I want to know if the results can be changed by culture. So for example, if we were to scan the brains of Islamic males raised with in a society where women are completely concealed in public and then compare them to the brains of men who are life members of a nudist colony and who are completely accustomed to seeing naked women will the results be different? I have a strong suspicion the results will be different between the two groups. It would be interesting to find.
This is correct.

Cause it's respectful to take responsibility of your own body and create it likewise to God's image of us :)
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." ~1 Corinthians 6:19-20
But blindfolds would be convenient too :p
The apostle Paul was speaking of fornication, and should not be taken out of context.

Ladies, please don't listen to people like Misty77 who think that decency in dressing is legalism. Don't imitate the worldly fashion standards. When you dress modestly you are revealing your self-respect and glorifying God. :)

"
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works" (1 Timothy 2:9-10).
Continue reading, what would you suggest that the application of the next two verses would be?

Women certainly don't need to be wearing burkhas or anything idiotic like that. Myself, I find it much more attractive to see a woman in a conservative suit or a nice, conservative dress than wearing something, shall we say, revealing.

i'm sorry, but i have to say something here.

i fully respect, even admire that you choose to dress the way you do, because i trust that it is because you believe what is right for you, and you are dressing modestly in line with your level of conviction.

but my convictions are as strongly held as yours, and developed over time and experiences that have led me to what is right for me--considering that i swim regularly, you can be assured this is not a new issue for me (and probably not for many of us who chimed in).

modesty as it has been repeated multiple times here, is relative to the person's interpretation of both the concept and the scripture that discusses it. i appreciate very much your desire to fulfill what we are called to as women of God, but i would ask you to please remember:

simply because you choose a more conservative approach doesn't make your choice a more acceptable one to God than what my own conviction allows.

God doesn't talk to me about you and what the spirit convicts you of, and i can be fairly sure that he isn't talking to you about what is acceptable for me or others. it's unfair for you to imply otherwise.

i hope that this doesn't offend you, it's certainly not my intent. :)

Should men also cover-up on the beach? Is this better? :)

Gracious, gotta be dangerous wearing all those heavy swim suits. That lady to the right must have added 40 lbs to her weight due to pure decency. Sure hope she made it safely to the shore.

On a similar note, I remember watching a documentary on the hurricane that hit Galveston about a century ago. They credit the disproportionate deaths of the women to the weight of their clothing causing them to drown.

At the same time, I think guys can do something as far as attire. In church, for instance, I see a lot of casualness. Myself, I'm always in a suit (usually three-piece), a well-starched shirt (usually but always white), and a bow tie (yes, the kind you tie yourself!). Okay, my style might be a bit formal for most, but you get the idea.

The core problem is that women are shaped differently then men. Anything that makes them look different should be removed :p

Here's an example. At church a couple of Sundays ago, there was a very pretty young lady, probably in her early twenties. She was wearing a very conservative dark grey suit - a skirted suit, thankfully (pants suits are awful!), with the skirt down to her knee, along with what appeared to be a well-pressed white blouse, her collar snugly buttoned, and a pair of pumps. Some might criticize her for dressing like a librarian or something like that. I, however, found it refreshing to see a young lady that prim'n'proper. If I was a bit younger, I'd have tried striking up a conversation with her after church. Believe me, as pretty as she was, I'd guarantee you she's probably got no problem attracting young men, at least the kind she should want to attract.

If you want to keep your husbands heart use wise discretion. Our conscience can easily be seered with a hot iron and lead us astray. Don't let the world set your standards. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in all truth. Avoid all appearances of evil. Do not provide stumbling blocks for weaker sisters or brothers. Don't argue this topic with Godly men, sister. Let Godly mature woman judge this topic. You are a young Christian woman. Seek Godly woman's advice. God bless you daughter. Sincerely, Brokenclay.
I think you have misunderstood her. She has been proving to us that
dressing modestly IS Godly. I really feel you misread her intent. I do
hope you will apologize to her. How many young Christian Girls do you
know would take a stand for modesty, sir? I applaud her ~ J~K~2

Bow Tied, you are a breath of fresh air. I am so glad you found a lady in
Church dressed in a suit. That is so rare, no wonder she stood out. I say
God bless her, and I think if she continues to come to the same Church as
you, and she is single, let her know you feel she is a lady to be admired.
I don't think she would be offended.

Women would be surprised how man would prefer to wonder what is
under their clothing. We should never go to Church with mini skirts and
low cut tops. I have seen this and I ask, "Did that person look in the
mirror before she left the house ?" Yes, she did.... she knows. Or
parents, oh my gosh. I have seen teens dressed like a streetwalker,
and this is in Church. I am like, "Mother? where in the world is your
mind when you see her walk out of the house dressed like that? "
Then I look at Mother, Oh, yeah.... Just like Mother... Seriously.....
However, I do commend the Mothers who are good examples to
their daughter, and to the young girls who do not want to dress like
society says 'this is the way, do it.' Sadly there are parents trying
to find decent clothing for their teens. I have heard Mothers say it
is so difficult. Okay, nuff' said.... J~ K~ 2

I think it would be easier if girls just dressed modestly, and guys knew how to control themselves in whatever environment they are under. I know that it could be a heated debate, but from what I grew up understanding, it is important for girls to not make guys fall under all that temptation. It is one less temptation they need to worry about.

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." ~1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I applaud you and if you were my daughter I would be so proud
knowing you have wisdom and understanding of what God does
require of us. You have brought up a topic men should be giving
you accolades for. I simply can't believe some of the nasty things
said.

One thing brought up in the video reminded me of TARGET stores.
I am totally shocked at the skimpy bathing suits for teens on racks.
Otherwise I would not even know what the teens are wearing. I
think it is shameful for Mothers to buy the little toddlers skimpy suits.
We have a lot of sick minded men and some do not care if the person
is a child or adult.

Sadly we know it will only get worse, not better.
God Bless you now and for always. ~ J~K~2

Just as the confused new believers are misled, some who
have been Christians are beginning to become like the world.
Why ? Because many Churches are not speaking out the Word
of God. And you know if we love God as we say we do, we won't
want to do anything displeasing. I have to ask, if we really
receive God and the Holy Spirit lives in us, how do we not know
simply by conviction and the reading of the Word what is proper
and improper ? ~ J~K~2

I think everyone is different. Some may be new to the whole church thing and may be coming in what they have or what they can afford (if someone is new to the Christian faith yet is not very wealthy it may not be ideal for that person to get an entire new wardrobe), some may not think too deeply on their clothing while some may just not believe what they are wearing is causing someone to sin and finally some may not think they are sinning by what they wear. I think education on the topic is a good idea. For youth groups a bible study on the subject may be a good idea.

I actually agree with Misty on this. Your standard and someone else's may be TOTALLY different, and both be in line with the Truth. The reason she is saying you seem to be legalistic is because you basically said "girls have to do this" when it is defined in the bible what is or isn't modest. To you modest is less then a one piece. To me modest is a one piece, or a 2 piece that covers like 90% of the stomach.

In the end modesty is the best policy, but modesty is based off culture, and off conviction.

Girls must be modest so men aren't lusting 24/7.
Same time, men need to try to not lust.

It works the other way around too. Men need to be modest as well, granted girls tend to not be as physical as guys, they still are to some aspect.

How i go about modesty is I look at anyone I'm with and wonder 'Am I tempting them by wearing this anymore than I would with more clothes on?" If yes, then I put more on, if not, then I'm good. Sometimes guys and girls will be tempted no matter what (mainly guys) which is why theres the "anymore than I would with more clothes on" part :p.

Granted there are lines. If your conviction is a thong bikini is modest, then you need to be more convicted, but generally I feel that it needs to be based off culture, conviction, and company.
