So do you think I idolize the flag? Is that it? What about your cross that you keep on your wall or wear around your neck?
I don't have any cross on my wall nor do I wear any type of jewelry. So please don't be saying "you" when trying for a point. Assumption.

turn about is fair play...is it not? You assumed I or anyone who loves our country and what the flag stands for idolizes the flag.

I don't need to pledge allegiance to a flag to love the country, though. The words speak for themselves. The principles are underneath what the country stands for (the republic), not the actual flag itself. As we are on the subject, this nation hasn't been a nation "under God" for a very long time now. This is not the same country you or anyone else thinks this is.

Last time I checked we still had a constitution. Something that I think is worth fighting for. Don't you?
And every day more and more of that constitution gets destroyed, and more of our constitutional rights taken away. America is becoming a policed slave state, or have you not noticed that?

So what then.....roll over and die? What do you think it is? Is God incapable of corrective action thru his people?

God allowed the elections of Obama, Bush, and multiple others.. He will allow the election of Clinton or Trump (some proclaim Trump the American messiah whereas others deem him as ruthless politically as Hillary). So God is allowing America to make its own bed and lie in it because we have screwed it up for years and years. I associate myself first and foremost with Christ. Not a flag.

So did Peter. Then he promptly denied him three times. Are you greater than Peter?

If that's what you want to interpret from my previous comment. By your definition of that all Christians that pledge allegiance to Christ think they are better than Peter.

No. But what I am saying is.... it is a vow that you don't know for sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can keep because you don't know what the future holds for you. So by your very definition you are committing a sin. Not mine, yours.

Besides...allegiance is loyalty....and a vow is a solemn promise. Quite a large chasm of difference imo.

So the question becomes and as some have tried to make it here.....is pledging allegiance to the flag and what it stands for a solemn promise and as such is it idolatry....or is it simply stating that you are loyal to the essence of what it means and stands for and for what it has given you? Some have chosen to bring in the vow thing...and the idolatry thing....which is exactly what I expected would happen. I am sure that many have vowed with all their heart to follow Jesus...but so did Peter...and he failed....what makes you think when you are given a pee down your leg opportunity you won't do the same? Lol

For me, when I pledge allegiance to the flag, I am showing respect for what others have died for to give to me. I often ponder the guys in valley forge with inadequate clothes and shoes, their feet and hands black from frostbite. When you have something to fight for besides yourself, it changes everything and I would gladly give my life to give my son and his children the opportunities that you and I have had in this great nation....and I pledge my allegiance to that.

The flag symbolizes a country and its Constitution etc etc. People should take a lot of pride in their country's flag.

Why pledge allegiance to the flag? That just means we pledge allegiance to what the flag means. America is not the great country she used to be. So pledging allegiance to a flag is stupid, just look at the ones who pledge their allegiance to the rainbow gay pride flag. They know full well what that flag stands for. Do WE REALLY know what the American flag stands for? just saying...
Exactly! It does not stand for what it used to stand for......especially good values and freedom.....today you are in effect pledging to a socialistic nation with a mask of democracy but no true representation by the people.....to pledge today means nothing as the country has been severely altered from freedom to police state....

Why are you bashing a country which is not your own country? What do you know about that country apart from what you know from the media and the internet???

I joined the Navy pretty soon after hs but that was 1970 and it wasn't like I was patriotic, it was more like I had a birthdate that practically guaranteed my getting drafted and sent to vietnam. My tactic didn't work tho. 5 years later the US pulled out of VN and turned our backs on the whole thing and forgot about it. Didn't even report about the khmer Rouge till about 5 years after it happened. Now we've been fighting a bunch of guys in toyotas for the past 14 years and every time we gain ground we give it back and then fight for it again so we can give it back. It's like hamburger hill over and over and over again. I mean, I hate war and so does everybody else, but good grief, what are we doing? It's not like I don't have allegiance to the US and love many things about her, but I can't, in good conscience, advise a young person to join up and be in harm's way for such fickle leaders bending to whatever wind blows the wheat. So I don't know, I still love our country and will pledge my allegiance to her without the intent of idolatry. However, the further these leaders stray from a Judeo/Christian moral and ethical foundation coupled with above, the harder it's becoming.

If God judges America ..He will start with godless liberals like Obama and Hillary who have perverted our nation and continue to try to destroy our Christian nation ...Trump will defend our nation and our founding principals based on the teachings of Christ Jesus.
