should see her smile
It lights the way into my heart
I love the way she says she’s mine
Advise me dad I am falling fast
I’ve had a chat with mom, you know
Says rushing into love is daft
She says she’ll hate to see me go
Only to find it doesn’t last

Oh father, please why do you weep?
Though I’m a man, I’m still your boy
You cannot fix all things you see
My broken heart is not a toy
So here, please wipe your tears away
I realize where I must go
The stories you told me those days
This loving Lord you’ve always known

So Jesus could I call on you?
I cannot walk this path alone
My dad has done all he could do
But he has battles of his own
Your Father knows my every need
I lay my burdens in His care
The hope for all men clearly seen
A God who I can touch in prayer
