I mean, it's a little dumb for an online push for this, but if the producers themselves wanted to do this, it's not like Sesame Street is a religious show, I'd be all for it. But until the producers want that, obviously not going to happen.

Personally, I don't know if Ernie and Bert should get married, but I wouldn't mind if they had a gay couple among the human characters. There are several married (heterosexual) couples; I think having a gay couple would help kids to learn that you might actually meet gay people in real life, and not to fear them or call them names.

If a parent doesn't like that message, there's this handy device all televisions are equipped with these days to shield your kids from messages you might not like on TV: it's called the POWER BUTTON.

I guess this whole situation begs the question, "Who cares?" Who cares if Bert and Ernie get married? They're puppets, and just like real life people I really don't care what they do as long as they're not trying to kill me.

I don't get it umm Bert and Ernie are just friends on the show. If they were Beth and Ernie would we want them married? Beth would be like "Ernie do I look fat in this dress?" and married Ernie would have to say "of course not no! You look great in that dress"

Non-married Ernie would be like "uhh yeah!"... enough said (-|

Interesting point.

Are there opposite-sex couple children's characters who are not romantically involved? Like, we all assume Kermit and Miss Piggy are "an item." So I think if it were "Ernie and Beth" or something, they would be a married couple.

As for your description/prediction of such a couple, it's completely unrealistic. There are lots of married couples on Sesame Street, and the producers see no reason to present the pettier and ugly traits of such relationships. Why would it start, just because a couple was gay?

As for the push to get them to have a gay wedding, it really is a non-issue. The writers of the show have no interest in taking it there, not because they're anti-gay, but because it really isn't appropriate to the audience.

They can, and maybe should at some point, have a gay relationship on the show. They regularly explore issues of race on the show, not by highlighting it, but by simply allowing people of all different races to get along with each other. The same should be true of any relationship. They shouldn't have to say, "Hey, here's a gay couple, wow, that's really cool." It's just realistic. I don't think there are many kids in this country who don't have a gay uncle or aunt, or some other family member, so it's not really that weird.

Yes.. for them to give children the message that homosexuality is ok,, that IS BIG DEAL!!!!

I know its not the greatest thing from a Christian standpoint, but a show itself isn't going to teach a child that its okay. If it were to come one t.v. it would be a great time for a parents to sit with their child and tell them that its not okay.:)

The whole thing is just ridiculous I remember when they first came on TV I loved that show I always thought they were brothers or friends it was a childrens show that was developed to keep all the toddlers occupied while mom supposedly cleaned the house thats why it came on in the mornings of course this was also the days when about 85 % of the workforce was male and the womens lib. movement of the 60's was very young.

Anyways nowadays it seems everything is being perverted in some way or another maybe I'm just getting old but man seriously!!!!

if you dont agree read your bible

*facepalm* Why do they have to get married? Can't they just stay best friends? That's insinuating that they are having gay sex... and that is NOT Sesame....

It's just another way for Satan to get everyone to accept sin. This does not teach children about sex or marriage, it teaches children about sin. And we who do nothing about it, or let our children watch this filth, are adding to the sin. I think it's terrible. I'm sorry, but too much right has been given over to sinful things, and we as Christians must stand up for the truth.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
