Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Hey everyone,

Our church conducted a workshop in preparation for Vacation Bible School where we learnt what our responsibilities were and immersed ourselves in prayer and worship for the opportunity to teach children at Vacation Bible School.

I am going to teach “Crafts and Play”. We are following the Group VBS 2015 program – “Everest- Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power”

Our church is so excited about this. We are going all around giving flyers and putting up posters encouraging people to send their children. We are expecting around 300 children - including non Christian children.

At the closing of the workshop we all went for a prayer walk around the church campus praying over every area for the children. We also prayed at every pew asking God to bless and be with us as we minister to the children.

We prayed that every child who walks in to church would be touched by God.

All of us hoped that we would have open hearts and minds to listen to the children and be able to comfort them and help them in case of any need.

Being in India, we also prayed for security.

We asked God to protect us and the children from any hindrance/opposition that would come from those who hate Christians. We also prayed for the families of the children that they would not put obstacles in the way of a child coming there.

I was hoping if any of you are VBS volunteers/teachers, this thread would be one where you could share your experiences about it.

Hopefully if you have any testimonies, anecdotes or experiences with other such programs in your church, do share!

God bless you
:)

I have been a Bible teacher in VBS several times. I loved doing it. We had prayer lists of our class and prayed for them for several months before VBS started. We started every day with prayer during VBS. A lot of children came to Christ.

We modeled our VBS on a sports camp, with an open session, crafts and of course, the Bible teaching and different sports. The group leaders talked to the children about Christ as they developed relationships with them. I talked to them about Jesus during the Bible teaching, and the open session was all about how to come to know Jesus and follow him. I think all the children enjoyed the sessions, and learned something whether they came to Christ or not.

One year I had a boy named Noah in my class. The second day, his parents took him out, because they did not realize it was a "Christian" camp. He was oriental, I didn't talk to the parents, but I assume they were atheists. I continued to pray for that boy for a long time after the VBS was over.

Of course, in Canada, we don't have to worry about security or safety - yet! I will add your camp to my prayer list, Rachel. Our VBS starts in July, during the summer here! I pray you have many wonderful days with the children, and that many learn and grow in Christ, or come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and their parents.

It is wonderful you are reaching out to your community with VBS in such a hostile environment.

I love what Jesus said about children in the verse you quoted. In His eyes there is no such thing as a non Christian child. This is a mighty work that you are involved with. God bless you too.
