Poor man. Stockholm syndrome and PTSD will plague him for the rest of his life. I wonder how long until we get the full story. 10-50years probably.

He's a straight deserter and should be punished as such. Illegally releasing five Muslim terrorists from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for him was a very poor thing to do imo.

When did you hold the trial? What evidence did you bring?
What were the exact words of your summary judgement?

Having never served in a military unit David_1, you can go pound sand. His old unit hates him, lost men killed over his desertion, and asserts he deserted.

Fellow soldiers call Bowe Bergdahl a deserter, not a hero - CNN.com

When CNN interviewed his old unit they stepped forward. "It was unbelievable," the soldier said. "All because of the selfish act of one person. The amount of animosity (toward him) is nothing like you've ever seen before."

That Bergdahl was freed in an exchange for five detainees at Guantanamo Bay is a further source of consternation. "I don't understand why we're trading prisoners at Gitmo [and high ranking Taliban leaders for that matter] for somebody who deserted during a time of war, which is an act of treason," Vierkant said.

But Bathhouse Barry's going to promote the deserter.

I served in the 101st Airborne Division. I admire the courage of the warriors who risked their lives and died trying to rescue this deserter. It is a General Order that you do not leave your post until properly relieved. I am sure that the military will read him his rights before bringing the full force of the UCMJ to bear on him. Of course, the president will probably give him a full pardon before it reaches that stage. Guy is a disgrace to the uniform I once proudly wore.
