you too dear joise...... Who's fully devoted to watching the world cup?
Hello Youngy,
I used to be a football fan, in fact football almost became an addiction/idol to me. I would stay away from church or while there pray church should end fast so I go watch a match ... I knew several football clubs in Europe that I watched and supported, also had favourite football players that I were their fan. The most painful part of it was when my team got beaten, I spent days griefing. So I told God this was not good for a healthy Christian life. I started praying & little by little, I got freeeeeeed from that..., same for soap operas. Now I can choose to watch a match or not, I can choose to watch a film or not. Nothing really controls my time schedules & my walk with the Lord.
I told God, You made me free in Jesus, not for me to become slave of football or movies or TV etc (1Corinthians 7:23). I may choose to watch a programme or not! Trying to apply same principle in all other aspects of life. I may decide to come on here as I may choose not to. I may decide to put makeup, as I may not, same for jeweries etc. I shouldn't be under compulsure to do this or that except it is in line with Gods plan & will for me. I flee from anything that may want to occupy my time more than God, anything that would want to take God's place in my life.
I am trying to train my kids that way too (Proverbs 22:6). Nothing really matters, God our maker should be the centre of all we do as His children (1Corinthians 6:20). Anything wanting to take our time, attention and devotion more than it should take, is an idol.
Matthew 10:37-39 New King James Version (NKJV)
37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
