@Genipher not sure why you answering this thread about being an only child when you arent one yourself or giving examples of only children you know personally.

um no saying its absolute, not sure where you getting that from

I work in a public school lol

I notice 'only child' do interact differently to children that have siblings thats all. It can be a marked difference and teachers usually explain it by saying well she/hes an only child so doesnt know..!
Lanolin, I love your comments. You have an interesting way of thinking about things. Reminds me of one of my best friends, who is Chinese. She has a different way that she sees the world and responds. Makes for some awesome conversations and I love her to pieces. That said, you tend to make absolute statements when you comment. Like "all men do this" or "all single moms are like that". It just...might be something you should acknowledge as those kind of "absolute" comments can rile folks up. ;)

I know you work in a public school. That's why I asked if it was any better dumping kids off there, when they don't wanna be there, since you seem to be opposed to daycare. I figured you'd have some insight or reasoning why one is okay but not the other, since you work in that environment.

I only blabbed about the daycare aspect because you brought it up. o_O

My apologies for attempting a conversation on this thread. I'll just slink off and leave y'all to it. :cautious:

oh no worries genipher
I dont realise I was irking you when I say stuff thats just meant to be in general not absolute

sorry
Im posting another thread on family position...yes in Chinese families its quite important esp the only child thing (since China's ONE child policy, no doubt has affected the worlds Chinese population, at least) just want to have some insight

as far as public schools go, yes, SOME parents do use them as daycare but in general most want their children to have a good education and it will be much more than they can provide for them at home. Also many wont be able to afford private education, so there is that as well

though I think there are extremes and young children do need some sort of home life (not just be packed off to boarding school for example)

I actually do have cousin on dads side who had only one child a boy though they live in NYC so Im thinking that it must be hard to have a big family there...or expensive.
But since Manhattan is such a densely populated city maybe its not so bad to be an only child there. They all live in apartment buildings.
now his parents did split up, he gets to live/stay in two places. He did have a dog though with his mother
