I have no idea what to do myself. I was planning on making her dinner, but she decided on telling me she wasn't interested in anything I had planned for her. I am devastated as I find her attitude very selfish and now I have no clue what to do
Slow down and don't beat yourself up, or lean towards discouragement with Mom. Back up and be simple and give of yourself. Anything - a moment, or a card blank with your words on it,...etc etc. Trust me as a parent of three - this cannot go without notice and have an impact on her - touching her heart. God Bless you for thinking of your Mother enough to treat her to a dinner, but when you treat her to you instead in a simple gesture - it is more powerful than you think! May God richly Bless both you and she then in my prayer for you!

I'm sorry that your feeligs were hurt. I don't know the situation between you and your mom but give her a card a hug and or flowers and tell her you love her. Maybe she just doesn't want you to go through any fuss over her. Or maybe she just wanted a quiet day.

When my son asked me what I wanted when he was little, I'd tell him to draw me a picture. When he was a teen and asked, I'd say how about some pancakes. Now that he is an adult, I'd be happy with a phone call or a visit, he always did more anyway though. I never wanted him to spend his money on me, I wanted him to save it or use it for himself.

My mom was the same way with us and I wasn't sure what to do for her either coming up but now I understand why she said what she said.

Be encouraged and I hope you and your Mom have a Happy & Blessed Mother's Day.
Amen! - I had faith you would say that! LOL

My mother loves irises. Wanted to surprise her with some, but I don't think I have enough funds. She said something very touching to me this morning, at around 5 AM, when I found it very hard to sleep. She told me that I am enough of a present for her on Mother's Day and that the fact that I'm living under her roof and not in another state, far away from her, is her Mother's Day gift. It broke my heart. Don't feel like much of a daughter or even a human being, for that matter. There's a nice bottle of iris perfume that I plan on giving her, that I bought myself but do not use. It does smell amazing, but I never put it on. She likes it. Gifting it to her with an "I love you" message on it.

Also, my heart goes out to anyone who has lost a mother. The day my mother passes away is the day I will absolutely lose my mind. May not be able to keep on living when she's gone. She's the only friend I have.

As a parent that breaks even my heart - and you are not my child. That is lovely a gesture and I see your heart in it as well, she is a blessed Mother to have you! I prayed this prayer earlier on another thread but allow me to pray it here too, and thank you CandieM for your testimony it was touching:

A prayer for moms, for those who wait to be moms, and for all dear women who nurture and lead:

"Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of motherhood. Thank you for the blessing it is to be called "Mom." Thank you for the good plans you have in store for those who still wait to be a Mom. Thank you for the numerous spiritual children you have given to so many "spiritual moms" and mentors. We pray that you would fill this day with favor and grace as we honor Moms all around our nation.

We ask for comfort for those who are grieving loss and heartache, especially on this day. We ask for strength for those who wait for children to come back home. We ask for healing for those who have been hurt by relationships that were intended to be loving and nurturing. We ask for faith for those who will someday be Moms, who find themselves on a journey that seems so hard.

We ask for great encouragement and grace to cover those who have made a brave and loving choice for adoption. We ask for incredible provision and care over every single parent mom who works so hard on behalf of her children. We ask that you would remind many of those who, though they do not have "physical" children, have the gift of being amazing hope-bringers to many spiritual children they've been blessed to nurture through these years.

God, thank You, for the gift of life. Thank You that your heart is for us, and that You are with us, in all our unique journeys and pathways. Thank You that You are Sovereign over every part of our lives. Thank You that Your ways are perfect and You make our footsteps secure.

Today we pray for refreshing, for joy, for grace, for wisdom, for great peace...for all moms, for moms to be, and for women who nurture and lead.

In Jesus' Name I pray - Amen."

Your love for your mother, and her love for you, touches my heart. You blessed my day, thank you for sharing that.

I praise God for my dear children's love, including my precious in-law children. What an awesome gift to give your mother, the iris perfume. Please don't be down on yourself, Candie. As a mother, my greatest joy is seeing my kids happy. I'm sure your mother feels the same way about you.

God bless you, dear and I pray you & your mother enjoy a beautiful day together!!! :)
