Praus, I'm pretty sure if you can quote Ovid, without being associated to his support in belief in many gods, then I can reference Ground Hog day without being associated with that lil quote from the movie...
Thank you, clearly I have a long way to go to bring every thought captive to Christ.

So:

Everything in drama is from Dionysus worship -> Theatre and Drama in Ancient Greece

"Of the four festivals in Athens (each reflecting seasonal changes), plays were only presented at one festival--City Dionysia."

Early Christians weren't fond of drama -> CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Theatre

"Considering the tone of what is preserved to us of the works of the Greek tragedians and even of the comedies of Plautus and Terence, it seems at first difficult to understand the uncompromising attitude adopted towards the theatre by Christian writers of the early centuries. But the fact remains that by the Fathers of both East and West all forms of the drama were banned indiscriminately and in terms of the severest reprobation."

Yet there's no shortage of drama all day long every day here on CC--lots of it is very funny!

A believer who's been studying scripture for 15, 30, 40 years and issues death threats, we should listen to them?

Are you delusional?
I am sorry you do not have the mental capacity required to understand the difference between a threat and analogy.

threat
: an expression of intention to inflict evil, injury, or damage

: one that threatens

: an indication of something impending <the sky held a threat of rain

anal·o·gy
noun \ə-ˈna-lə-jē\

: a comparison of two things based on their being alike in some way

: the act of comparing two things that are alike in some way

For you to continue to perpetuate the lie that you were threatened only demonstrates how far you are willing to go to cling to your belief that those who choose to use the tools (in this case a firearm) God provides to defend themselves or others from a violent criminal attack (in this case rape) are in error. I have already explained that was not the intent of my post. When you threaten someone you tell them about something that is going to happen in the future, not the past. The analogy used was written in past tense therefore it cannot be a threat. Continue to perpetuate that lie if you must. Just don’t be surprised if people doubt your love of the truth as a result!

2Th 2:10-11 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Enjoy your delusion.

Praus ... Clearly you and Rachel20 have made up your minds ... Scripture instructs us that if one does not want to hear our words to shake the dust off our feet and move on. So I think I will join my friend AOK, shake the dust off my feet and move on.

-> Through the Looking-glass, by Lewis Carroll

"... the Queen said with great decision: 'nobody can do two things at once, you know. Let's consider your age to begin with—how old are you?'

'I'm seven and a half exactly.'

'You needn't say "exactually,"' the Queen remarked: 'I can believe it without that. Now I'll give YOU something to believe. I'm just one hundred and one, five months and a day.'

'I can't believe THAT!' said Alice.

'Can't you?' the Queen said in a pitying tone. 'Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes.'

Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said: 'one CAN'T believe impossible things.'

'I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day.

Why,
sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!'

The brooch had come undone as she spoke, and a sudden gust of wind blew the Queen's shawl across a little brook. The Queen spread out her arms again, and went flying after it, ...

Praus I have moved on. My post was not an attempt to convince you or Rachel20 that a firearm can be an effective tool used to defend others or themselves.

It was on the other hand a case of defending myself against some one who uses my words deceitfully by resorting to an outright lie about what was said!

Now your advocating yourself instead of firearms--note that neither of those is Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:7-8 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

antitroll.jpg

Once upon a time there were three lambs, who were to go up to the hillside to make themselves fat, and the name of all three was "Christian."

On the way up was a bridge over a cascading stream they had to cross; and under the bridge lived a great ugly troll named pseudodoulos, with eyes as big as saucers, and a nose as long as a poker.

So first of all came the youngest lamb to cross the bridge.

"Trip, trap, trip, trap! " went the bridge.

"Who's that tripping over my bridge?" roared the pseudodoulos the troll.

"Oh, it is only I, the tiniest lamb, and I'm going up to the hillside to make myself fat," said the lamb, with such a small voice.

"Now, I'm coming to gobble you up," said the pseudodoulos the troll.

"Oh, no! pray don't take me. I'm too little, that I am," said the lamb. "Wait a bit till the second lamb comes. He's much bigger."

"Well, be off with you," said the pseudodoulos the troll.

A little while after came the second lamb to cross the bridge.

Trip, trap, trip, trap, trip, trap, went the bridge.

"Who's that tripping over my bridge?" roared the pseudodoulos the troll.

"Oh, it's the second lamb, and I'm going up to the hillside to make myself fat," said the lamb, who hadn't such a small voice.

"Now I'm coming to gobble you up," said the pseudodoulos the troll.

"Oh, no! Don't take me. Wait a little till the big lamb comes. He's much bigger."

"Very well! Be off with you," said the pseudodoulos the troll.

But just then up came the big lamb.

Trip, trap, trip, trap, trip, trap! went the bridge, for the lamb was so heavy that the bridge creaked and groaned under him.

"Who's that tramping over my bridge?" roared the pseudodoulos the troll.

"It's I! The big lamb," said the lamb, who had an ugly hoarse voice of his own.

"Now I 'm coming to gobble you up," roared pseudodoulos.
Well, come along! I've got two spears,
And I'll poke your eyeballs out at your ears;
I've got besides two curling-stones,
And I'll crush you to bits, body and bones.

That was what the lamb said. And then he flew at the pseudodoulos the troll, and poked his eyes out with his horns, and crushed him to bits, body and bones, and tossed him out into the cascade, and after that he went up to the hillside. There the lambs got so fat they were scarcely able to walk home again. And if the fat hasn't fallen off them, why, they're still fat; and so,

Snip, snap, snout.
This tale's told out.

With all due respects to all opinions expressed here, may I add...

a) Jyoti Singh Pandey and Esther Anulya would be alive today if they had a gun in their hand and I am sure their families wish they did.

b) Arguments can be made for and against Gun ownership.

That being said, I believe God is not against self defense. Luke 22:36 He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

And hides behind younger women too.
I stopped frequenting this thread because it continued on a downward spiral. Do not throw me in the middle of your arguments with others where you have deliberately misconstrued and twisted others words to make you and others look like a victim.

Leave me out of it.

Be of good cheer, Christ is the answer.

... All I did was give back to you what you are displaying in this thread. If you do not like others talking negative about where you live then don't do the same. It's pretty simple. ...

I made my peace long ago. What gives you the right to continue to harass and instigate arguments with others who have removed themselves from the conversation?

Col 3:13 Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Romans 12:19
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

1 Peter 3:9
Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

Oh. I thought this was said earlier....

If one feels threatened about internet harassment and cyberstalking then one should not provoke others. You're not a "victim" if you instigated it.

You did support Doulos' story and tried to justify his writing about my death .

This was by no means a death threat.
All he did was tell a story that I have told many times on CC. Except I didn't use a particular name. Even if I did it wouldn't be a threat, and stating that someone carries a gun is not a threat either.

I don't recall your making peace with me about this or many of the statements that you made in some of the pages like insulting Qatar, or calling me hateful and twisted etc.

However you did say you had no hard feelings, for which we are very grateful. I don't have any either :)

Peace.

Hi Cipher, my beloved sister in Christ.
I know we already agreed to disagree about gun ownership.

However I have to say I find that the ''what if's'' as very painful in perspective of the victim.

Nothing is going to bring them back and conjecturing if they had a gun or if they had a knife , they would be alive, I believe is not edifying to their families.
It pushes the family to guilt and regret. All I can say is God is sovereign over all and He is just.

He knows our lifespan and He knows our days, they were numbered long ago. I cannot say if they had a gun, they would have lived.

Who knows?

Even for the case of Nirbhaya, I found it appalling when media and people threw statements like ''Oh she shouldn't have been out late at night with a man", "she shouldn't have taken a private bus", ''She should have carried a knife'' etc etc

We can use incidents like these to alter our policies and try to prevent reoccurence, however I still stand by what I say as guns are not the solution.

Much love and regards, sis.
Rachel.

If you honestly feel that your life was threatened or that doulos was inappropriate about his story then it I would suggest reporting him. Death threats here aren't taken lightly. I don't feel he threatened you, and I see it was blown way out of proportion, but that's just me. The best way to handle a situation like this is to have an administrator look over the situation instead of it continuing to be brought up.

I do recall stating that I am finished with the arguments in this thread, and even said you could have the last word. I even apologized to you for thinking any of what I said was due to racism which certainly wasn't that case.

If you do not support gun ownership that is entirely up to you. Considering you live in a different country, and culture I respect that. If I lived where you do I may feel that same, but I do not live there. I do support the right to defend oneself. That doesn't mean anyone has the right to take someones like, and I pray that I am never in a situation where that could happen.

There were times when you did seem extremely hateful and sarcastic, but I can be the same way so it would be wrong for me to fault you on that if I am just as guilty. As far as insulting Qatar all I did was post information about certain laws there. Some of them seem rather bizarre, but then again that is due to cultural differences. Again, If I or anyone was inappropriate then report posts. Administrators can handle situations instead of us beating a dead horse.
I don't know you. You don't know me, and I certainly don't have the desire to argue with a complete stranger over a matter of opinion. I don't mind posting in this thread, but continuous, childish debates I will not longer take part in.

In closing if I did upset or offend you in any way then I do apologize.

I'd carry a firearm with me to protect myself or a loved one. Why not? Countless times God has permitted Christians to suffer and die without his physical protection. Why would I trust him to protect me physically in this case? Sure, I trust him to do what he says he'll do. But he never guarantees us physical protection 100% of the time in this life. In fact in some cases he guarantees us the opposite. He tells us that we'll be persecuted, tortured and killed. Even if you believe God would protect your life, then that doesn't extend to protection from physical rape. Now if a woman were raped because she refused all protection, then I'm sure God could take that evil situation and work it for good. But I'd just as well avoid that evil altogether.

Proverbs 19:3 A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the Lord.
I don't want to be the person described above. Do you?
