there never was a "united states" but america which has power to keep the peace when they act like one nation under God and more like a commonwealth country like Canada. america is still a commonwealth nation because the issues did not justify a war with England. Nor did they justify a rogue coalition of states. but they have acted in helpful ways at times to counter oppressive regimes and rogue ideologies that threatened the world.
Interesting insight. I am inclined to agree. America could have gained independence without resorting to violence. Who knows, maybe the civil war would not have happened.

The US will continue to be a superpower because it still has very advanced weapons and a large military. A lot of Russia's planes and ships suffer from age and lack of maintenance. The US does an excellent job of maintaining it's military and developing new technology. China's military is slightly behind in technology but they are great in number.

But the one thing that keeps the US a military superpower is its vast arsenal of ICBMs (nukes). Only Russia and China have comparable arsenals.

I read several years ago that the military was having a difficult time maintaining equipment because of a shortage of parts. They were stealing from equipment just to keep others operating.
I also read that most of the ICBMs were still equipped with computer systems that were 30 years old and many were concerned they could even be launched.
Do not know how accurate that is, but if true we have a real problem.

I don't think the number of nukes really matters. We can't go back and forth on nuking cities. There only needs to be nukes on two or three major U.S. cities before everything collapses.

DC, NYC, and maybe one of the big California cities. The panic, chaos, and loss of most of the federal government would fracture the country into blocs of states.

And some of those nations would be more free and sane than the USA is right now.

A military is only of use if it is used. Even a small nuclear exchange could send the world back to the stone age and this is common knowledge. Israel knows how to go about it, which is why they survive still. I'm not saying for the US to commit troops. There are other steps that can be taken that do not involve the regular army.

America's history of military interventions since WW2 is patchy to say the least. Apart from Grenada, what could be claimed as a success? I can understand why the US does not want to get involved. If the government stays on the sidelines, they will have to live with the consequences.

Russia's military may be lower quality than the US. But they do not have the political constraints of the USA. Russia can simply overwhelm an enemy with numbers. Casualties are of little importance. The forces on the border with Ukraine are as much as the whole of Ukraine's army. Personally, I would not have let Russia build up their military to such a level. Putin only understands and respects force. I suppose we will see son how this pans out.

Doesn't the Bible mention something about 1/3 of people on Earth will be killed ? Theres like 7.75 billion people here right now, one third of that is like 2.5 billion, that does not sound like a conventional war. That would blow the WWII numbers clean out of the water.

Yes, the great god of science has given mankind the ability to exterminate itself. It has not changed the nature of man to ensure that he will not self destruct.

We're a nation of super sinners in need of a Savior like every other nation.
In God's eyes all nations are as the grass in the field.

Psalm 90:5-6 (NASB) You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew. In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; Toward evening it fades and withers away.

Isaiah 40:15 (NASB) Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust.

Like Britain beforehand, the USA once was a strongly Christian nation. Queen Victoria famously said of the Bible that it was the Bible that made Britain great. I'm English by birth. Long ago, I gave up "Great Britain" to describe where I was born.

Many of the spiritual elites were raised up by God in Britain and the US. Britain is closer to a Muslim country than Christian these days. And the US has declined spiritually, morally, and in world wide influence. Yes, there never were any good old days. But homosexuals were not marrying and children did not get to choose their gender either. The rot set in during the 60's and it's been downhill since.

Yes, the Bible made Western Civilization great. Early science was rooted in a Scriptural worldview and a desire to understand God's nature better by understanding the world He created. How far we have sunk now that the Bible and God have been ripped out of all public life.

Meanwhile, someone told me just today that Russia is experiencing a Christian revival now. A rejection of the idolatrous traditional aspects of the Orthodox Church and a return to faith. To me, it's just another sign that the West's time has come, and perhaps places in the East and the third world which honor God will in turn be raised up by Him.

In my opinion it depends on what is the definition of a superpower. If the definition and assessment is based on military might, well yes, it obviously is a superpower. But if the definition and assessment is based on moral rectitude, then it definitely isn't a superpower, and neither can any other nation claim to be. They are all morally corrupt in some shape or form.

Obviously the only true superpower is God, let us put our hope and trust in Him and His ways, only. If a nation could do that, it could be classified as a superpower by association and in deed.

But that was never a criterion for being a superpower. Economic and military might are the two criteria. America was a superpower until traitor Obama decided to make it a third world hell-hole. Even his brother (half-brother) refused to support him. So now Biden is finishing with a vengeance what Obama began. Today China is the superpower of the world and Putin is a wannabe. That's why his invasion of Ukraine, while China plans to grab Taiwan shortly.

You may be right. The church in China has long put Western Christianity to shame. There are good signs in Iran and other Muslim nations also.

I have heard that China sends out more Christian missionaries than the USA now. The persecution by the state has actually grown the church there.

The church in Africa is growing as well.

The ease and luxury of the West has corrupted the church and distracted the hearts of the saints.

Strength of moral rectitude may not be the traditional definition of a superpower, but I'm confident it would be God's.

Anyway, that aside, the free world should be extremely grateful for the sacrifices the American people have made in lives and resources to secure and protect many nation's freedoms besides their own. Thank you, US.

Given the recent failures in Iraq and Iran, and the problematic governments left standing after the closures of those ventures, I can understand why the US is not keen to get involved in another war on foreign soil.

I just wish the US would become a superpower of moral might, wouldn't that be something! They would then have God's backing. Maybe we Australians could learn from you, because we are not doing well on the moral rectitude front, either.... not saying America is the cause of our own recalcitrance, but it hasn't helped with its exports of gratuitous immoral and violent products from Hollywood and suchlike into our society.

Of course it’s been a gradual decline since the Enlightenment (reason over revelation) but I would put the root of America’s woes in the ‘30‘s from the Scopes trial.
The ‘60s was the resultant fruit.

Chinese Christians had some relief prior to Xi taking over, but the screws were tightened again. In spite of this, Chinese Christians are going into North Korea, probably the most dangerous mission field ever.

Many Christians believe that the churches in Revelation are representative of the last days as well. The West sure looks like Laodicea.
