The mind has a bad habit when the person lives and works and is surrounded by
the world.
It builds up barriers, strongholds to protect itself because the world cuts down the
person who doesn't conform to the world's way of thinking. The world disheartens
and confuses the individual's identity. The mind takes this all in and tries to protect
itself from the hurtful news that it doesn't match up to the world's standards, and the
mind hides behind walls.
The Word of God is every believer's refuge from the world. The mind needs a
rest from the world--a rest from the world and its bombardment sinful, dark ways of
thinking. The Word is our rest from the world. When the mind has been cleansed
from all the trash of the world, then the body can rest. The body will follow the
leadings of the mind, whether good or bad.
But the strongholds of the mind are still there to remind the believer that he does
not fit into the world's mold of how to believe, think, respond, or act. If the mind is
deluged by the surrounding flood of darkness and becomes discouraged and
depressed, the body will follow by becoming sick or at least nervous. The new
believer must begin new habits, one of which is learning who he is in Christ Jesus.
Another related to that, is reading and hearing the Word of God daily and
strengthening his faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God
(Romans 10.17).
We have listened to what Jesus told us in His gospel when a minister us preached
the gospel to us and told us the Word God has for us, and upon accepting the Word
[V. 21... the Truth is in Jesus]... put off your old self which belongs to your former
manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit
of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true
righteousness and holiness.
Colossians 3.9b-10 [ESV]
... seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new
self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator.
''I keep having bad thoughts, but I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior,"
you say?
When we have bad thoughts we need only to give them
enough attention to take them in the Name of Jesus and surrender
them. Sometimes they come out of habit, our minds race on the things we used to
allow ourselves to think. The more we take them to Jesus and put them on the cross
along with the other worldly garbage we gather during the day, the more we will find
it becomes easier and easier to bring them to Jesus Christ, and He will reward you
with His presence as you exercise self control. and serenity in His presence.
2 Corinthians 10.5 [AMP]
... we refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing
that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we lead every thought and
purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)
Colossians 1 9-10 [ESV]
And so, from the day we heard [about your love in the Spirit (v. 8), we have not
ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in
all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,
fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the
knowledge of God.
How do we discover and learn the true knowledge of God? We find out what
He says in His Word, the scriptures, and we point them out

Need for Renewal
Why do we have excuses for not taking out our Bibles and reading? Any reasons
why we should continue to complain about and worry about things (even though we
are admonished/ taught to give all our burdens to the Lord) and stay among the other
garbage in our unrenewed minds and remain in the flood of the trash of daily living,
like bad habits, bad attitudes, and bitterness? We're swimming in trash from what we
are fed from TV shows, the news, from other people--How can we be vigilant and
victorious and conquer over evil when we are over our heads?
