Another, more detailed, account would be helpful.
Provide it then.

From what I gathered from the news this coward was the only one armed. Shot an unarmed person to death.

A gutless wonder in my books.

Try as I may David, I cannot find an article that tells me:

1. How or why it started.

2. If there was an initial strike and from what direction it came.

3. If it ended up on the other ground.

4. If there were please for the other person to stop.

5. If serious bodily harm was imminent.

6. The relative size of the man who shot the other.

7. The relative skill in hand to hand fighting.

All of these should be taken into account before we go about labeling a man who used a gun as a coward. He could very well have been a coward. I would need to know more before I can say it was justified.

To say "he used a gun, therefore coward" is a pretty simplistic way of judging the situation though. So many things we simply don't know.

Then there is Japan, which has less than 2 firearm deaths per year! Not bad for a country of 122 million people

A Land Without Guns: How Japan Has Virtually Eliminated Shooting Deaths - Max Fisher - The Atlantic

"Of the world's 23 "rich" countries, the U.S. gun-related murder rate is almost 20 times that of the other 22. With almost one privately owned firearm per person, America's ownership rate is the highest in the world; tribal-conflict-torn Yemen is ranked second, with a rate about half of America's."

The US and Yemen, eh?

Sure, guns don't kill people. Except in the US and Yemen!

Guns kill people in the US, but not so much in other countries like Switzerland!

"Approximately 60 per cent of all homicides in the United States are committed with a firearm. In Canada, that number is a mere 30 per cent. In France, it’s less than 10 per cent and in Japan a mere 1.8 per cent.
Globally, an average of 32 per cent of all homicides are committed with a firearm.
What’s strange is that there are high rates of gun ownership around the world, but people in the U.S. use their guns to kill each other far more frequently.
Switzerland, for example, has the third highest rate of gun ownership in the world, but is 45th in the world for homicide with a firearm.
Canadians, as well, own guns at rate of 30.8 per hundred people — 13th highest in the world — but 56th in terms of killing each other with those guns.
The U.S. doesn’t even have that high a murder rate. At 4.8 homicides per 100,000 people, their murder rate is lower than that of 102 other countries in the world. Canada’s rate is a mere 1.6 per 100,000 people.
What makes the U.S. different is that when they kill each other, they have a habit of using guns. Guns, as it turns out, are particularly suited to killing more than one person at a time.
It’s true that Americans have developed a culture around gun ownership that is unique in the world.
But it is not true that Americans are particularly trigger-happy or particularly murderous.
Americans have developed that reputation because they use guns to commit murders in far greater proportions than other countries.
Gun control, especially background checks and enforced limits on assault weapons, will invariably be part of the solution to solving gun violence problems in the U.S..
But it’s possible that a strong public education campaign could trigger a national identity shift to turn the U.S. into the next Switzerland, where gun ownership is high — but gun murders are astonishingly low.

"Some studies have examined the link between gun ownership rates and firearm death rates, with one comparing rates in Canada, the US, England/Wales and Australia. It concluded that 92 percent of the variance in death rates was explained by differences in access to firearms. The rates of death from firearms in Canada in the United States have also been studied, with one of the most well-known analyses being a comparison of Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia that showed that despite similarities in size and demographics, the rate of firearm homicide is considerably different as a result of the differences in the availability of firearms in the two countries." (PS. Same climate and only 2 hours apart on the I5 - I was always scared to walk the streets at night after hockey games for my sons, because of the danger of being shot from afar!)

Coalition for Gun Control - An Overview of Gun Control in US, Canada and Globally

(Sorry if I am getting into stats, but the overview of the US is not pretty. I am not against guns for hunting, for farmers protecting livestock, and I hunted with my father when I was a child, although I have been a vegetarian for health reasons. But semi-automatic weapons in the hands of civilians seem like you are just asking for mass murders. I hope no offense is taken, but rather this thread can show the differences between countries with gun control and those with little or none. Americans have taken self protection to a new low, in allowing the mentally ill, the disaffected and the bizarre to legally own guns resulting in taking the lives of innocent people.)

Mass shootings in the US. I was just thinking back to the first one I heard about back in 1966, which shocked me to death, having just returned from living in the US for 1 1/2 years!

University Of Texas Tower Sniper Recalled - CBS News

25 Deadliest Mass Shootings in U.S. History Fast Facts - CNN.com

The more and more I look at these mass shootings, which are basically impossible to stop, and the more I hear Americans protest about the right to bear arms, the more convinced I am that the US is morally corrupt! Or insane! (As in paranoid or something!)

PS. Canada has had a few mass shootings too! But at least it is in spite of gun control, not because of the lack of it!

INTERACTIVE MAP: Mass shootings in North American history | canada.com

"Over the past few decades, there has been no shortage of gun violence plaguing North American cities. From the Montreal Massacre that killed 15 people and wounded 14 others, to last night’s block partyshoot out in Toronto that left two dead and 19 wounded, senseless violence has become a shockingly regular part of modern life."

Again, the result was that cowardly people murdered innocent victims. Guns don't work in Canada either!

Yes, Angela.

A gun is a weapon that is so deadly, just one pull of a trigger and it's the end of a person's existence on earth.

That's the level of responsibility, and to see it handed over so easily, to people who have no compassion, is just pathetic.

Racist gun attack -

45-year-old man, shoots and kills 17 year old teenager, after complaining about his loud music.

Defendant Michael Dunn claims he felt threatened after he pulled up next to victim Jordan Davis and his friends at a Jacksonville convenience store parking lot. After Dunn asked Davis and his friends to turn the music down they were playing in their sport utility vehicle, a dispute emerged between them. One witness heard Dunn say, “You are not going to talk to me like that,” according to the police. Dunn then allegedly pulled his gun out of his glove compartment and fired several shots into the SUV where Davis was sitting with three friends. Several witnesses to the shooting say they saw no physical altercation. Dunn then fled the scene and was apprehended by police a day later. Davis died in the arms of his friend in the car, unarmed, according to his father. No guns were found inside the car.

Letters by Dunn from jail released this week by the State’s Attorney’s Office reveal disturbing racial animus. In a letter to an unknown recipient highlighted by Jacksonville’s WTEV, he writes:
It’s spooky how racist everyone is up here and how biased toward blacks the courts are. This jail is full of blacks and they all act like thugs. This may sound a bit radical but if more people would arm themselves and kill these **** idiots when they’re threatening you, eventually they may take the hint and change their behavior.

Florida Man Who Shot Black Teen After Loud Music Dispute Sent Racially Charged Letters From Jail | ThinkProgress

Here's another news about this

A Florida jury has convicted Michael Dunn of three counts of attempted murder for opening fire on a car of unarmed black teenagers during an argument over loud rap music at a gas station. But the jury deadlocked on the most serious charge, the first-degree murder of 17-year-old Jordan Davis, forcing the judge to declare a mistrial on that count. Dunn, who is white, shot at the vehicle carrying Davis and his friends 10 times. He then fled the scene, went to a hotel with his girlfriend and ordered pizza. He never called the police. Citing Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, Dunn’s attorneys had claimed the shooting was justified because he had felt threatened by the teenagers. But prosecutors said the teenagers were unarmed and never left their vehicle.

Even blind men are handed guns - and are allowed to get away with it. Coward laws.

Blind Florida Man Gets Guns Back After Shooting Friend to Death

Even though the he said he didn't want to do it, a judge in Seminole County, Florida, was forced to return a Glock pistol and a rifle to a blind man who won immunity for killing another man under the state's "stand your ground" law.
The surreal hearing took place in the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford—the city where Trayvon Martin was killed and his shooter set free under the same self-defense statute.

John Wayne Rogers had stood accused of premeditated first degree murder for shooting a "drinking buddy" in March 2012 "after a long drinking session," according to the Orlando Sentinel. The killing was done "once in the chest with a .308 Remington assault rifle from a distance of 18 inches or less."
But amid differing eyewitness accounts at his trial last month, a judge dismissed the jury and awarded Rogers immunity under Florida's "stand your ground" law.
That led to Thursday's hearing, in which Judge John Galluzo reluctantly admitted he'd have to give Rogers his rifle and a Glock 10 mm handgun. "I have to return property that was taken under the circumstance," the judge said. "I have researched and haven't found case law to say otherwise."

Rogers—who has done probation for firing 15 rounds at a cousin and was jailed for pushing and punching a woman in a domestic disturbance three years ago—will have to buy new ammunition, however, since the state considered his cache "too old and dangerous."
In the interview above, when asked why a blind man should be armed, Rogers tells WESH-TV: "It's my constitutional right." He later adds, "I have been through enough, and I would like to retire."

Meanwhile in Libya:

"Handicap International in Libya found that guns were the greatest threat to civilian well-being. A 2012 HI report states that in October and November 2011, at the end of the civil war, 400 people were killed in Tripoli as a result of gun accidents. HI's shift to a focus on guns is supported by further data. In the first half of 2012, over 1,100 Libyans were treated for gun-related injuries in Tripoli, as opposed to 213 injuries from mines and other explosives in all of Libya. From children finding guns and accidentally firing them, to arguments getting out of hand, to bullets falling after celebratory gunfire, Libyans were simply unprepared for the inundation of small arms that they suddenly faced."

Michigan man kills himself while demonstrating gun safety

A Michigan man from Independence Township accidentally killed himself after reportedly firing a gun into his head while attempting to demonstrate how safe the weapon was.

The 36-year-old man’s girlfriend told law enforcement that he’d been drinking throughout the day when the incident occurred Sunday evening. Police told the Oakland Press that when they arrived at the home, the girlfriend was performing CPR on the man. He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities have declined to release the names of those involved until the family has been notified. The girlfriend had been living with the man at the time with her three children, aged seven, 10, and 12.
According to the Oakland Press, the man was explaining to his girlfriend that his three guns were safe when not loaded. Police said he put two guns to his head and pulled the trigger, but when he did the same with the third gun, it discharged and a bullet went into his head.

“(The situation) is pretty unique, as I have never heard of anyone testing out the safety of a gun by pointing at their head and pulling the trigger,” Undersheriff Michael McCabe told the newspaper.

The man's death has been ruled a suicide by the Oakland County Medical Examiner.

There have been numerous incidents related to accidental gun discharges over the last few years. Last week, a Florida man accidentally shot himself in the leg after leaving a gun safety class and manipulating his weapon in the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital and treated.

Just two months ago in Michigan, the vice president of the United Automobile Workers union, General Holiefield, mistakenly shot his wife in the stomach while cleaning a loaded gun. Fortunately, she survived the incident, and Holiefield pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges.

In August 2013, meanwhile, the instructor of a gun safety class in Ohio accidentally shot one of his students while he was demonstrating the firearm to the class. He apparently did not realize the gun was loaded, and the boy survived after being struck in his arm.

As far as I know, guns laws are very strict in India. One needs to get license first to procure non-assault guns.
So husbands and wives are maybe less likely to shot each other accidentally over breakfast, then...

Blessings.
