Patriotism isn't just about waving the flag, shouting WE'RE #1 and demanding that anyone who doesn't agree with you, to get out.

Sometimes, being a patriot means taking a look at your country and being willing enough, and brave enough to say "We need to do better"

We can't call ourselves the "Land of the Free" if we all aren't equally free.

We can't say "Liberty and Justice For All", if all of us don't experience either liberty OR justice equally.

We have to be willing to have that conversation and recognize where America does indeed fall short of it's promise to ALL of her citizens. And then be willing to take steps to correct those issues.

Patriotism is ALSO about taking the blinders off and realizing that not all Americans had the same experience. Some of us live in a starkly different America than others.

We are no less American than anyone else. But its times like these, when we try to make our voice heard that we are often reminded that in the eyes of many to include not just the occupants of the White House, but also many "normal" folk, that we're still not as American as everyone else.

I believe in my country.
But I believe that my country can do better.

I refuse to believe that the people who hate that some of us are taking a knee during the National Anthem don't know WHY we're doing it.

They just need to CARE. The kneeling of Kapernick and many others may or may not got results but it has caused many conversations and noone can say what will come of it.

It's always, "It's not the right time!" Well when is it? It doesn't seem to matter in which manner it is done peacefully, someone finds fault in it.

Lastly it was a Veteran that suggested that Kapernick to kneel instead of sitting to show respect to those who served.
Nate Boyer, a former Army Green Beret turned NFL long snapper, penned an open letter to Colin in the Army Times.
That's exactly the point I'm trying to convey but everybody's too "MURIKA" to comprehend this

They fought for PEOPLE
the flag represents those PEOPLE, the star spangled banner was a song written ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE!

Again, Have you studied the history of the song or not? If not. Then you have no argument. Because you do not have the facts.

thanks, you just proved you have no idea what the song represents.

the third verse is about England, and our war against th4em, which was so fierce, there was no hiding place (place of refuge) for hurling or slave.

If you do not want to study the history of the song and what it represents, then just say so.

The song was inspired because a flag which represented a victory over British forces was raised, It kept getting bombed by British ships, and falling, yet it would raise again, Evvertime a few soldiers would raise the flag they would be killed trying to hold it up. More American fighting men came and lifted it up. Then they would die, this went on all night, in the morning when the sun rose, It was still standing, MANY MANY MEN gave their lives to make sure that symbol of freedom and victory and unity was still raised. That is what inspired the song.

the song was a military song, adopted by the military to represent the men and women who gave their lives for this country so it could remain free. Evcentuyally the USA government adopted this song as its national anthem.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MEN QANDS WOMEN WHO DIED FOR US, and GAVE US THE FREEDOMS WE ENJOY.

I served that flag for 15 years until I hurt my back and they retired me. So that flag holds special meaning to me. And every brother and sister who served with me in the military that I know (I know not all do. We even have left wingers in there)

There are veterans who support the protest. Including a buddy of mine who served in Afghanistan. He told me he feels like he didn't serve his country for America to become a police state

Lol.. whatever dude, It is not a police state to expect people to honor the flag and the men and women who died for them.

We are protesting them, and will continue to do so as long as they dishonor our flag. I hope states who are threatening to pull money from them do it. I hope the US government pulls their funding (why are we funding football anyway, we should be funding the people who need it) I pray the stadiums are empty, especially on vertarins day, in protest to these people who dishonor our flag and our men and women who died for that flag.

by the way, You just proves something. Your defending a right to protest by attacking people who are protesting them.

Thats sad dude.

You have a constitutional right to counter protest.
And I'm not attacking anyone. Now you're just imagining things

When we're putting people in jail for smoking a plant then that kind of resembles a police state. The War on Drugs has the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the American people. America has the biggest prison population of any country in the world. Private owned prisons are a huge cash making machine meanwhile it cost taxpayers billions. And as I have already stated, police officers are rarely ever prosecuted when they break the law.

You're throwing out straw man arguments because I'm not anti-government at all. I just feel like government has too much reach into our personal lives. Who do you think is bringing in the drugs in the first place? That would be the CIA. How many people die every year from alcohol related issues? Millions Maybe? How many die from smoking a plant? That would be 0. It's all about money at the expense of taxpayers.

I agree with that. It's the battle flag of a defunct nation, completely politically controlled by democrats.

I'm Centrist. We get a bad reputation as being cowards and sitting on the fence when nothing could be farther from the truth. As a Centrist I see past the irrelevant emotional rhetoric on both sides and make decisions based on logic and reason. I can be liberal in some areas and conservative in other areas. It all depends on the issue at hand

Actually have awoken the hard working Americans who spent years watching their freedoms taken away, and their hard earned money given to people who do not work for it, and mock the ones who give it. Thats why trump Got in to begin with.

Injustices, inequality and police brutality against minorities, specifically black people.
It's pretty clear. I'm from Australia and I know what they are protesting.
It's not rocket science.
