If you make a generalization about an entire group of people, you are saying those things about every single member of that group. If you say that men are creeps, you are calling your dad a creep. As well as your uncles and brothers, if you have any. And the guy whom you respect the most, the guy who's stood up for you more than any other person ever has, the guy who always had your back and didn't think twice about it... apparently he's a creep now.

If you say that women are unfaithful, you are saying it about your mother and your grandmother. You are saying it about the most faithful, ladylike person you've ever met. You are saying it about every single lady on this forum. Please, think about them before you lump people into categories in which they do not all belong.

Besides, what good does it do? Sure, sometimes things need to be pointed out. But when was the last time a guy saw an "All guys are crude!" rant and decided... "You know what, I should stop being so crude." Has a greedy girl ever seen a tirade about how all girls are greedy and realized that it's time to stop being greedy? So if it isn't doing any good, why say it? There's a point where you're just cursing the darkness. And it makes the people who aren't crude or greedy feel bad that they can't do anything about the ones who are.

All posts by PopClick are filled with generalizations!

Oh...Hey,wait a second....pretty sneaky. You caught me! :p

Srsly though....you make a great point Pop. I totes agree. It's really limiting God as well when we generalize & I don't think Jesus would ever do such a thing with us.

Generalizing is dangerous to us in general because we do constantly bicker with others or ourselves when we do not turn our stiff necks to read The Word of God which contains the answers to all of our generalized communication.

Its as easy as: Love The Lord with all your heart, mind, and might. If you did your heart would seek the love of loving your neighbors and therefore have the peace and patience to communicate. Your mind would have the understanding to take into consideration the age and experience of every individual you meet and treat them as unique as God made them. And your actions would show the might of God working in your life no matter what you did, taking into consideration His commandments His Power, His Love, His mercy and seek the perfection which we are meant to seek.

All these people that generalize a group just cuz'of there beliefs, the're all evil people, I hate them, there ain't a good person among them.
That's why we should never generalize.

Nope. Racists are people who hate others because of their race. Racists can be of any race. And you aren't hating any one race. You're hating people, regardless of race, who hate other races.
And it's not a false generalization to say racists hate other races. A false generalization about racists would be 'all racists are white'. So, in reality, you are talking about apples and oranges. Blacks and whites? Coke and Pepsi? Left Twix and Right Twix? Hmm...

There I said it. Yes, I made sweeping generalizations about people based upon which way they butter their toast. If you butter it butter side down, or heaven forbid, you don't eat toast, well then you'll rue the day!

I agree. Generalizations are dangerous. Even saying, "Everyone on CC is nice." is a dangerous generalization (though I'm not saying everyone on CC is mean, either. ;)).

We just need to use the common sense the good Lord gave us and judge each individual as that. An individual. Not as a generalization or stereotype. Things get pretty complicated when you throw those in.

Totally true. I have noticed some generalizations could be harmful to the very people who say them. For example:

Mary has issues, and she says "men are cheaters" so often that she doesn't think of them any other way. Mary is heterosexual, and doesn't want to be alone forever, so she wants a boyfriend. Does Mary look for a gentleman who is faithful? Of course not. There aren't any, right? So Mary settles for a cheater who hurts her continually. Her generalization didn't hurt cheating men, it didn't hurt faithful men, it only hurt herself.

I bet all the guys on CC are named Jim. :p (At least...it sure does seem like it. haha)
I represent that remark! lol Yanno actually in the past 5 yrs or so the more people I meet the more they tend to call me James, rather than Jim,even though I tell them my name is Jim...even though technically on my birth certificate it's listed as James. Yanno what? I don't care what you call me as long as you have cannolis!
