Imagine if there were no left or right, just everyone pulling together for the common good.

Everyone in agreement, all working for good?

Luckily the founding fathers knew this was impossible, because they understood the corrupt condition of human nature... therefore, they created a type of government which could ACCOMMODATE DISAGREEMENT, POLARITY, and even TYRANNY.

This was actually anticipated.
It is the very reason our government was set up the way it was.

Impossibility:

Biblically... it is IMPOSSIBLE for everyone to be working in perfect harmony for good.
This is impossible due to the fallen nature of man.
We need to rethink all the doctrines of sin, and why Christ had to die for us... and be sure we're looking at the world Biblically.

So slightly right? No wonder I trust their news! Good for them standing up against the mass leftist bias in this country. Like we need the Walrus, when we have CBC and CTV. Last election, the CTV crew was jumping up and down and saying "We won!" In their coverage of the election, as the votes came in. But, hey, biased reporting? As long as it is what you want to hear, it is all good!
I don't agree that left or right do biased reporting, new is news, I agree some of the comments can be biased but that goes under the umbrella of opinion.

The OP is an opinion piece in The Walrus, so it's not biased news.

Here is a similar opinion piece from The Washington Times:

It is an alarming headline: “America’s next Civil War will be worst than our last,” writes H.W. Crocker III, a historian and novelist who points out that in summer 1862, Union Capt. George Armstrong Custer attended the wedding of Confederate Capt. John “Gimlet” Lea at Bassett Hall in Williamsburg, Virginia, as best man.

Such “gallantry” between opposing sides, Mr. Crocker says, would be unthinkable these days.

“The difference between the America of today and the America of what seems like just yesterday is that we once had a common culture. As recently as 1990, Ken Burns could make a Civil War documentary for PBS and let historian Shelby Foote wax eloquent on the martial prowess of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest,” Mr. Crocker writes in a special report for the American Spectator, lamenting the ongoing cultural war on U.S. history which he says could erode national identity.

Ah... that explains a lot. Like why we constantly argue and belittle each other when God calls us to be of one mind. It's impossible to be of one mind! If only those who had written the Bible understood what our founding fathers understood - that one day we'd be on the brink of civil war because it's impossible for us to get along!

To "be of one mind" has nothing to do with politics, and it's absurd to invoke it in politics.

1. The Bible only expects CHRISTIANS to be of one mind... so this has absolutely nothing to do with politics, or the world at large... so applying this verse to politics is just really bad theology.... and silly.

2. Even AMONG CHRISTIANS, God KNOWS WE WILL FAIL AT THIS... that is why the Bible is full of principles with which Christians can resolve all their INEVITABLE CONFLICTS.

Conclusion:

1. The verse about "being of one mind" applies ONLY to Christians, not to the lost world.
(This is verified by simply opening your Bible and reading.)

2. Even Christians cannot "be of one mind" perfectly, as the bible explains very clearly that we all still sin, and there are even Bible principles for Christians to mitigate their conflicts.
(Again, this is verified by simply opening your Bible and reading.)

3. Therefore, there is NO WAY our entire country is every going to pull together into some kind of utopia, and all be "of one mind"... it WILL NOT HAPPEN... BECAUSE IT CANNOT HAPPEN.
(This can all be gleaned from just cursory Bible reading, or the most rudimentary study of theology... it's not deep.)

And vice-versa. Neither side can stand the thought of the other. Which is why both sides are to blame for the coming anarchy.
Actually no it is asymmetrical, it is the leftist/socialists that loose their minds, blame, refuse to look at the facts and take to the streets.

We just keep trying to educate you on how socialism fails over and over again,

Both right and left have lost their minds. But I don't really expect those who have lost their minds to be able to see that. Happy Thanksgiving!

If a country like America collapses it probably won't be long until the first nuclear warhead appears from a silo and the entire world descends into nuclear fallout. But we've got Jesus so don't worry.

Thank you...I do like Thanksgiving we had ours already in Canada.:D

When Obama was elected please tell one me instance when a known conservative (s) took to the street/campuses and began yelling and screaming towards the progressive left?

Why is it the conservative speakers always need to travel with a full expensive entourage of body guards when they speak and those on the left do not?

When someone from the left is invited to speak on campuses they are invited with are greeted with open arms.

So no, it is the left only that has lost its mind they cannot even tolerate free speech anymore, why....because it hurts their ears, they may get triggered and require a safe space.

What I suggest you do is spend some of your teachers union pension on Chrystia Freeland's Book" Plutocrats: the Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else" and then get back to me.

$25 is inexpensive edumacation.
Now Mr. Locutus,

I am well aware of this book, the author and her back ground and the supposed thesis of her book. Having studied economics in my undergrad, I regard her as a light weight in the world of economic theory.

Now you see, Mr. Locutus, it is not the high yield reviewers and spectators one should pay attention to, but the low yield, the one who states the Emperor has no clothes, like this reviewer on Amazon ........

This is an opinion, not a researched presentation of fact. If you would enjoy listening to a 16 year old tell you why minimum wage raises are great wile twirling her hair and chewing gum this book may be for you. If you have an sense and/or are an adult this book is rubbish. If the people who like to pretend their station in life is someones elses fault used the time spent reading drivel like this, actually trying to work out their life, they would be successful and not have to resort to these depths.

J. Lenglet

A plutocrat has no political philosophy and a plutocrat is not a capitalist.

I am not collecting a teacher's pension.....however, I am planning to reread Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations", now he was a true genius and more good news it is available for free on wiki media-commons.

No need to line Ms. Feeland's pockets especially considering who she serves under.:cautious:

Are you saying that journalists never intentionally misrepresent facts in order to bias a story?
Are you saying journalists never lie about the news?

I'll give you an opportunity to walk that back.

If you choose not to walk that back, I'll clear it up by posting videos of news agencies ADMITTING they LIE about stories.

America’s Next Civil War

The United States shows all the warning signs of impending social and political collapse

Everyone in Canada with any power has the same job. It doesn’t matter if you’re prime minister, minister of foreign affairs, or premier of Alberta; it doesn’t matter if you’re the mayor of a small town or a ceo of a major company, if you run a cultural institution or a mine. Canadians with any power at all have to predict what’s going to happen in the United States. The American economy remains the world’s largest; its military spending dwarfs every other country’s; its popular culture, for the moment, dominates. Canada sits in America’s shadow. Figuring out what will happen there means figuring out what we will eventually face here. Today, that job means answering a simple question: What do we do if the US falls apart?

Full article:

https://thewalrus.ca/americas-next-civil-war/
I hope it doesn’t happen. For both countries sake. One I am a American and do like it here . It’s not perfect but it’s imperfections are outweighed by what we have going for ourselves. Two if it dose happen Canada will get a huge illegal alien and refugee problem. Closing the border won’t work with desperate people fleeing conflict in a country that has 120 guns per 100 people. That would really throw a wrench into the works .
Blessings

I thought you claimed to be a teacher somewhere.

As for Freeland her book is not based on her "economic theories" but on her research years as a journalist for various outlets. Although she does give her "slant" the book references her sources for her research so they can be fact checked.

Same with Dark Money

If you would enjoy listening to a 16 year old tell you why minimum wage raises are great wile twirling her hair and chewing gum this book may be for you.
And you really think this is a decent review - did a Trump supporter write it?

I don't have to walk it back, there may be some who lie, but they get caught out pretty fast - just like the over 5000 lies and half truths Agent Orange has fed his base over the past few years.

And Max, what is the purpose of all the white space in yer posts?

I keep trying to think back when this was true, must have been a long time ago?

a very long time. I'd say about over 25 years now

when it took a turn for 'what do you think?' or 'what do you believe will happen?' and they all uncovered their crystal balls, a new era began

I could say some things about CBC and also Justin Trudeau's father but let's leave it at the files are very thick and yes I do know that for a fact

I don't have to walk it back, there may be some who lie, but they get caught out pretty fast - j?

So... the NEWS IS NOT BIASED, and if anyone in journalism does make a report using lies or bias they are quickly caught, and... then the lies and bias stop?

1. This is an extremely naive view of the world.

2. It is naive politically, historically, experientially, and certainly theologically.

3. The Bible says all men are fallen and corrupt, and goes further to say the love of money is the root of all evil... so considering these two eternal truths, you don't think media companies would lie for money?

4. The mere fact you bring up lies of Trump (which will usually be carried by Fox) just proves the point... news is OFTEN biased.

5. Below is one small bit of video evidence, showing that CNN promotes false stories, knowingly and systematically, for ratings.

CNN ADMITS the "Russia Story" is FALSE, and they promote this false story systematically, purely for ratings.
* VIDEO * CNN ADMITS "Russia Story" is Fake, but it's good for ratings.

1. There is mild cursing in the video, so I included a link only, not an embed of the video.

2. This is an undercover video, where a CNN Producer ADMITS the whole "Russia Story" is nonsense, and they know it's nonsense.

3. The producer admits they push the story for ratings, to make money, even though they know it's false.
(Any news to smear Trump is good for ratings because Democrats comprise over 60% of the CNN viewership, so CNN simply gives their target audience what makes them happy... so they keep tuning in.)

4. This producer admits the whole Russia Story is a "witch hunt", and they're completely aware of it.

5. The producer even laughs, and ridicules anyone who thinks there is "ethics" in journalism.

6. There are plenty of other videos showing similar things as the video above... this isn't really news.

Oops - missed this - seeing as you and Max are claiming false news maybe give a recent example or two Ms. Ugs.

I see the big bad wolf visited.

Fact check on CBC News:

I do have an issue with the "fact" site, it's rated by visitors and looks to be using generic labeling such as "They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes."

If you take this at face value I have a Peter Mans bridge to sell yer at a discount - new paving included. BigSmile.gif
