Dying with the Lord and having a blessed hope
We must take the way of the cross, we must believe and obey, then we must confess our sins and repent from them. After that we must put our flesh to death. We are to crucify the flesh with the passions and the lusts. Jeroboam did not do that, he was rebellious and divisive. This is what happens if you do not put the flesh to death, you will be conformed to this evil age.
Micah 4:5:
"All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God for ever and ever."
There is no expression of Jesus in the unbelievers, or in Jeroboam. Simply grasping at power and position.
2 Timothy 2:11
"Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him."
This is our blessed hope. The people in the world are "hopeless". They walk in the name of their gods, their idols. They express the flesh with its desires.
As a whole the church age has been a mixed bag. We have had successes and failures. When we have godly leadership like Elisha it is easy to walk the path of righteousness and when we have evil advisors the church has also become corrupt. Ultimately there is only one Savior and that is Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords and King of kings.
Nahum 2:6:
"The river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses."
This is not necessarily a bad thing. We need to learn the lesson that Jesus is on the throne and nothing happens outside of His sovereignty. If you build with wood, hay and stubble it will collapse. If your house is infested with termites it will collapse. This is how we learn. The Lord allows us to go after our own idea, discover that everything is collapsing and then we turn to Him for salvation and now we are willing to walk the narrow way that leads to life.
Titus 2:13
"While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."
During the church age we have learned a lot, we have gotten into the word, we have filled the earth with the gospel of Jesus Christ and we also have equally horrific failures. Ultimately, the one constant for the last two thousand years is that we are waiting for the appearing of the glory of our Great god and savior, Jesus Christ.
