@Smoke If ever I want to hear this song, I look for this version with authentic war footage. Not because I like to see war being waged, but because decades ago such footage was extremely rare and almost never seen. The sheer number of planes in the sky and the number of bombs being dropped are mind boggling (there is no carnage or bloodshed shown). Of course today such images are all over the place (I am not interested in viewing current horrors). This footage is then juxtaposed against the relative peace safety and security many experience as a way of life as North Americans. It also causes me to pause and consider President Dwight D. Eisenhower's farewell address of 1961, when he cautioned his fellow countrymen about the military-industrial complex: "Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together." Though I do not see America as necessarily always having peaceful methods and goals, it is still a sobering reminder that many pawns are moved and lost in manoeuvres that cause many to abandon hope, joy, love, light, certitude, and peace in exchange for pain, confusion, alarm, struggle and flight.
