Memories

2. food-wise, what's your "guilty pleasure"?

Steamed Dim Sum... you put just about anything in a little Chinese dumpling and I will eat it.

I found Bpie so I guess it is better than I thought it was initially.

4. what's something you'd really like to learn? do you have any plans to learn it? when?

Hebrew. No plans to learn because I am terrible at learning foreign languages.

5. what kind of a driver are you?

Courteous. I grew up riding motorcycles and I learned to treat automobile drivers as if they were about to cause an accident because they usually were. (unintentionally of course) :)

1. Hard question! For common fruit raspberries. For a special fruit treat I get maybe once or twice a year, the pomegranate.

2. Hmm, I have had enough adrenaline run through my veins for a lifetime lol, I'm more into the relaxing activities nowadays lol.

3. Hard question, not sure if I have any sentimental possessions.

4. For friends: going fishing and shooting the bull as we always do lol.
For a hypothetical love interest: holding hands walking on the beach (or seeing as I am more inland, walking through a forest)

5. I had many good teachers but one that always stick out in my mind is my teacher Mr. Oerter. He taught 7th grade Geography/Social Studies. Very smart guy, very energetic and well tempered and also a Vietnam War vet. He is my favorite teacher not just because I achieved the highest grade I ever got in school (114%, the extra 14% from doing all the extra credit assignments he offered), but he was a good motivator and on a personal level gave me much great advice during a hard time in my life that has stuck with me unto this day.

1. What's your favorite fruit?
Answer - Cantaloupe, I seriously could eat that stuff all day long (perhaps that explains my continually yellowing skin!!!).

2. How do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?
Answer - I love them, that is why I enjoy the Singles Threads here on CC so much. Nothing gets my adrenaline going more than reading through the posts of you wild and zany people!!!

3. Describe a favorite sentimental possession?
Answer - That would be my teddy-bear Gizmo, which I mentioned in my first "5 Questions" post, in which I stated that I lost him, but SAINTS ALIVE I have since then found him again. I will post a photo later which was taken during our joy-filled reunion!!!

4. Describe a near perfect day!
Answer - Spending an hour talking with AzureAfire on Skype, and then both of us playing Battlefield 4 together on our PS3's and "taking out the enemy" side-by-side (she is quite the ruthless soldier when she wants to be!!!).

5. Your favorite teacher in School and why?
Answer - My favorite was my gym teacher, but only when he let us play dodge ball. When he made us do long-distance running or play volley-ball, then he became my mortal enemy!!!

1. what's your favorite fruit?

Granny Smith Apples

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

I used to love them. Rollercoasters,sex...er..wait,oh you mean like skydiving or base jumping? Hmmm..well I'd be open to them. I'm not afraid of heights at all,so yeah...bring it on. I might break a hip or something, but what the heck!

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.

Other than my photo albums of friends & family,I have a 103 page letter,a painting & a stuffed monkey given to me by someone near & dear to my heart. Those are the only sentimental thing's I really own anymore that if I lost I'd even be remotely sad about.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

As far as a near perfect day spent with a significant other...I've had that. I know people will roll their eyes at this, and I'm sure the OP wants specific details, but seriously...Just waking up & seeing that persons face, hearing their voice, just being with them in the same room even without speaking is near perfect to me,and if blessed to be able to do that every day for the rest of my life, then that's what I would call perfection. This holds true with friends as well. I've had so many near perfect times with friends. From days just writing songs & jamming to just hanging out being silly. I'm pretty simplistic,so it doesn't take much for me to find that near perfect day with those I enjoy being around.

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?

Mr. Rocci - He was my Social Studies teacher in 9th & 10th grade. He was awesome! I loved History, and it was prob my best subject consistently throughout school. He just made it so interesting, and he didn't get annoyed at me when I'd ask him outrageous questions about why American History is told this way,but really happened this way. He was sort of like an Italian Indiana Jones with his passion for History. He made it fun & interesting to say the least.

1. what's your favorite fruit?

Cantaloupe!

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

I love rollercoasters. I wouldn't do well with skydiving or bungee jumping.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.

An elaborately decorated dollhouse that I made with/for my kids. Don't need it anymore but can't bare to part with it.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

A morning drinking tea on a balcony overlooking the beach. An afternoon eating seafood, swimming in the gulf and laying in hammocks while the wind blows. An evening walking in the sand while the moon shines down on the water. This is just about perfect no matter who I'm with.

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?

I had a teacher in 5th grade who taught me about Martin Luther King Jr. She was black and older and had lived through many of the events we learned about. Her passion for equality and respect for the heroic efforts of MLK have stayed with me all these years. She was a wonderful teacher.

1. what's your favorite fruit?

watermelon, or tree-ripe peaches. i can't possibly choose.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

i'm an unabashed adrenaline junkie. i could probably fall asleep on a roller coaster. ; )

i'm also one of those people who needs to experience things. sometimes that's good, and sometimes, my curiosity tempts me in directions i am best not indulging. it's a gift/curse kind of thing.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.

my grandmother's silk scarves. they're super old (like from the 40s) and still have a faint linger of her chanel perfume because i store them in plastic.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

a roadtrip adventure: music, laughing, conversation, and exploration.

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?

mrs dinges, my high school english teacher. she was so fun, smart, and among so many things, inspired my love of words, writing and etymology. she also taught me to stop downplaying my smarts and not to feel like i should worry about making others feel better about themselves at my expense.

she was also a little weird, a little geeky and yet, uber cool. i remember thinking that i wanted to be like her when i grew up.

1. what's your favorite fruit?
Peaches... but not the ones from the store that taste like they were picked green. They have to be ripe.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?
I LOVE THEM!

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.
I have a few notebooks that I very much like. They aren't really journals... more like me writing whatever, whenever I feel like writing. Some poems, stories, etc.

Also I have a pair of scissors that I'm very attached to.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.
Playing laser tag or going to the aquarium, hiking in the mountains, boating... it depends on what the other person would enjoy.

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?
Haha, my Spanish teacher. :p

1. The mango

2. A bit of running and regular trips to the Bible Discussion forum are enough of an adrenaline rush for me.

3. I can't think of anything, really. Maybe my plush Hagrid. A friend gave it to me because we have some similarities. We're both tall and bearded, a little odd and love animals. Of course, he's fictitious and I'm real.

4. Maybe a walk through nature - mountains and forests, a place with many streams and rivers. Not warm weather but a nice bit of sunshine. A walk followed by a well-stocked picnic. I love boardgames too though and movies. So, it really would depend. I've never thought this one through.

5. Mr Schirmer in high school. He was my Ancient History and Christian Studies teacher for the early years. I enjoyed both of those subjects (more the former than the latter). He was firm but fair, intelligent, caring and rather humorous and at times silly.

1. what's your favorite fruit?
figs on a plate with cheese...
or oranges on a plate with cheese...
or papaya on a plate with cheese...
or....smoked gouda. That's my final answer.

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?
I would never ever jump out of a perfectly functional plane without good reason. I've got no problem with roller coasters, jet skiing, white water rafting, etc... just don't get me up in the air.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.
hmmm...I'd have to say various decorations and furniture in the home. The ex got the house in the divorce. I realized I liked not having a place with a formal living room or a "dining room" that no one ever dines in but once a year for a holiday meal. I realized that in my new place, I could actually put in color and everything didn't need to be boringly monochromatic.

The first item purchased was a large area rug that my middle kid found from an import store - blues and oranges among stripes of various earth tones. Then a good friend was with me when I bought a large mirror with a thick coppery frame.

When my aunt and I were on speaking terms, she gave me a surreal painting of a tree near the beach that her son did - he is a listed artist known in the San Diego area for impressionistic landscapes, so this isn't representative of his usual work. She gave it to me because of the blue/orange color scheme in the living room.
My other large painting is an abstract of some jazz musicians that my oldest picked out.

In my kitchen is a corner cabinet that I bought at thrift store. My youngest and I cleaned it up, took out the farmhouse curtains and painted it white with a vibrant blue trim. It goes great in my nautical kitchen. Yes. I have fishnets on the wall...and a plastic lobster.

All of these things are just that - things, but I am sentimental about them because each one comes with a story involving family and/or friends - even the lobster.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.
a date would be fun...something with a light meal, some wine maybe...a little dancing. My ear does not get bitten...

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?

My high school Spanish teacher, Ms. W. She was super strict. When something was due, she'd announce, "!pasenme los papeles, por favor!" and then she would make one circle around the room, collecting our papers. If we were still rummaging through our Trapper Keepers to find the homework assignment after she passed, it was late and we got half credit. She forced me to have some semblance of organization, for which I will always be grateful. She and my band teacher were my inspirations for going into teaching. Coincidentally, my first full year teaching assignment was at a school where her best friend taught french. Ms. W had passed away from cancer that summer, and I think her best friend enjoyed hearing some of my stories of her from the student side.

1. what's your favorite fruit? Strawberries

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities? I don't do a lot of them , but I would like to sky dive at least once in my life.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession. Maybe a painting hanging over my bed of a tree and the roots are all twisted to spell out my name. My brother did it for me for my birthday about 4 years ago.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other. Just being together, at home doing whatever we want. The closest thing to perfect to me though is sitting ( with whoever ) on the beach at night listening to the waves roll in and feeling the breeze... Perfect :)

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite? Mrs. Hogan , she was my parenting teacher in 9th grade. Home economics class was full so they put me in parenting class and it ended up being not only my favorite class , but the class I made the best grades in. I love children so learning all about how to take care of them was perfect for me.

1. what's your favorite fruit?

red seedless grapes

2. how do you feel about adrenaline-inducing activities?

All for adventure. White water rafting the Colorado River and skydiving are on my bucket list.

3. describe a favorite sentimental possession.

When I was 6 yrs old, my mom sewed an elephant for me for Christmas. It is funny, because over the years his felt eyes faded, so in essence he went blind like I did lol. I still have it 32 years later.

4. describe what you'd consider a "near perfect day" spent with someone else, such as a friend or significant other.

lunch at a quaint hole in the wall restaurant, long drive, visiting oddball attractions, dinner on the water somewhere

5. in school, who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach? why were they your favorite?

Mr. Frazier. He taught high school agriculture. He showed me that I could be more than anyone expected.

1. Apples, but I can't eat them unless they're cooked. Because they try to kill me. So I guess I'll go with cherries.

2. I'm not a fan of heights or high speeds. Things like white water rafting or...you know, running for my life from serial killers or whatever...that's good fun.

3. I have a lot of sentimental possessions...one of my favorites is a blanket my great-grandma crocheted for me. It's kind of hideous and awesome all at once.

4. A near perfect day would involve...wait, this has to be WITH someone? Dang. Hmm... Maybe going out for coffee early in the morning, wandering through a museum or art gallery, more coffee, lots of sunshine, going to a concert, more coffee...huh, I think I'd still rather do all that alone. I fail at this question. Next!

5. Mrs. Duncan, Humanities. The class itself was fun for me because it was a jumble of art, literature, writing, philosophy, psychology, and history. But she was my favorite teacher because she cared about her students as individuals and didn't believe in "wrong" answers- if someone answered a question in a way other than what the text book said, she would encourage the whole class to take part in a discussion about how the "wrong" answer could be right, or decide if there was no truth in it at all. She let us vote on projects we wanted to do or skip, and choose our own consequences for being late or not turning things in on time. And she never put anyone in the spotlight in a negative way- if anyone was causing problems (which rarely happened in her classes), she spoke to them privately. It happened to me once over missing a lot of school days, and she wasn't condescending or angry or cold, just genuinely worried and wanted to know if she could do anything to help me want to be at school, even if it meant helping me with other classes or letting me use her class to catch up on other homework. She was just, you know, awesome.

Are you more likely to suffer from a lack of energy or too much energy? A lack of....I'm on the go a lot so when I stop going I melt down ..lol

are you more likely to startle (scare) someone, or be the one startled? Startle someone else mwahahaha

how do you plan to spend your "retirement"? I have no retirement plans. I know it's smart to have one ...but I'm just trying to get through this weekend.

are you easily embarrassed, and what happens when you are? I'm am easily embarrassed ....my face just gets red... The stuff that embarrass me is stuff some people have no issues with

do you attend church? if so, tell us about your church and what you like about it . I do attend church faithfully. We have a close knit family atmosphere. The word of God is taught by the pastor and Sunday school teachers... we still use the old red back hymnals... we are old fashioned Baptist. It's not for everyone but it's where God wants me to be...If not he would lead me elsewhere. :)

are you more likely to suffer from a lack of energy or too much energy?

Probably too much energy, especially when with other people. Sometimes it's hard for me to relax when people are around. But I definitely have my lazy days.

are you more likely to startle (scare) someone, or be the one startled?

I startle so easily, it's not even funny!

how do you plan to spend your "retirement"?

It's a long way off, but I'd love to travel. See the world. Spend lots of time on the beach. But as Christians we aren't ever really "retired", so I'll still be serving the Lord and growing his kingdom, I hope.

are you easily embarrassed, and what happens when you are?

It depends on who I am with. But yeah... my face flushes and I start babbling like a lunatic.

do you attend church? if so, tell us about your church and what you like about it.

Yep, small church of about 65 or so now. My church has a reputation for being very welcoming and loving, and it's true. We have a pastor who is humble and gracious to lead our flock. My church has supported and loved me through some crazy stuff, and continues to do so in a way that definitely reminds me of the early church.

1. If I start focusing on my energy level, I find it makes me more tired. I tend to have just enough energy. Barely. Except late at night, when I should be sleeping. I sometimes have way too much restless energy and stay up for hours and am wiped out the next day. It's fun.

2. I'm always the one being startled. People get a kick out of it, so then they do things like sneak up on me while I'm listening to music and cleaning, shove a pineapple an inch from my face, and burst into the Sponge Bob song. People are cruel.

3. I have zero plans for retirement, unless you count finally having time to join a Jamaican bobsled team...or maybe just like, grow some flowers and travel to places I've never been. I can't decide if I'm going to be awesome or exhausted at that point in my life.

4. I'm super easily embarrassed. I blush and say insanely stupid things. It's a great party trick.

5. I don't currently go to church, but there is one I'd like to attend. I like the pastor, and I've been to services there in the past. It's a really relaxed, pleasant atmosphere, and there's a lot of people my age and even in my situation that it would be nice to get to know. The down side is that my ex's parents go there...which isn't that big a deal, it's just kind of awkward.

I stay pretty balanced, but caffeine is my friend.

are you more likely to startle (scare) someone, or be the one startled

weirdly enough, for a tall person, I have an innate ability to sneak up on people and scare the bajeebers out of them without even trying.

how do you plan to spend your "retirement"?

I plan to work in public service until the Lord calls me home.

are you easily embarrassed, and what happens when you are?

not easily embarrassed, but when I am my ears turn red.

Yes, I attend a great church. I love the outreach ministry of the church. Our pastor is a great communicator, and we have a strong youth ministry. Our church actually has a race team; our pastor drives a Super-modified race car as a witnessing tool. The people are warm, and they are there in any capacity you want them in your life.
