Well Rock On!!! :)

I didn't start listening to the radio until about 1984, but to me, 80's music was (and still is) the bomb!

My favorite MJ song is probably "Smooth Criminal", followed by "Black and White".
Agreed! And yeah, both of those songs are great. :)

I have an honest question: I was wondering how the younger generation even gets into music that happened quite a bit before their time?

After all, Thriller dropped in 1982, which was quite some time before many of the posters here were even born.

I guess I'm just asking as someone who never got into the music of the previous generations, but I do realize people are all different. I'm just curious as to what got the younger members here listening to MJ in the first place?

I was never really into his music (I was more into Janet), but I admired MJ as a person because I think he handled the pressure he was under very gracefully, all things considered. I can't imagine what it must have been like living in a fishbowl that the entire world was watching, and the headlines made fun of him no matter what he did. I always felt sorry for him, because no amount of money could buy back his childhood, which he was always mourning the loss of.

When he died, I felt horrible (and still do) for his children. I can't imagine how those poor kids must feel--people can say what they will about MJ but I think he made an earnest attempt to be a good father, and he was obviously his kids' entire world. Now they probably feel as if they can't trust anyone because people will try to use them for the rest of their lives.

I do hope MJ was a believer. Maybe someday we'll all get to meet him.
these words touched my heart for my love for michael and my feelings about what he went through in life ... i honestly always been sorta a fan because my father played his videos at home when i was a little girl and i remember i liked the vids then my love for him as a fan and as a person grew more and more and now i'm here lol . i honestly will pick michael over any any artist in the world .. the industry and the media murdered his soul and his happiness and every time i think of it it makes me cry inside and i try to stay away from death things of michael on youtube or else i get this horrible feeling in my tummy and want to cry real bad so i watch things that make me smile and pretend he's alive still ... yes i believe his kids went through a real hard time ever since the trials until his death ... i believe paris isn't really doing positive things in her life and coping with herself and its a bit disappointing and im sure if michael was alive he'd be heartbroken because he didnt raise his daughter to be the way she is today but thats not my business honestly ... but apart from that yes he was a christian he read and knew the bible and loved children the way god says were supposed to ... i really hope i get to meet him .. i pray to god i meet him in gods kingdom ...

those songs are always gonna be good but i'd say my favorite songs are gonna be from dangerous album and history and invincible which sadly not many paid attention to the way it deserved it ...

I really like Michael Jackson, even from his early years with the Jackson 5. He was an incredible singer and performer! I remember watching him perform Dancing Machine on Soul Train in 1974 when I was only 8 years old. Yes, I'm old. lol ;)

Beyond his Moon Walk (which is more of green-eyed caterpillar than a like, methinks) I'm really not a fan.

I didn't care for the Invincible album. Very few of the songs sounded like him. I listened to 2000 Watts and was like "who on earth is this cuz it ain't MJ".. lol..

I'm a huge MJ Fan!!!

Such a wonderful talent gone from this world too soon...

If I'm not mistaken, the Jackson Family is/was Jehovah's witnesses...But I dont' think I ever heard Michael profess one belief or another.

Nevertheless, he was phenomenal. I loved all of his music!
Michael Jackson was exceptional entertainer and sorely missed by his many fans, myself included.

If resurrecting this thread after so many years is against the rules, I apologize. I just looked up Michael's name with the Search function, and a lot of threads already existed...so it seemed fairly pointless to make another one.

Anyway, I've been of his music since I was eight - he's one of the few artists I was allowed to listen to that wasn't outright "Christian only". I have most of his solo albums on CD, from 1979's "Off the Wall" to the 2014 posthumous release, "Xscape". Overall, I think he was an incredible musician, and I still listen to him on a somewhat-regular basis.

2 minute intro before interview starts if you want to skip that.
I like Weird Al too, though I do feel somewhat sorry for him as well. He's had so many hits, across a career of more than 40 years. And yet, the two songs many people still know him for are "Eat It" and "Fat". I don't deny the quality or entertainment value of those, but Al has done so much more...and in my opinion, he deserves more respect for it.

I can see why Michael Jackson returned Al's permission with a signed contract that he was co-writer of the song. Although the lyrics were rewritten, the music was his.

That was Als prime. He did a lot of good work since but that was his best. They were both very talented, great musicians and dancers on another level. Alvin had his Dad's influence, Frankie Yankovich, I think was his name. He travelled around here when my Mom was a little girl. Her family used to polka.

We all know Michael's background as a hard working talented performer as a child. That same work continued throughout adulthood.

Two things - Al's given name is Alfred, not Alvin. Second, he is not related to polka player Frankie Yankovic, though they did collaborate and were friends during Frankie's later years.

I like Michael Jackson because he was creative without vulgarity (for the most part). He also had a magical quality to his performances. It did seem like he was battling inner demons though.

Michael had many issues, mostly because of how his father Joe treated him and his brothers. Michael said several times in his life, that he lived in genuine fear of his father. Additionally, being constantly hounded and persecuted by the press made him very paranoid, which put a strain on his first marriage to Lisa Marie Presley. The only reason he even married Debbie Rowe was because his mother Katherine did not want her grandkids born out of wedlock. Add to that what had to be immeasurable scalp pain all the time, and that's why he started taking stronger painkillers.
