Maybe it freaked me out because Voodoo is a real religion. I mean, it's simply fantasy for a "witch" who can throw fire balls to turn into a dragon and make an entire town fall asleep. But voodoo is a real religion, a real way of life, and a really scary form of witchcraft. The fact that the movie even specified that it was evil spirits from the other side helping out, and that they used magic relying on taking blood was extra scary. I think it just hit too close to reality for it to be acceptable. You can tell your children that genies are a myth, you can tell your children that there areno such thing as evil sorceresses who can turn into dragons, that there are no such thing as happy little fairies, that it's make believe. But how do you explain to your child that voodoo is a very real thing, that people actually hurt other people with it, and that it's an evil course of life and then let them watch a movie where it is both shown, and in parts, glorified?
