Yep
Believe it was the third verse that mention killing slaves

“And where is that band who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion A home and a Country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

The reference to “hireling and slave” in the fifth line of the third stanza has been cited as proof that the anthem itself is racist, and that honoring it honors racism, police brutality, and white supremacy. Such claims are patently absurd, and lack both context and common sense. Many historians agree that Key’s reference to “hireling and slave” is a reference not to the abhorrent practice of holding humans as chattel property by plantation owners, but to the British military’s practice of forcibly conscripting troops to serve in its ranks. This interpretation makes sense, since the poem is about the battle for Fort McHenry, not plantations in Virginia. Honoring the anthem is not honoring racism or white supremacy; it is honoring a nation that has constantly reapplied its founding principles to expand the rights and protections of our Constitution to all citizens of the Great Republic. It was a poem written for a nation fighting for its right to exist, not for a nation seeking to subject its own citizens.

Historians differ as to their opinions. But I find it hard to believe that progressive libs can find hidden racism in the Star Spangled Banner but miss the racism in Planned Parenthood founder Sanger,or in Darwins book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection: The Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life." Odd how they missed that second one, huh?

Injustices, inequality and police brutality against minorities, specifically black people.
It's pretty clear. I'm from Australia and I know what they are protesting.
It's not rocket science.

Facts to back that up???

As opposed to what other sort of protest?????????
You know,Im asking all over and not one person can tell me where I sign up for that job. You know, that job where I get paid millions of dollars to protest while on the clock while the customers complain that I'm not doing my job. Not one person can tell me where I get a job like that.

Isn't it hypocritical of people to bring up domestic abuse, rape, etc. when these same people are (or have been) supporting teams with these kind of players? As a Cowboys fan, you cheered for Ezekiel Elliot. So where was the outrage with him? Not saying one is greater than the other. I just find it a little hypocritical when people are throwing those things out there but weren't threatening to boycott the sport back then.

I'm not a fan of football or any team. I'm Canadian where hockey is the game. But I'm not a sports fan. Now if I were I would be a fan at the college level, where they are held accountable for actions. But otherwise,Im not a sports fan.

You were posting earlier how the Cowboys are America's Team. I'll ask again. Isn't it hypocritical of people (as in many individuals) to bring up domestic abuse, rape, etc. when these same people have been cheering for teams that have players with said offenses? It seems to me that people are more outraged over a peaceful protest than they are of hitting a child, hitting of a woman, or raping of a woman. As long as you can produce results, though, I guess it doesn't matter. Right?

No,I was joking with another poster about sports and in that post I said "my husband says" and he's been a sports fan for years. I know zip about sports people other than what hubby tells me,and now the post that Oncefallen linked to players arrest records. My husband answers for himself but he does listen to me.He was liberal when we met and is now a proud conservative. He was pretty upset that the team he thought would never take a knee did just that. And Im pretty sure he's done, but thats his choice.

I'm not outraged over protest. I'm outraged that these hypocritical men will not stand for the flag and disrespect the country, and those that have given life and limb for that flag. Not to mention taking a knee on foreign soil yet standing for their anthem! But thats not the end of it,adding to that the aforementioned arrest records I'll add an earlier post I wrote here...

"When the NFL takes a knee for battered women, then they'll have my support. When the NFL takes a knee against abortion {black women being the most likely to have an abortion} then they will have my support. When the NFL takes a knee against racist Planned Parenthood founder Margret Sanger, then they will have my support. When the NFL takes a knee against black on black crime {see Chicago news} then they will have my support. When the NFL takes a knee against BLM and Black Panthers, then they will have my support. When the NFL takes a knee against black fathers absent from the home leaving kids without a father,{stats are extremely high} then they will have my support. "

I take domestic abuse seriously having family members who have faced this. I do not know what the rules are in the NFL about domestic abuse and if they are legally able to fire a player over it. If they are they ought to fire anyone in ANY team that commits domestic abuse,or they should be forced into anger management if they are not able to fire them.

Do all black lives matter? Apparently not the unborn. Do you know that 78% of PP clinics are in minority communities? And that founder Sanger called minorities "human weeds"? Did you know that blacks are 12% of the population but have 35% of the abortions? Where's the outcry and knee taking over that?! No,this is about resisting a president, not about speaking for those that have no voice. Or Planned Parenthood would be the biggest target of protest, last time I checked,it wasn't!

I see both sides of it. The anthem speaks for different people. It's kinda like worship. Pastors ask us to stand for it. Not everyone does. Pastors don't (or at least shouldn't. There are crazy churches out there) force people to stand. Worship is a moment between an individual and God. Like the anthem, it represents each person differently. As long as you're quiet and you pay your attention/respect to the flag and singer, I don't have an issue with it.

My whole point is on those who bring up the domestic violence issue. It's an issue to people, but not so much to where they are going to boycott games. Yet the kneeling of the anthem is the straw that breaks their back. You may not speak for your husband, but you do know him really well. Did he have an issue with the domestic assaults going on in the NFL? If so, did he take a stand and boycott the league? It's fine if he did. But if he's one of many others that try using it to justify his position on standing for the anthem, then he's a hypocrite. It'd be like me taking issue on how much someone has given to a hurricane relief fund if I hadn't given any money myself.

I don't think people should be forced to stand, but it might be better to stay off the field till the anthem is over. The fans seem very upset over it if what I see on sports pages is any indication. People are dropping sports packages so fast they can't keep up to it. So they may have shot themselves in the foot here.

People should boycott over domestic abuse,at least I believe they should. And yes, hubby disagrees with domestic abuse 100% Now whether he boycotted,I do not know.I do know he's stopped his support of teams at different times and stopped buying their gear,I'd have to ask as to the reason.Again,I really care little for sports.

All that being said there a lot of things to be boycotted on top of sports. I used to be a fan of Johnny Depp and watch his newest movies. Since his latest comment on killing the pres. I have not supported his movies. And he's joined a long list of actors/singers,movies and tv shows that I will not watch any more nor support with my money. And stores like Target and Star Bucks have joined the list. I know we can't boycott everything but there are some things worth standing for.For me,the flag is one of them, and I'm not even from this country. Sometimes,it seems people who are not American, but come to live here, have more respect for the country and the flag than Americans do.

There was a time period in which teams weren't on the field for the anthem. Do people know this? No. Both the right and left have fallen into the media's hole of yet another "us or them" mentaility. The anthem also wasn't aired on television except for the Super Bowl. This is something that just didn't happen. It's been happening. One photographer just happened to take one photo, which resulted into this. The media is having a laugh as it continues to pull its puppet strings.

I believe there is a kernel of truth in that. The question is why are they doing it and how does it benefit them?

The mainstream media hates the president. Trump shot off fireworks in the sky with his tweets about this. Anyone who didn't see more of these protests and stories coming are too busy sticking their heads in the sand. This Isn't going to go away, especially the more Trump continues to tweet and talk about it.

Sorry wrong person. Forgive me. As to Trump and the NFLsoap is still the best. As far the song it was a grand tribute to vets everywhere even us vets of the forgotten war. My brother-in-law was one of seven out of a company of200 that came back from Nam.

When we're putting people in jail for smoking a plant then that kind of resembles a police state. The War on Drugs has the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the American people. America has the biggest prison population of any country in the world. Private owned prisons are a huge cash making machine meanwhile it cost taxpayers billions. And as I have already stated, police officers are rarely ever prosecuted when they break the law.
You're throwing out straw man arguments because I'm not anti-government at all. I just feel like government has too much reach into our personal lives. Who do you think is bringing in the drugs in the first place? That would be the CIA. How many people die every year from alcohol related issues? Millions Maybe? How many die from smoking a plant? That would be 0. It's all about money at the expense of taxpayers.
Setting up straw men to knock them down, then accuse others of it?
The dope has obviously stunted you to the point where
you're incapable of having intellectually honest dialogue.

Actually have awoken the hard working Americans who spent years watching their freedoms taken away, and their hard earned money given to people who do not work for it, and mock the ones who give it. Thats why trump Got in to begin with.
Are you saying the confederate battle flag has done this? I don't get it.
